    Safe, caring, clean, engaging community

I've lived here five years and feel safe, well cared for, and grateful - the staff are attentive, friendly and top-notch (special thanks to Teresa, Marsha and Brittany). The facility is very clean, with reliable maintenance and housekeeping, three good meals a day, patio and raised garden beds; the activities director runs excellent programs (exercise, gardening, cribbage, church, field trips, weekly Zooms). Family communication is frequent and reassuring - I highly recommend this supportive, engaging place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with consistent emphasis on high-quality care and a caring, attentive staff. Multiple reviewers describe the care as "top-notch" or "exceptional," and several single out nursing staff and individual employees (notably Marsha, Teresa, and Brittany) for going above and beyond. Long-term residency (one reviewer noted five years) and family comments that they feel at ease suggest sustained satisfaction rather than isolated praise.

Staff and management receive repeated commendation. Reviewers highlight friendly, compassionate caregivers and a supportive administration that communicates frequently and reassuringly with families. Good housekeeping and reliable maintenance are specifically called out, which supports perceptions of a well-run facility. The combination of attentive nursing, supportive leadership, and steady communication contributes to residents and families feeling safe and secure.

Activities and social engagement are standout themes. The facility offers a wide variety of programs — gardening (raised beds), cribbage, church services, crafts, games, and an active calendar of field trips and events. The activities director is praised repeatedly, described as beloved by residents and responsible for many "gold-star" activities. Transportation for outings, including rides to ball games and events, is repeatedly mentioned and appreciated, especially by families who cannot always provide transportation themselves. Weekly Zoom calls are highlighted as a way to keep families connected and informed.

Dining and amenities are also favorably reviewed. Reviewers note three meals a day with enjoyable food service and residents expressing that they "enjoy meals." The facility is described as very clean and offering pleasant outdoor spaces such as a patio and raised garden beds. At the same time, rooms are characterized as small or adequate rather than spacious or particularly special; this is the most consistent, specific criticism across the reviews.

Notable concerns are limited but worth acknowledging. Early in the COVID pandemic the facility implemented no-contact restrictions that some reviews referenced; this is presented as an initial policy rather than an ongoing problem, however, and did not outweigh overall positive impressions. The modest room sizes and comments that rooms are "not special" are the chief physical-plant criticisms. There are no repeated comments about poor care, safety failures, or management problems.

In summary, the reviews portray Aspen Grove Assisted Living as a well-managed, compassionate, and activity-rich community that delivers consistent, reassuring care. Strengths are concentrated in the quality of caregiving staff, the breadth and enthusiasm of the activities program (including transportation and community outings), clear family communication, clean facilities, and dependable support services like housekeeping and maintenance. The main drawbacks are modest room sizes and the temporary COVID-era visitation limitations; otherwise feedback is uniformly positive and many reviewers strongly recommend the facility.

    About Aspen Grove Assisted Living

Aspen Grove Assisted Living stands at 2065 Moose Dr. in Sturgis, SD, near the edge of the Black Hills National Forest, and the place feels pretty quiet and homey, with three neighborhoods built around cozy common spaces like a fireplace living room, a big activity area, and private family dining rooms, so folks can gather or have a little space of their own if they want it, and there's a variety of private suites, shared rooms, and even studio apartments, all fully furnished, with kitchenettes, private bathrooms, phones, air-conditioning, and cable, so there's enough comfort and privacy no matter which room someone chooses. The community keeps things easy by handling housekeeping, laundry, bed linens, and all the cooking, and the kitchen uses organic ingredients and can make meals for special diets, like for folks with diabetes or allergies, so nobody has to worry about those details, and there's family-style dining and even outdoor barbecue spots when weather allows. Folks can join arts and crafts, tabletop games, movie nights, outings, fitness and wellness programs, and group events, or relax outside on the walking paths, in vegetable and flower gardens, or sit around the patio area, and the staff takes time to plan activities to fit everyone's interests, so there's always something to do if you feel like joining in.

Aspen Grove has 24-hour supervision with a call system, so help is always close for medical concerns, with registered nurses, certified caregivers, and part-time nurses who assist with medication, bathing, dressing, toileting, and moving around, and when health needs go beyond regular care, on-call licensed nursing staff helps, and visiting doctors and specialized providers like dental and podiatry services visit regularly, while a medical director leads the overall wellness programs, medication management, and health monitoring, keeping an eye on every resident's needs. For seniors who need memory care, dementia, or Alzheimer's support, Aspen Grove offers personalized help in a safe and nurturing setting, and they design each service plan with the resident's strengths in mind so families feel supported too, with regular updates and communication services to keep everyone in the loop. The facility keeps things low-stress by arranging transportation to doctor appointments and outings, and with parking for residents and visitors, getting around's straightforward, while also offering in-house salon and barber services so folks always feel presentable without leaving home.

Aspen Grove's part of the EmpRes Healthcare Management family, follows state regulations (license number 65673), and accepts several payment options like Medicaid, Medicare, and insurance, so families can plan with more flexibility. The community has earned recognition, winning the 2017 AHCA Bronze National Quality Award and the 2018 Pinnacle Customer Experience Award, and the staff's known for staying long-term and treating people with dignity, aiming to make life safe, social, and comfortable for seniors in Sturgis and nearby towns, especially for those wanting a clean, maintenance-free living space with support on hand.
