    Friendly staff, pleasant community, improvements

I placed my mother here and she's happy. The staff are friendly, caring and genuinely make us feel like family - front desk always smiles, communication is excellent and they go above and beyond. The community is clean, comfortable and sunny with nice common rooms, a bird-watching area and daily activities (bingo, gatherings); I'd like more activities, paid outing options and better wireless. Rooms are mostly small one-room units in an older building; meals are good (three a day) but could use more variety-yogurt, fresh fruit/veg-and a bit more seasoning.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is positive, with strong and consistent praise for the staff, cleanliness, and the community atmosphere. Multiple reviewers emphasize that staff are friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring—front desk employees are noted as welcoming and smiling, and staff are described as going above and beyond, communicating well, and making residents and families feel like family. The caregiving environment is seen as attentive and comforting, and reviewers report that the community has a genuine concern for residents' well-being.

Facility- and community-level features are also generally well regarded. The physical spaces that residents use daily—sunny dining area, nice common rooms, an open auditorium, and a bird-watching area—are mentioned positively and contribute to a comfortable environment. The facility is repeatedly described as clean and orderly, and reviewers appreciate the smaller, more intimate community feel. Most accommodations are single-room units with a few apartments available, which suits some residents but also factors into other feedback about space.

Dining is a consistent positive with three meals served daily and multiple reviewers saying the food is good. However, there are specific suggestions about meal variety and seasoning: several reviewers asked for more yogurt, fresh fruit and vegetables, and noted that some dishes could use a little more salt to suit resident preferences. This indicates that while the baseline meal service is satisfactory, there is room to expand options and tailor flavors to resident tastes.

Activities and social engagement are present and appreciated—daily gatherings, bingo, and other regular activities are noted—but there is a recurring request for more varied programming and additional off-campus paid outings. Reviewers would like broader activity choices and options for excursions, which suggests current offerings meet basic needs but do not fully satisfy desires for diversity and more frequent or organized trips offsite.

Accommodations draw more mixed comments. While common areas are appealing, private rooms are often described as small and the building itself as older. The compact room sizes and the facility’s age are the main facility-related negatives cited. Another recurring operational desire is improved wireless connectivity, implying either limited Wi-Fi availability or that residents and families want better internet access throughout the community.

In summary, the reviews paint a picture of a caring, well-run smaller community with a strong staff culture, clean facilities, pleasant common spaces, and reliable meal service. The primary opportunities for improvement identified across reviewers are enhancing private living spaces or offering larger accommodations, increasing meal variety and seasoning options, expanding activity programming and paid outings, and improving wireless access. These areas, if addressed, would further strengthen an already positively regarded community where staff engagement and cleanliness are standout strengths.

    About Valley Home

Valley Home has cared for seniors since 1956 and sits right along Highway 32 at the south end of Thief River Falls, where Highway 32 and Arnold Avenue South meet, and you'll find the place has a long-standing staff that's known for being dedicated and friendly. The community's for people sixty-two and older, offering independent and assisted living options along with specialized memory care for those living with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia, so if a person needs help with dressing, bathing, or medications, they'll find the staff ready to assist while still respecting each resident's independence. There are maintenance-free, stylish homes-with ground floor units, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, cable or satellite TV-that give everyone a comfortable place to live, and the place has both shared and private dining areas where people often gather to enjoy meals like meatloaf, roast beef, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and the like, and you'll see broccoli with cheese or mashed potatoes on the tables from time to time. They offer restaurant-style meals in a dining room and transportation is there for doctor's appointments. Folks get around easily with parking available if they drive.

There's always something to do, whether it's Bible education classes, prayer services, exercise sessions, bingo, movie nights, dinners, or activities such as basketball and golf, and the community makes a point of running programs that help keep minds sharp and spirits high. There's a vibrant social scene, so nobody spends days alone unless they want to, and residents can drop by the beauty salon without leaving the building. Valley Home coordinates with local healthcare providers for quality care and has services for those who may need hospice provided on site, plus high acuity care, diabetic care, non-ambulatory support, and incontinence care. Staff will help with cooking and laundry, and medication management is part of what's on offer too.

The facility works alongside families to develop personalized care plans, adapting support as health needs change, and pays close attention to keeping everyone safe-offering 24-hour supervision and controlled environments for those who might wander due to memory issues. For those living at home, they've trained aides who provide non-medical care and companionship. The setting itself feels like a small neighborhood, and residents share activities and mealtimes together, making Valley Home a straightforward place for aging adults to live with comfort and dignity, surrounded by friends, familiar faces, and a good mix of independence and support.
