    Beautiful campus but poor management

I placed my mother here - the campus is beautiful, clean and full of amenities with engaging activities and some genuinely caring nurses and rehab staff. But promises weren't kept (room work, level of care), maintenance screamed at family, security hassled caregivers, monthly charges are high with surprise fees (even for weed removal), and care declined after an ownership change with staffing cuts leaving aides overworked, rude or unresponsive. Mixed experience: lovely facility and great people in places, but management and staffing problems make me very cautious about recommending it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment for Ohio Living Dorothy Love is mixed but leans toward generally positive experiences with notable and recurring areas of serious concern. Many reviews strongly praise the facility’s physical plant, amenities, and large number of staff members who are described as kind, professional, and caring. Reviewers commonly note a clean, modern, and well-maintained campus with useful on-site services (church, gift shop, post office), connected buildings, accessible design (extra-wide doorways and halls), private apartment-style living spaces with kitchens and living rooms, and a family-friendly environment for gatherings. Dining receives favorable comments in multiple reviews — with in-room dining, snacks and ice cream singled out — and activity programming is widely reported as varied and life-enriching, including outings to movies and games. Rehabilitation services and specific wings (e.g., the east wing) earn consistent praise for proactive communication and high-quality care.

Staffing and direct care are the most polarizing themes. A large proportion of reviewers laud nurses, aides, therapy staff, maintenance, and administrative teams for compassionate, dignified, and effective care. Several first-hand accounts describe excellent rehab outcomes, attentive nursing, and caregivers who "went above and beyond." At the same time, a notable subset of reviews details serious lapses: residents reportedly left unattended or in unsanitary conditions, rude or cold interactions from aides and nurses, cold showers, and in a few accounts allegations of emotional and physical abuse. Many of these negative reports connect to staffing shortages and coverage gaps — reviewers describe reduced staffing, overworked remaining employees, and instances where management appeared to prioritize costs over resident care.

Management, promises, and organizational changes are another recurrent area of concern. Multiple reviewers state that amenities or renovations promised during the admission process were not completed, and some families reported aggressive or unprofessional conduct from maintenance or security staff. Financial issues are raised as well: reviewers mention high monthly charges, unexpected out-of-pocket expenses (for example, being asked to privately pay for weed removal), and a perceived focus on finances rather than resident welfare. Several negative comments tie the decline in quality to an ownership or acquisition change, noting that financial backers are out of state and that the facility name remained the same despite organizational shifts. Conversely, other reviewers explicitly praise administrative responsiveness and recommend the facility, indicating variability by department, timeframe, or wing.

Patterns that emerge across the reviews are (1) consistent strengths in facility condition, amenities, and activity offerings; (2) strong pockets of compassionate, skilled staff and successful rehab experiences; and (3) unevenness and variability in day-to-day care quality tied to staffing, management decisions, and possible organizational changes. The variability is notable: many families report peace of mind and excellent care (including dementia care), while others recount traumatic experiences that they regret. Communication also varies — some wings or teams provide proactive, detailed updates to families, while others are described as unresponsive or dismissive.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families based on these reviews: (1) conduct an in-person tour of the specific unit or wing you intend to use and observe staffing levels across different times of day; (2) ask directly about recent ownership/management changes, staffing ratios, turnover rates, and policies on promised renovations or amenities; (3) request written agreements about what amenities and services are included and any additional fees; (4) speak with current families in the particular unit to understand unit-level culture; and (5) confirm procedures for complaints, security policies for visitors and caregivers, and how medical issues are escalated and communicated. In summary, Ohio Living Dorothy Love appears to offer strong amenities, a pleasant environment, and many excellent caregivers, but there are credible and recurring reports of inconsistency and serious care concerns that warrant careful, unit-specific due diligence before placement.
