    Warm community, inconsistent staffing concerns

I live here and love the warm, friendly staff, beautiful clean rooms, restaurant-style dining, pool/gym/library and nonstop activities - it really feels social and homey. However staffing and management are inconsistent: I've experienced slow responses, missed or wrong meds (double-dosing has been reported), weekend therapy gaps, annoying over-communication, and high costs after ownership changes. Overall I value the community and amenities, but would advise anyone to confirm staffing levels, medication procedures and total cost before moving in.

    About Freedom Village

Freedom Village sits along the Black River, close to downtown Holland, Michigan, and just a few blocks from Lake Michigan, so folks who like to walk or head into town for shops or art galleries find it's in a handy spot. The campus provides several types of care, all in one place, so someone starts off living independently and, when more help's needed-things like assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia, or skilled nursing-it's a simple switch without having to leave the community. Freedom Village works in connection with Corewell Health, including the Corewell Health Geriatric and Special Care center right on the campus, which means access to more medical support if needed, especially for higher-level health issues.

The place has many amenities, like a two-story gymnasium with plenty of exercise equipment, a pool for swimming, an indoor walking track for those who want to keep moving without worrying about the weather, and a fitness trainer for help and advice. You'll find six dining rooms on the grounds, plus an American Bistro that serves sit-down meals from seven in the morning until eight at night, and there are even private dining rooms if residents want to host a group or family. Nutritious meals are part of the routine, and there's a focus on taste as much as good ingredients. Living options cover a wide span: folks have choices from independent living in roomy apartments to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and rehab, all under one roof, as part of a Life Plan Community, so moving from one type of support to another can happen as a person's health changes.

People living here get support with daily needs, like dressing or bathing, if they want it, plus transportation is available; a big bus is used for trips out of the area and smaller vans with wheelchair lifts help with local errands. The staff organizes activities throughout the week so there's always something social, physical, or creative to take part in, whether it's a wellness program, games, or arts, and there are lots of photos and videos in the online gallery for families wanting a peek at what life looks like. Freedom Village has a MoneyGauge calculator online to help see which apartments might fit a budget, which can make planning easier. When it comes to staying comfortable as needs change, Freedom Village lets folks stay somewhere familiar without feeling forced to leave for more care, with all kinds of support and many features that help people stay active and connected.
