    Spacious clean accessible friendly community

I live here and would highly recommend it. The brand-new cottages and apartments are spacious, accessible, and exceptionally clean; the exercise room and activities (cards, music, worship, outings) keep me active and social. Staff and residents are warm and professional-maintenance is prompt, the director and Kim are very helpful, and door-to-door transportation is great. It's strictly independent living (no meals or assisted care on site) and the website/info can be confusing; the decor felt a bit stark at first but the community quickly warmed up. Overall I feel safe, made friends, and am very satisfied.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Avondale is strongly positive, with frequent praise for the newness, cleanliness, and spaciousness of the living units and cottages. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the property is brand-new, exceptionally clean, and well-designed for older adults, noting generous apartment sizes (including large two-bedroom cottages around 1000 sq ft), walk-in showers, and accessibility features suitable for wheelchair users. The grounds and common areas are described as well-maintained, secure, and located in a pleasant neighborhood, contributing to residents’ sense of safety and satisfaction.

Staff quality and care emerge as a consistent strength. Reviewers repeatedly call out staff as wonderful, extremely sweet, and professional — with special mentions for individuals (for example, a staff member named Kim) and for personable managers and activity directors. Maintenance response is noted as prompt, and management receives high marks for being caring and attentive. Several reviewers specifically highlight helpfulness with Medicaid information and income-based affordability guidance, indicating that the community can be supportive for residents on limited budgets. Drivers and transportation staff are described as friendly and providing door-to-door assistance, and there is regular bus service for shopping and outings.

Facilities and amenities are another strong point: a well-equipped exercise room, on-site laundry, and utilities coverage (TV/internet/phone paid) are mentioned positively. Activities are varied and active, ranging from cards, bridge Thursdays, bingo and group games to music groups, bible study, weekly devotionals, worship, hikes, dancing, concerts, and ice cream socials. Reviewers report a strong sense of community, with residents making friends and enjoying social events. Some organizational aspects — like a resident council — are noted as still developing, but overall engagement and activity offerings are robust.

Dining and meal services present a notable pattern of mixed expectations. Several reviewers explicitly state that meals are not provided and that residents cook their own meals; a few comments suggest meals were available or that residents prepare their own despite meals being offered. The dominant message, however, is that Avondale functions primarily as independent living without routine meal service, and some residents wished for more dining options or meal provision. This ties into an important theme: Avondale is independent living only. Multiple reviewers warned that there is no assisted living or on-site senior care services, and some described the community more like a 55+ apartment setting. Prospective residents who need higher care levels should be aware of this limiting factor.

Management and communication receive largely positive feedback for responsiveness and involvement, with several reviewers describing top-notch management who care about residents. At the same time, there are specific concerns about communication channels and marketing: reviewers reported an outdated or misleading website, staff being unaware of web content changes, and unreturned voice messages. These issues suggest room for improvement in external communications and clarity about included services. A few reviewers also described the interior ambiance as a bit stark, noting it could warm up with resident personalization — in other words, the decor and finishing may be functional and clean but less cozy or upscale compared to some competitors.

Value and affordability are highlighted across reviews: the community is described as income-based, affordable, and offering favorable cost compared to condos on a per-day basis. This, coupled with the new construction, generous unit sizes, and included utilities in some cases, makes Avondale attractive for budget-conscious seniors seeking independent living. The primary trade-offs appear to be the lack of assisted living services and limited dining provisions, plus occasional communication/marketing missteps and a less-luxurious ambiance for those seeking a very high-end aesthetic.

In summary, reviewers consistently praise Avondale for its clean, new, accessible, and spacious living spaces; caring and responsive staff; active and varied programming; and strong value proposition. The most important caveats are that it is strictly independent living (no assisted care), meal services are not reliably provided for all residents, and there are isolated concerns about communication and the community’s interior ambiance. For seniors seeking a safe, friendly, and affordable independent living community with robust activities and supportive staff, Avondale is highly recommended by multiple reviewers. For those needing assisted living, extensive on-site medical services, or upscale dining/finishing, Avondale may not meet those needs without supplemental arrangements.

    About Avondale

Avondale Senior Village, from National Church Residences, serves people aged 55 and older with many different options for senior living, so you've got choices between cottage-style or garden-style apartments where high ceilings and bright rooms make things more comfortable, and every unit has its own washer, dryer hookups, and a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave and dishwasher to help with easy cooking and cleaning, and you'll find private patios at each cottage where you can relax or watch your dog play, since the place is pet-friendly and even offers its own dog park. The community gives you a chance to get outside with walking trails and well-kept gardens, and inside you can pass time in the library, sit by the fireplace in the community room, or use the computer center to stay connected with friends and family. The staff tries to support independence but is always there if you need help, including assistance with things like bathing and daily activities, and 24-hour emergency maintenance keeps things running smooth, while building security makes sure everyone feels safe.

Healthcare services come in many forms here, since there's memory care for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, plus help from home health aides, hospice care, and primary care on site to meet different needs without having to travel far, and the place keeps everything handy for people who need handicap accessible apartments or help getting around. Social and educational activities happen through the Dublin Rec Center and the community room, where folks join exercise classes or special events, so you have easy ways to meet neighbors, plus there's regular programs from the calendar and chances to get involved with local parks or community events, which keeps life lively.

Nutritious meals show up every day and are made by skilled chefs, giving you a chance to eat well without fuss and maybe enjoy some company around the dining table, and if you need to get somewhere, there's free Dublin Bus transportation, which means you don't have to drive yourself everywhere or worry about making arrangements. Smoke-free living options help those with allergies or breathing problems, and all bathrooms are built to help seniors stay safe with grab bars and easy-access showers. Staff stays well trained and focused on personal needs, helping everyone feel comfortable and heard while keeping the place quiet, cozy, and easy to live in, so you'll find that Avondale works hard to balance care with independence.

The apartments are meant to be affordable and the grounds are kept tidy, with plenty of spaces to unwind, chat with a friend, or just enjoy some peace, so it's a place where seniors who want maintenance-free living and different support services can settle in and get the type of care or activity they want each day. National Church Residences has been in the business of serving seniors for years, and Avondale Senior Village provides a warm place to call home with staff members who offer consistent help and community that tries to meet each person's needs.
