    Warm caring staff, highly recommended

I placed my grandmother here for a short concussion recovery and I'm very glad I did. The nurses and staff are caring, friendly, and professional; the facility is clean, comfortable, home-like, and feels safe. The visiting room is spacious, residents seem happy, and management is attentive. It's pricey, but the quality of care and warm, family-like atmosphere made it worth it - I would choose to return and highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews convey a strongly positive overall impression of Jenkin's Living Center & Rehab. Multiple commenters emphasize compassionate nursing care, a friendly and welcoming staff, and an environment that feels warm and home-like. The facility is repeatedly described as clean, comfortable, and located in a safe neighborhood. Several reviewers explicitly recommended the facility and said they would return, and at least one reviewer reported a successful short stay for concussion recovery, indicating effective short-term rehab services.

Care quality and clinical outcomes: Reviewers consistently highlight good quality care and caring nurses. Statements such as "caring nurses," "grandmother happy," and "good quality care" point to satisfaction with clinical and day-to-day caregiving. The specific mention of a short stay for concussion recovery and the comment that it was the "right place to be" suggest the facility is capable of delivering effective short-term rehabilitation and recovery support in addition to long-term care.

Staff, management, and atmosphere: The staff are described as friendly, smiling, and welcoming; this produces a family-like, warm, and home-like atmosphere that reviewers found comforting. Good management is also specifically called out, implying that operations, communication, and overall coordination are perceived as competent. The combination of attentive staff and solid management appears to produce positive family experiences and lasting memories.

Facilities, safety, and visiting environment: Physical aspects of the facility receive positive comments: reviewers note clean rooms and overall cleanliness of the facility, and they describe a comfortable, spacious visiting room. The site's location in a safe neighborhood is mentioned, which contributes to family members' peace of mind when visiting. These points suggest that both the built environment and the visiting accommodations support resident well-being and family engagement.

Social life and resident experience: Several reviews say residents "seem to enjoy themselves," and reviewers describe the environment as comfortable and inviting. While details on specific activities or programming are not provided in the summaries, the overall tenor indicates residents are content and there is a pleasant community feel.

Cost and value considerations: The primary negative or caveat across the summaries is cost. Reviewers note a "price downside," although one comment qualifies that the cost was "worth it." This pattern indicates that while the facility may be more expensive than alternatives, many families feel the quality of care and environment justify the expense. Potential residents and family members should be prepared to consider cost as a factor and to weigh it against the positive aspects reported by others.

Limitations and gaps in the reviews: The summaries are uniformly positive but brief, and they omit detailed information about some areas families often ask about, such as dining quality, specific activity schedules, therapy staffing levels, or long-term clinical outcomes for a wide variety of conditions. The available comments emphasize caregiving, cleanliness, atmosphere, and cost, so stakeholders should follow up for specifics in areas not covered if those are important to their decision.

Bottom line: Taken together, the reviews paint Jenkin's Living Center & Rehab as a well-managed, clean, and comfortable facility with compassionate staff and a family-like atmosphere. It appears to deliver good clinical care, including successful short-term rehab, and to foster positive resident experiences. The main drawback noted is higher cost, though multiple reviewers felt the price was justified given the quality of care and environment. Prospective residents and families would be well-advised to tour the facility, ask targeted questions about therapy and activity programming, and compare cost and services to their needs and budget.

About Jenkin's Living Center & Rehab

Jenkin's Living Center & Rehab sits right in Historic Uptown Watertown, South Dakota, and has been around a long time, providing most every kind of care an older person might need, whether that means living on their own with a bit of help, short-term rehab after a hospital stay, memory care for folks with dementia, or round-the-clock skilled nursing for those who need more medical attention. The center houses 110 licensed beds for skilled long-term care and has a full care team including nurses, therapists, and personal care assistants who help with things like dressing, bathing, wound care, and medications, and they try to keep a familiar, steady staff by using little agency nursing. There's a real focus on comfort, with rooms that have cable TV, WiFi, and their own private in-house TV channel, plus electronic Kindles, guest parking, and two computer stations if anyone feels up for learning new things or staying in touch with their family online. You'll find a chapel for spiritual needs and outdoor spaces like the City Park and pleasant gathering places, and everybody from Townview Apartments, which is a six-story, 60-unit building often full thanks to high demand, to Maple Place, a 35-apartment spot that's been getting some needed renovations, has access to social spaces with balconies and handicap-friendly features. Jenkins offers a good balance between helping those who can handle living mostly on their own and supporting those who need a lot of daily help, so folks can move in for a short stay-or even long-term-depending on what they need, and there's both Medicare and Medicaid acceptance for those who qualify. Residents can get physical, occupational, vision, and speech therapy, with specialized rehab programs for both inpatient and outpatient care, and many of the therapies use up-to-date technology to help with recovery. The place aims to be safe with things like sprinkler systems and handicap features all around, and you'll find amenities like a dining room with restaurant-style meals, the Fireside Private Dining Room for small family gatherings, a big lobby, arts and crafts, health programs, and a Main Street Mercantile Gift Shop and even an Old Fashion Soda Fountain and hand-painted mural that feels a bit like old Watertown. Housekeeping comes standard, there's laundry, transportation, and all sorts of health and personal supports, from medication management and wound care to programs for Alzheimer's and dementia, using up-to-date understanding in their memory care wing to make sure every resident gets the care and activities they need to feel safe, engaged, and respected. For those wanting activity, there's a fitness center, spacious game room, guest parking, scheduled rides, and group outings, plus regular social, wellness, and educational programs for all interests. Jenkins employs nearly 200 people, making it a big piece of the local community, and it's been recognized with grants like the $25,633 from the Watertown Area Community Foundation, showing some stability with assets totaling over $16 million. Memory care is an area where staff have extra training and planning, providing specialized activities and safety for those with memory loss or Alzheimer's. Residents have access to private rooms if preferred, and rooms come with amenities, easy access to washers and dryers, and safety and maintenance taken care of so families can worry less. Jenkin's Living Center & Rehab stays committed to a mission of comfort and dignity, focusing on quality caregiving without much fuss, and it's always been a place aiming for a warm, home-like feel where people know their needs will be met, whether they're there for a short rehab or to settle in for the long haul.
