    Impressive care, expensive, some issues

I placed my mom here and overall I'm impressed - it's a clean, modern, well-run campus with beautiful grounds, a bright community area (she loves the birdcage and watching the finches), and an active activities program that offers everything from swimming and boxing to seasonal events and trips out. Staff are generally excellent, attentive, and quick to respond via intercom; nursing support and levels of care (RN available 24/7, assisted and skilled options) are strong. Amenities are plentiful - restaurant-style dining, beauty/barber shop, library, wellness center, sewing and carpenter shops, transportation/driver, laundry and housekeeping - and the place feels safe and upbeat. Downsides: it's very expensive (private-pay/no Medicaid), big and a bit ritzy, rooms can be small, and staffing shortages/high turnover affect dining (limited menu, occasional delays/cold food) and some services. Not perfect for everyone, but for us the caring staff and abundance of activities made it a top choice despite the cost.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is broadly positive, with frequent praise for the quality of the physical campus, the breadth of on-site amenities, and the caring nature of much of the staff. Reviewers consistently note a clean, modern facility with bright communal spaces, well-kept grounds, and a range of conveniences such as beauty and barber services, a library, sewing and carpenter shops, a wellness center, and regular church services. Many reviewers highlighted an active, varied activities program that includes daily offerings, seasonal events, exercise classes, swimming, and even boxing, which supports an engaged, social lifestyle for residents.

Care quality and staffing receive mixed-but-leaning-positive evaluations. Several reviews emphasize attentive, compassionate staff, quick assistance via intercom, and 24/7 RN availability—reassuring features for families concerned about medical oversight and emergency response. Clean nursing units and a favorable staff-to-resident ratio were also noted. However, there are recurring concerns about staffing stability: some reviewers reported high staff turnover and isolated reports of rude nurses. A few accounts describe short-staffing that affects dining and other service delivery, indicating variability in day-to-day operational consistency.

Dining and food services are frequently mentioned as strengths and occasional weaknesses. Many reviewers praise the restaurant-style dining, three meals daily, and generally good food with many choices. At the same time, others reported problems such as limited menu variety (sometimes only one menu option), food served not as warm as expected, and delays tied to short-staffing in the dining room. These comments suggest that while the dining program is substantial and restaurant-like, execution can vary depending on staffing and service conditions.

The continuum of care and housing options is a clear advantage for residents and families seeking long-term security. Multiple levels of care beyond independent living, Life Lease options, customizable apartments, and extensive housing choices led some families to describe the community as a “set for life” option. Services such as included transportation with a driver for appointments and hospital trips, regular housekeeping and laundry, security, and unlimited guest access enhance the sense of convenience and safety. Reviewers also pointed to the facility’s long-standing reputation and the perception that it is a well-run business with helpful tour staff.

Cost and payment policy are significant considerations and a consistent negative theme. Multiple reviewers called the community very expensive and emphasized that it is largely private-pay with little or no Medicaid acceptance. For prospective residents on tighter budgets, this is a notable deterrent. Other practical concerns raised include occasional maintenance issues (one report of ceiling damage with repairs promised), limited internet and cellular connectivity in parts of the campus, and relatively small apartment sizes mentioned by some. Several reviewers also said the facility felt too large or “ritzy” for their relative’s tastes, indicating fit and culture are important factors when evaluating the community.

In summary, Friends Fellowship Community appears to offer a comprehensive, amenity-rich living environment with strong medical oversight and an active lifestyle program. Its major strengths are cleanliness, an extensive array of on-site services, caring staff (with many stellar accounts), multiple levels of care, and transportation/housekeeping supports that make daily life convenient. The principal drawbacks are cost, occasional staffing and dining-service shortfalls, connectivity and maintenance issues, and that the community’s size or style may not suit every resident. Families considering this community should weigh the high cost against the breadth of services and the reported quality of care, and they should visit to assess fit, review current staffing levels, and confirm connectivity and dining expectations before deciding.

    About Friends Fellowship Community

Friends Fellowship Community sits on a big, open campus at 2030 Chester Blvd in Richmond, Indiana, and folks have known it since 1975 for offering several types of senior living options, so you'll find independent living, assisted living, memory care, and a Health Care Center all grouped in one place, which is pretty useful for people hoping to age in place and not have to move again and again. The grounds have walking paths, flowers, big trees, and a pond, so residents can stroll outside or find a peaceful spot to see the grass and watch the birds, which is nice for those who enjoy nature and fresh air. Around here, everything's designed to help seniors live healthy and active lives, with staff focused on making the days purposeful and safe, rather than rushing anybody or making them feel less at home.

Inside, residents pick from independent homes or apartments with easy access to meals, activities, and organized events, and the dining stays focused on health and variety, with kosher, vegetarian, and special diets like gluten-free or low sodium, plus both restaurant-style and private dining rooms, so folks can find food they like and gather with friends if they want. Everyone living here has access to amenities like exercise facilities, games, beauty shop services, devotional and social activities, and both indoor and outdoor areas to relax in, with a full-time activities director organizing stretching, Tai Chi, yoga, art, brain games, and even trips and intergenerational programs that try to keep the mind and body moving.

Friends Fellowship Community isn't just about having a nice place to live, though, because services are set up for folks who need extra help, too, whether that's with bathing, dressing, medication, or managing health conditions, thanks to a nurse on staff and a doctor on call, plus trained aides on duty all through the day and night. In memory care, there's a special section built just for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, and it's secured so residents don't wander away, with technology like bracelets to help with safety; staff also handle behavioral needs, including those who have trouble with aggression or confusion. For everyone, the environment's made to be friendly and supportive, with personalized care plans, and services like standby help or mechanical lifts for transfers when needed, which comes in handy for folks who might have trouble getting around on their own.

For fees, there's an entry buy-in around $33,000, respite care at $342, and memory care rates for a semi-private room near $8,250 per month. Transportation and parking are available, and you'll see both scheduled offsite excursions and support for medical appointments or errands, which is handy for people who want to keep routines active and feel independent. Folks here can attend regular activities, enjoy open spaces, and join in community efforts or educational programs, with groups like the "School Is Cool" program and plenty of committee and event options that keep the place lively. With more than 50 years of experience, Friends Fellowship Community keeps adjusting its services to fit what seniors need, focusing on keeping everyone comfortable, respected, and engaged, no matter what level of care they're looking for.
