    Comfortable clean caring memory-care community

I live here and feel at ease - the bright, clean, home-like rooms, caring and responsive staff, excellent food, and lots of activities give me real peace of mind and exceptional value. It's a small, well-laid-out memory-care community with great common spaces and services; I've heard a few conflicting reports, so I still recommend visiting in person, but overall I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is largely positive, with numerous reviewers emphasizing a strong culture of caring and family-like relationships between staff and residents. Many comments highlight that caregivers engage residents, provide extra assistance with day-to-day tasks, and go above and beyond to include families in events. Management and support staff are repeatedly described as skilled, honest, and professional, which contributes to many families feeling a strong sense of peace of mind and viewing the community as a first choice or excellent value.

Facility and accommodations are frequently praised. Reviewers note clean, tidy, and well-laid-out spaces with a home-like touch. Specific physical amenities that receive consistent positive mention include fully furnished rooms and a range of apartment options (efficiencies, one- and two-bedroom units), bright rooms with large windows, a central TV/lounge area (including a TV room with a fireplace), a kitchen, on-site laundry, transportation services, a courtyard with flower areas, and a library. Several reviewers also comment that the community is newly updated, cozy, welcoming, and attractive, reinforcing an overall impression of a well-maintained environment.

Dining and activities are other strong themes. Many reviews highlight good to impressive dining, describing meals as delicious. The community appears active, with frequent daily activities, social opportunities such as chess and snooker, and celebrations for special occasions. Family-inclusive events and opportunities for engagement are specifically noted, contributing to residents being described as happy, calm, and well cared for.

Care quality and staff performance are predominant positive signals: phrases like "high-quality care," "attentive," and "treat residents like family" recur. Strong communication and effective staff handling of care needs are cited by multiple reviewers, and some explicitly recommend the community. These strengths are often linked to feelings of exceptional value and peace of mind among families.

However, the reviews are not uniformly positive and reveal notable inconsistencies. Several reviews point to busy staff or limited staff interaction, which suggests variable levels of one-on-one attention depending on timing or staffing. There are also mixed comments about pricing—some reviewers note higher rates while others refer to the facility as offering the cheapest price or exceptional value, indicating that perceptions of cost may vary by unit type or expectations. Most importantly, at least one review includes a serious allegation of neglect involving dehydration and malnourishment and states the reviewer would not recommend the community. This contrasts sharply with numerous positive accounts and indicates potential variability in care quality or at least an isolated serious incident.

In summary, Senior Suites of Urbandale is frequently praised for its compassionate staff, family-like atmosphere, clean and updated facilities, robust activities program, and strong dining. These strengths create a sense of value and reassurance for many families. Prospective residents and families should also be aware of mixed feedback regarding staffing levels, occasional perceptions of higher cost, and at least one serious negative report. Those considering the community would benefit from direct questions about staffing ratios, recent care incidents, and a tour to observe staff-resident interactions and dining firsthand to confirm consistency with the many positive reviews.
