    Filthy Neglected Understaffed Nursing Home

I placed my mom here and I left - the facility is filthy (cockroaches, bad smells), badly maintained (broken/antiquated elevators, fire concerns) and chronically understaffed. Medication and wound care were frequently delayed, residents were sometimes left soiled for hours, and meals were awful; linens and supplies ran short. Management is chaotic and profit-driven, promises weren't kept, but there are a few truly caring nurses/therapists and some friendly CNAs. Overall, close to home and some kind staff couldn't make up for the neglect and poor running of the place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly negative with a few pockets of positive experiences. Many reviewers describe systemic problems with cleanliness, maintenance, staffing, and care quality, painting a picture of a facility that is chronically understaffed and poorly maintained. However, multiple reviews also call out individual caregivers, therapists, and front-desk staff who are compassionate, patient, and helpful. The result is a highly mixed but predominantly concerning evaluation: some residents and families feel cared for, while many others report neglect and serious safety and quality issues.

Care quality and medical management are core concerns. Numerous reviews describe delayed or missed medications, including delayed pain management, and delays in wound care. There are reports of residents being left in urine for prolonged periods, being left without adequate supervision after falls, and generally receiving minimal hands-on medical attention. Several reviewers linked poor care to understaffing and high use of temporary agency staff; one summary explicitly cites approximately 60% reliance on agency CNAs/nurses. Consequences described include weight loss, depression, and some families choosing to sign their relatives out of the facility.

Staffing and staff behavior are portrayed as inconsistent. Many reviewers identify caring, friendly CNAs, kind nurses, and helpful therapists and note that some mistakes are corrected quickly. Conversely, a large number of reviews describe unprofessional behavior, lack of teamwork, rudeness, and nonresponsiveness. High turnover, difficulty hiring competent permanent staff, and reliance on agency personnel are repeatedly cited as root causes of inconsistent care and communication breakdowns. Reports of staff picking through garbage, clothing theft, and some staff appearing inattentive contribute to perceptions of poor oversight and lax standards.

Facility condition and safety receive repeated negative mentions. Reviews report filthy rooms and common areas, bad odors, cockroaches, antiquated and unreliable elevators, and concerns about fire safety. Maintenance appears neglected across multiple descriptions — broken elevators, poor housekeeping, and dated furnishings are common remarks. While some reviews note that rooms can be personalized and that halls or dining areas may look sterile but acceptable, the balance of comments suggests that building upkeep and infection/sanitation control are significant problem areas.

Dining, laundry, and supplies are additional weak spots. Many reviewers describe poor food quality, inadequate portioning or not enough food, and a small, cramped dining area. Some families said they had to bring their own food due to dissatisfaction. There are also reports of shortages of towels, linens, and basic medical supplies, indicating supply-chain or budget/prioritization issues that affect resident comfort and basic care. Positive comments about accommodating allergies and allowing personal food are outweighed by frequent complaints about meals and nutrition.

Management, communication, and organizational culture come across as problematic. Reviewers use terms like chaotic, poorly run, and profit-driven to describe leadership. Multiple notes about broken promises, too many people involved in decision making, and lack of urgency when issues are raised indicate weaknesses in accountability and responsiveness. At least one comment indicated that mistakes are corrected quickly in some cases, suggesting that management does respond sometimes, but inconsistency is a major theme. Parking and logistical issues were also mentioned by several reviewers.

Patterns worth noting for prospective residents and families: the facility appears to deliver widely variable experiences that hinge heavily on which staff members are on shift and how promptly management addresses problems. Critical safety and care issues — missed medications, delayed wound care, poor hygiene, and staffing shortages — are recurring and frequent in these reviews and should be investigated further in person. Positive aspects, such as caring individual staff members, good physical therapy, a welcoming receptionist, and the ability to personalize rooms, are real but appear insufficient to offset systemic problems for many families.

In summary, the dominant themes are chronic understaffing and high agency staffing, inconsistent and sometimes neglectful care, significant maintenance and cleanliness failures, poor dining and supply management, and questionable leadership responsiveness. There are meaningful positives at the individual-staff level and some operational conveniences (laundry room, proximity to home, therapy services), but the volume and severity of negative reports suggest substantial, organization-level deficiencies that prospective residents and families should evaluate closely through visits, direct questioning about staffing ratios and turnover, inspection of living areas, and review of the facility's incident and compliance records.
