Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community started back in January 1945 as the Buhler Sunshine Home and has grown a good bit over the years, adding new nursing wings in 1954, 1960, 1977, and expanding to include the Sunshine Villa independent living apartments in 1985. There's a long history here of serving seniors with a Christian environment where dignity, respect, and purpose are important, and the mission is all about making a home surrounded by Christ's love. Today, Sunshine Meadows offers a range of care types - independent living, assisted living, nursing care, and memory care for those with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, all tailored to a person's stage of retirement. There are independent living options like the Sunshine Villa's 11 income-based, one-bedroom apartments, as well as duplexes and congregate apartments attached to the main campus, most with attached garages, some with washers and dryers, and those duplex units are pretty spacious too. Assisted living apartments are there for folks who want some help with daily activities but want to keep as much independence as they can, while the 28 assisted living apartments offer support in a social setting, and staff help with things like meals and bathing.
For those who need more support, the nursing wing completed in 1994 offers 60 intermediate health care beds, and the facility's Medicare certified for skilled services including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy under Part A and B, plus short-stay studio accommodations help those recovering from surgery or injury like a broken hip or pneumonia. The Memory Care Unit, added in the 2007 remodeling, sits within the nursing facility and provides specialized care for folks needing extra support with memory loss, using therapies and routines to help reduce confusion and wandering. The campus includes Wildflower Inn as well, along with a program called Behind the Smile and newsletters for residents, and the Resident Life program features Life Enrichment activities-from exercise, bingo, dominoes, Bible study, to baking and puzzles.
Residents and guests enjoy Sunny's Café, open weekdays from 7 am to 7 pm and Saturday till 2 pm, where meals are made with quality ingredients, and you'll often hear some say the food is both tasty and healthy; in fact, Sunshine Meadows has been recognized for Best Meals and Dining, as well as for being a top-rated senior living community and winning Best of Senior Living and All Star awards. Outdoors, folks use the gazebo, raised gardens, and a screened porch, finding plenty of spots to relax or visit with family, and there's Wi-Fi across the facility so it's easy to keep in touch. Pets are allowed and the place is handicap accessible. The staff keeps activities scheduled to help residents stay social, active, and involved, while home care aides help seniors living at home nearby with non-medical needs and companionship. Prospective residents can also set up a tour and meet staff or neighbors before deciding, and the Resident Application process is straightforward. The community stays verified and licensed, with status checks twice a year, and it became a Medicaid provider not long after 1977, so families have options when it comes to paying for care. The whole setup works to give seniors dignity, independence, and a sense of security, but doesn't try to push folks too hard or promise more than can be delivered, and there's always someone ready to help if something's needed.
