    Warm staff, serious safety concerns

I appreciated the warm, homey feel, home-cooked meals, activities and several genuinely caring, attentive staff during my tour. However I also experienced serious safety and care issues - medication errors and mismanaged pills, missed meals, unsupervised care, injuries/bedsores, environmental neglect (dark rooms, missing blankets, unanswered doors, broken glasses), restricted visitation, unresponsiveness and abuse allegations that led to hospitalizations. Because of those safety concerns I cannot recommend this community for my sister despite the kind staff and good food.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from the reviews is mixed and somewhat polarized: many reviewers praise the interpersonal and day-to-day aspects of the community while a smaller but very serious subset reports significant safety and care concerns. Positive comments are consistent around staff demeanor, individualized attention, and the community atmosphere. Multiple reviewers describe staff as kind, cordial, helpful, and genuinely caring; several note an excellent staff-to-resident ratio and attentive caregivers who provide personalized, home-like care. The community is described as pleasant-smelling with home-cooked meals, varied food options, and frequent activities and outings that contribute to a real "home" feeling for many residents. Tours and first impressions were often favorable, and some families explicitly reported having no complaints about the community's operations or food service.

Contrasting sharply with these positives are repeated, serious allegations regarding resident safety and care quality. Reports include allegations of abuse, neglect, medication errors, and mismanagement of pills. Several summaries mention unsupervised care that led to injuries and hospitalizations, plus the development of bedsores — all of which suggest lapses in monitoring, care routines, or clinical oversight. There are also reports of missed meals and unresponsiveness from staff during critical moments. Environmental neglect is noted in specific instances (dark rooms, missing blankets, unanswered doors), and personal property damage (broken glasses) and intrusive loud music were cited as examples of poor attention to resident comfort and dignity.

A notable pattern is the coexistence of strong praise for staff on one hand and serious allegations of neglect or harm on the other. This suggests variability in care quality: some families experience consistently supportive, attentive staff and an engaging environment, while others encounter significant failures in supervision, medication administration, or basic care. The presence of both "excellent staff-to-resident ratio" comments and reports of unresponsiveness and unsupervised care points toward possible inconsistencies in staffing practices, training, supervision, or shift-to-shift performance rather than a uniform level of service across the facility.

Facility and amenity comments are generally positive but include specific negatives. Reviewers appreciated the home-like atmosphere, pleasant smells, and regular activities/outings. Food and meal quality are often described favorably. Conversely, a small number of reviewers flagged physical facility issues such as a very small men's bathroom and described environmental neglect in individual cases. Visitation restrictions were also raised, which can be a significant concern for families trying to monitor care or maintain contact. Several reviewers ultimately decided the community was "not the right fit" or explicitly did not recommend the facility, indicating that suitability may depend heavily on a resident's specific needs and a family's tolerance for variability in care.

In summary, the reviews portray a community that can offer warm, individualized, and home-like care with good food and active programming, supported by staff who are often praised for being attentive and compassionate. However, there are multiple serious and concrete allegations — including abuse, neglect, medication errors, unsupervised care, injuries, bedsores, missed meals, and hospitalizations — that raise red flags about safety and consistency. Families evaluating this community should weigh the positive reports of individualized attention and engaging programming against the frequency and severity of the negative incidents reported, and pursue targeted questions and documentation during tours: inquire about medication management protocols, supervision and staffing consistency, incident reporting and resolution, wound and skin care practices, visitation policies, and examples of how the facility addressed any past allegations or complaints.

The community's built for safety, especially for people with memory problems, with alarms on the doors, bracelets for wandering prevention, and a fully secured property to help keep folks from getting lost or wandering off, plus they've got staff on hand 24 hours a day to help with any need-reminders, supervision, or personal care like bathing, dressing, or medicine help, and a doctor remains on call along with registered nurses on staff. They work with people who have trouble getting around or need high levels of care, even those with diabetic or incontinence needs, and can use lifts for folks that can't stand on their own. The place can handle tough behaviors like confusion, wandering off, or acting out, including more severe cases where someone might get upset or try to leave.

Residents get meals every day with a focus on nutrition and quality, and there are indoor and outdoor spots to eat, socialize, or just watch the seasons go by. The home has gardens and kept-up grounds, so folks can get outside if they want, and smoking's allowed outside for those who still do. Activities happen every day, some on site, some trips out, including things for memory support, like games and exercises meant to help thinking or movement, and there are devotional services both in the building and out at local places for people who want to practice their faith. A sense of family and friendly staff's important here, with extra folks like podiatrists, dentists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists visiting if residents need more specialized care, all while trying to keep everyone as independent as possible. Many families say good things about Senior Home Choice 6, with most reviews checked by staff for honesty-right now they hold a 4.5-star rating from 11 reviews.

The community offers guided support for families, answering questions about care and explaining nearby places like StoryPoint Gahanna, Sage Park, or Chestnut Hill Senior Living if someone's comparing options, and all the help and advice comes free to families, since partner communities cover the cost if someone decides to move in. There's a local advisor who talks through what a family might need, and the team matches people to the best available options, taking calls from early in the morning to the evening. There's parking and transportation available-sometimes for a fee and sometimes included-so everyone's able to get to appointments or events. They serve English speakers and welcome all kinds of backgrounds. Prices aren't posted yet, but the focus is on safety, quality, and a homelike setting, trying to be flexible and offer help to a wide range of seniors, including those with more complex care needs.
