    Attentive caring memory care, pricey.

I chose this place because the staff were attentive, caring and clearly experienced in memory care - the facility is immaculate and my loved one had a large, homelike room. The food was really good (three meals plus snacks/ice cream), and daily activities - live music, games, cookie decorating, dog visits and outdoor time - kept residents engaged. Nurses visit daily, medication is managed, communication was prompt, and the small, family-like community felt safe and personalized. It's pricey and I saw occasional staff disorganization (lost items, billing issues) and a few reported safety/management concerns, so I recommend visiting and asking specific questions before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Anam Care, INC. is mixed but leans strongly positive for many families, while a minority of reviews raise serious safety and management concerns. The most consistent positives are related to dementia- and memory-specific care, the compassionate demeanor of direct care staff, the homelike communal environment, and clearly appreciated dining and activity programs. Multiple reviewers highlight that staff provide individualized, dignity-preserving care—frequent toileting, help with bathing and dressing, and attention to personal hygiene—resulting in a higher perceived quality of life for residents with memory needs. Cleanliness and sanitation are repeatedly praised, and the facility’s smaller size and family-like atmosphere are often described as comforting and beneficial for social engagement.

Staff and clinical care receive frequent commendation: attentive nurses, strong medication management, and staff who treat residents like family are recurring themes. Reviewers mention engaging daily programming such as live music, trivia, puzzles, cookie decorating, dog visits, and garden parties that contribute to social stimulation. Many families appreciated transparent, prompt communication and named owners/administrators (e.g., Bernie, Glen) as attentive and helpful. The existence of two buildings with different group sizes is repeatedly referenced: the smaller building is preferred by many for being quieter and less chaotic, while the larger building can sometimes be noisier. The facility’s focus on Alzheimer’s and memory care, separate memory care and independent living options, and community events (holidays, birthdays, family dinners) are cited as strengths that create a real sense of community.

Food and dining are noted as strengths; reviewers often describe meals as home-cooked, delicious, and plentiful, with snacks readily available. Outdoor areas, secure patios, and garden events are mentioned frequently as contributors to daily enjoyment, although there is some inconsistency in reports about fenced outdoor access (some reviewers explicitly praise fenced patios, while others say there is no fenced outdoor area). Many families said the facility brought peace and relief, especially after comparing Anam Care to other options—patients felt engaged and not isolated.

However, a notable minority of reviews raise serious and specific concerns that should not be overlooked. Multiple accounts describe staff disorganization, lost personal items (hearing aids, glasses), incorrect belongings being returned, and accounting or billing errors (including a lost check and disputed sums). More alarming are several allegations regarding resident safety and mistreatment: reports of resident-on-resident violence or being “beat up,” residents inexplicably locked out of areas or forced to stay awake, safety incidents, and claims of weight loss and rapid cognitive decline while in the facility. Some reviewers said they observed decline that improved after relocating their loved one elsewhere, and a few allege that management obstructed or discouraged moving a resident. These serious claims are less common than the positive reviews but are strongly worded and suggest episodic lapses in supervision, incident handling, and administrative responsiveness.

Management and administrative patterns are mixed in the feedback. Many reviewers praise ownership and staff coordination and call out individual staff by name for compassionate care and responsiveness. Others report rude or unhelpful administrative interactions, scheduling problems (appointments), move restrictions, and difficulty resolving financial or transfer disputes. Staffing consistency appears to be a factor: reviewers who report positive experiences emphasize stable, well-treated staff and strong teamwork, whereas accounts of lost items, disorganization, and safety incidents imply lapses in supervision or training at times.

Facilities and accommodations receive both praise and criticism. Positive comments include large, unfurnished rooms that families can personalize, bright and accessible bathrooms, clean communal spaces, and an overall homelike aesthetic. Critical comments note shared very small rooms for some residents, the absence of in-room bathrooms in certain units, limited storage for personal items, and variability between the two buildings in noise levels and programming. Cost is another consistent theme: several families noted Anam Care is pricey compared with other options, which compounds frustration when paired with administrative or safety concerns.

In summary, Anam Care, INC. appears to deliver a high level of specialized, compassionate dementia and memory care for many residents, with strong praise for direct care staff, cleanliness, meals, and social programming. The facility’s small-community, family-style model and attentive nursing are major strengths. At the same time, reviewers report episodic but significant problems including lost personal items, administrative/billing errors, allegations of safety incidents and mistreatment, and inconsistent management responsiveness. Prospective families should weigh the many positive accounts of personalized memory-care and community life against the minority but serious negative reports; when possible, ask specific questions about staffing ratios, incident reporting, item handling procedures, fencing/outdoor security, room layouts, and financial/accounting safeguards. Visiting both buildings, speaking to current families, and verifying how the facility handles transfers or grievances may help clarify whether Anam Care will be the right fit for a particular resident’s needs and safety expectations.
