    Initially excellent, now poor management

I placed my mom here and was initially very happy - a beautifully decorated, spotless home with no smell, sunny yard/deck, craft activities, and meals cooked from scratch by an on-site cook. Loving caregivers (Vickie stood out) made it peaceful and gave us priceless peace of mind during our years here. Lately ownership changes and an unresponsive manager have led to high staff turnover, overworked/inconsistent aides, processed meals, and a drop in care quality. I loved the place at first, but I cannot recommend it now until management and staffing stabilize.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment about Blossom Hill #1 is mixed, with a substantial number of strongly positive comments about the physical environment, some aspects of care, and certain staff members, but also multiple concerning reports about staffing consistency, management/ownership responsiveness, and variable care quality. Several reviewers praise the home as beautiful, very clean, and nicely decorated with no offensive smells, and they report a peaceful and happy atmosphere. Other commonly noted positives include cooked-from-scratch meals made by an on-site cook, attentive nighttime staff, outdoor areas (yard and deck), and on-site activities such as craft projects. Multiple reviewers explicitly recommend the facility and cite loving, committed caregivers and an owner who is engaged and knowledgeable.

Care quality is one of the most polarized themes. On the positive side, reviewers describe loving care, knowledgeable and caring caregivers, great food, and long-term, satisfactory placements (one reviewer indicated a 5.5-year stay). Night coverage and attentive staff are highlighted by some as providing “priceless peace of mind.” Conversely, other reviewers report a sharp decline in care quality, describing processed meals, poor care, and in at least one case an explicit recommendation against the facility. The divergence suggests that resident experience may depend heavily on timing, specific caregivers on duty, or recent administrative changes.

Staffing and training are central points of concern. Several reviews praise specific staff members (Vickie is named positively) and describe staff as warm and loving. However, multiple summaries also point to inconsistent staffing, a revolving door of employees, overworked aides, and lack of training. These negative staffing reports are tied directly to declines in care quality and to reviewers’ dissatisfaction following staff turnover. The presence of both committed long-term caregivers and rapid turnover indicates uneven staffing stability: when experienced staff are present care is rated highly, but when turnover is high care quality suffers.

Management and ownership receive mixed evaluations and appear to be a key factor in the polarized experiences. Some reviewers call the owner committed, positive, and engaging; others report an ownership change, an unresponsive owner, or that the owner was not present at arrival. Several negative comments tie back to an ownership change followed by reduced responsiveness and worsening quality, suggesting that recent management transitions may have had a measurable effect. A waiting list or requests for placement were mentioned, indicating demand, yet cost concerns were also raised (budget too high), so affordability and perceived value are additional considerations for prospective families.

Facilities and lifestyle elements are consistently praised: the home is described as beautiful, clean, and nicely decorated, with outdoor space and creative activities available. These elements contribute to the frequently mentioned “peaceful and happy environment” and are likely major drivers of the strong positive recommendations. Dining receives both praise (scratch-cooked meals from an on-site cook, “great food”) and criticism (processed meals reported by others), reinforcing the pattern of variability across time or staff.

What emerges from these reviews is a pattern of high potential—Blossom Hill #1 offers an attractive environment, meaningful activities, and has had periods of excellent, attentive care—counterbalanced by real and recurring concerns about staffing stability, management consistency, and variability in meal and care quality. For a prospective resident or family member: consider an in-person tour focused on current staffing (ask about turnover rates and typical staffing ratios), request to sample a recent meal, meet the owner/manager and key caregivers, ask for references from current long-term families, and inquire specifically about training and night coverage. Those who prioritize a homelike, well-decorated setting with the potential for very caring staff may find Blossom Hill very suitable, but families sensitive to staffing consistency, management responsiveness, or cost should investigate recent trends and talk to current residents or families before committing.

    About Blossom Hill #1

Blossom Hill #1 sits out in South Lyon, MI, and it's an Adult Small Group Home that can have up to six seniors living together in a peaceful, quiet setting. The home covers several acres, with woods, a pond filled with fish and turtles, and visits from deer and birds, which gives folks plenty to look at, and you might see rabbits, ducks, or even geese wandering by. The place is set up for both men and women, and the inside got remodeled in 2015 with hardwood floors and granite countertops, making it feel more like a comfortable home than a big facility. People can choose from private or semi-private rooms, and every room's got wheelchair accessibility, showers, and tubs for easy use.

Staff are around 24 hours a day, with a nurse and doctor on call whenever needed, and they can help with things like checking blood sugar, helping people who can't get around well, and giving insulin, but the resident has to be able to manage some of their own care, like incontinence and diabetes. Memory care is a big part here, with a secured section specially built for folks who are living with Alzheimer's or dementia, and there are bracelets for safety that ring an alarm if someone leaves the area, just to make sure everyone stays safe and sound. Devotional services, onsite beauty and barber help, and therapy services, like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, are available if needed. They also bring in a podiatrist and dentist, helping with different kinds of healthcare, and there's hospice care or respite stays as an option for families needing a break or short-term care.

Residents get meals every day and can spend time in indoor or outdoor areas, and there are both onsite and offsite activities to keep life interesting and give people a chance to do things together. You might see a resident's dog or cat because they do allow pets in the home, which can make life a little friendlier for animal lovers. Smoking's not allowed inside. Blossom Hill #1 doesn't usually take Medicare, unless it's certified, but does tend to cost less than a full nursing home, which can matter to families looking at options. The place is licensed by the state and gets checked by agencies like the Department of Aging or Veteran's Services to make sure it meets safety and care standards, and it runs under license AS630398556 through 56565 Senior Care Solutions LLC. It's a small, personal community built for people who want another choice besides a big institution, focusing on comfort, safety, and support as people age or face health challenges like Alzheimer's. There are details to explore about the floor plans and payment options to help families figure out if it fits their needs.
