    Wonderful staff and excellent amenities

I live here and would highly recommend it. The staff are wonderful, attentive and made a difficult transition easy; the building is very clean and safe with tons of amenities (gym, salon, woodshop, garden, movie theater, library, heated underground parking) and my spacious apartment has a full kitchen and heated floors. Dining is generally good with multiple choices and 24/7 coffee/juice, though meals can be inconsistent at times.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Washington Crossing is strongly positive, with consistent praise for staff, cleanliness, apartment size, and the breadth of on-site amenities. Many reviewers emphasize a warm, homey atmosphere created by friendly and attentive staff who make residents and families feel welcome. The facility is repeatedly described as very clean and well-maintained, and staff are characterized as patient, helpful, and able to ease difficult transitions. Several reviewers explicitly recommend the community and say their loved ones were made comfortable and at home.

Facilities and living spaces receive frequent praise. Apartments are described as big, bright and spacious, including two-bedroom units with dens and large room sizes. Notable in-unit features include full kitchens (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and sink) and heated flooring in apartments, which reviewers highlighted as a comfort advantage. The property offers underground heated parking, which is appreciated for convenience and safety. Shared amenities are comprehensive: a large dining area, movie theater, gym with equipment, library, woodshop, garden/outdoor space, game room, and laundry facilities. Reviewers note that the layout and apartment sizing work well for residents and that the location is convenient for families and close to services like a hair salon and convenience store.

Activities and services are another strong point. The community runs a variety of activities — card games, bingo, Wii bowling and similar social options — and describes a pleasant, social atmosphere among residents. Practical services such as weekly linen change and biweekly apartment cleaning are offered and valued by families. Additional conveniences like 24/7 coffee and juice service and on-site chef support a comfortable daily life. Several reviewers called out the dining experience as well-presented with multiple meal choices (some saying there are four choices) and tasty meals, noting a large and beautiful dining room that supports social dining.

The most notable area of concern across the reviews is dining quality consistency. While many reviewers praise the on-site chef and tasty, well-presented meals, a subset reported undercooked items (specifically undercooked food and flabby chicken wings) and less appealing dessert choices (fruit cocktail cited), and described meals as ‘‘not gourmet.’’ A few reviews also mentioned limited meal options, creating a mixed picture on dining satisfaction. These comments suggest variability in day-to-day meal execution or menu selection that prospective residents should explore further.

Other minor negatives include mentions of occasional building quirks and that the move/transition process can be difficult for some residents, though multiple reviewers also said staff helped make transitions easier. In balance, the dominant themes are positive: a helpful and caring staff, clean and comfortable living spaces, plentiful amenities and activities, and overall resident satisfaction. Prospective residents and families should focus on asking about current dining menus and sample meals during a tour, inquire about the cleaning/linen schedule and any building specifics that might affect personal preferences, and weigh the generally strong community and service support against the reported variability in food quality.

    About Washington Crossing

Washington Crossing Senior Living, located at 4709 E 6th St #108 in South Dakota, offers seniors quite a range of living options and levels of care, so if someone's looking for independent living, assisted living, memory care, or even nursing home and skilled nursing services, it's all under one roof, and what stands out is those board and care homes nestled in residential neighborhoods, where small groups of residents get daily help but still feel like they're at home, and the community aims to let people age in place, moving smoothly from one type of care to another as their needs change, so you've got everything from independent senior apartments with full kitchens and balcony options all the way to secure memory care communities with 24-hour support, and you'll see a variety of housing set-ups, like studios, one-bed, and two-bed apartments, including private and semi-private rooms, many of which are pet-friendly and have things like in-floor heat in ground-floor units, and every apartment lets you control your own thermostat for comfort, and you won't have to worry about lawn care or shoveling snow since they keep everything maintenance-free.

Staff offer help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, meals, and personal care, and for those who need skilled nursing, there's round-the-clock medical care with rehab, wound care, and occupational therapy, and there's an on-call registered nurse 24/7, plus personal care assistants to help as needed or on a schedule, so whether someone's needing just a hand with day-to-day tasks or more complex care, that support is available, and memory care residents have secure environments, memory programs, and activities to help with dementia or Alzheimer's, and you'll see outdoor courtyards, walking trails, and dog parks for exercise and fresh air, along with community spaces inside like a library, indoor theater, club room, fitness studio, game room, chapel, and even a woodshop, so there's always something to do, and the full activity calendar includes crafts, concerts, games, and wellness and education programs, while social events and community gatherings add to the sense of connection and fulfillment.

Seniors can take advantage of a full-service salon, heated underground parking, guest parking, housekeeping, cable and Wi-Fi, washers and dryers, and transportation services for outings or appointments, and meals are provided with attention to nutrition, though residents with kitchens can also prepare their own food or cook together, and between the personal safety features like wheelchair access and sprinklers, and the broad range of amenities, the focus seems to be on residents' comfort, health, and staying active, so in the end Washington Crossing Senior Living provides a mix of privacy, independence, medical support, and daily help, which suits many seniors who want to keep their independence but need some extra backing as time goes on.
