    Filthy facility, awful care, moved

I lived here and was horrified by the filthy room, constant bad smells, food trays left around, and poor, inattentive care - night nurses were especially awful and a vitamin change even caused me pain. I would not send a loved one here and wanted to leave. I moved to a different facility that's clean, organized, friendly, with nice grounds and activities, and I'm much happier.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed: many reviewers praise the facility for its cleanliness, attractive grounds, organized environment, friendly staff, and robust social offerings, while others report serious problems with resident care, room cleanliness, odors, and night-shift nursing. The pattern suggests that public areas and some staff functions are running well, but there are notable lapses in individualized care and consistency that have led to highly negative experiences for some residents and families.

Staff and care quality: Several summaries highlight warm, congenial staff and an organized atmosphere, indicating positive interactions with frontline employees in many cases. However, multiple reviews call out troubling care issues — descriptions range from "poor care/treatment" to "horrible care," with particular concern about night nurses. These comments point to inconsistency in the quality of care: while daytime staff may appear friendly and helpful, night-shift performance and certain aspects of clinical management (for example, an alleged vitamin change that caused pain) are cited as significant problems. The combination of positive interpersonal remarks and serious care complaints suggests variability in staff training, oversight, or staffing levels, particularly overnight.

Facilities and housekeeping: The facility is repeatedly described as clean overall and well-maintained, with park-like greenery and well-kept grounds. That said, some reviews directly contradict this impression, reporting filthy rooms, bad smells, and food trays left around. This indicates a split between common-area upkeep (grounds, salon/barber, organized spaces) and the condition of some private rooms or individualized housekeeping services. The presence of both "clean facility" and "filthy room" comments implies uneven housekeeping standards or inconsistent attention to residents' personal spaces.

Dining, activities, and amenities: Dining and activities are a clear strength for many reviewers. Food is described as delicious and nutritious, and there is a variety of activities including bingo and staff-assisted outings. Salon and barber services are available, and the facility's location is convenient. These elements suggest a lively, resident-focused social environment for those who experience the positive side of the facility's programming.

Management and patterns of concern: Several reviews communicate outcomes that are serious red flags for families — residents choosing to leave or being moved to other facilities, explicit statements of "would not send a loved one," and reports of lack of effort or attention from staff. The repetition of complaints about night nursing, medication/vitamin changes causing harm, and unattended food trays implies systemic issues rather than isolated incidents. While the facility appears to have strengths in amenities and daytime staffing, the negative reports raise questions about management oversight, communication, and processes for addressing clinical incidents and housekeeping lapses.

Conclusion: Fargo Health Care Center shows a polarized reputation. Its strengths include an attractive campus, organized common areas, a variety of activities, caring daytime staff, and well-regarded dining and amenities. However, serious and recurring complaints about room cleanliness, unpleasant odors, unattended food trays, inconsistent or poor clinical care (particularly at night), and medication-related issues are significant concerns. Prospective residents and families should weigh these contrasting reports carefully, tour the facility (including private rooms), ask specific questions about night staffing, medication management protocols, and housekeeping schedules, and seek recent references from current residents or families to better understand whether the positive or negative experiences are more representative of current operations.
