    Attractive community, costly, some concerns

I toured this beautiful, well-maintained senior community and was impressed by the large, nicely decorated apartments, landscaping, garage, fitness center, pool, rehab and on-site clinic/doctor. There are lots of activities, outings and dining options (one meal included; extra meals are expensive) - food is OK but could be better. Staff and nurses are generally caring and rehab staff know residents, though some employees seemed less knowledgeable than competitors and I encountered occasional rude/unprofessional behavior. I was concerned by a confusing layout, inconsistent directions, limited laundry info and at least one troubling safety/management incident involving a forced discharge. My mom is happy here and it's a tour-worthy, top-quality place if you can afford its high, exclusive cost.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is largely positive with notable strengths in staff caringness, amenities, and activity programming, but tempered by several meaningful negatives around cost, communication, and at least one serious safety/management incident.

Care quality and staff: Many reviewers repeatedly highlight compassionate, caring nurses, aides, and staff who know residents by name and "go the extra mile." Multiple comments call the community "amazing" and praise professional, helpful staff. Rehab and nursing services receive strong praise in several reviews, with references to excellent care and top-quality rehab equipment. At the same time, a minority of reviews describe unprofessional or rude staff interactions (including hanging up on callers) and note that some staff are less knowledgeable compared to competitors. This creates a split impression: most residents and family members report very positive, attentive care, while a smaller number report poor interactions or deficiencies in staff knowledge.

Facilities and living options: The property is described as clean, neat, attractive, and well-maintained with beautifully landscaped grounds. There are multiple living configurations including independent living apartments, cottages, and memory care—supporting aging in place. Positive facility features cited include large rooms, private outdoor courtyards or balconies, garage access, a fitness center, and a swimming pool. Maintenance responsiveness is a consistent positive point. However, some reviewers found the facility layout confusing, with inconsistent directions from staff causing navigation difficulties for visitors or new residents.

Activities and community life: Activities are a standout strength. Reviewers mention a wide variety of programs (Wii bowling, daily exercise classes, games, special events like Memorial Day observances, and outings such as trips to Walmart, the casino, and Nutcracker tickets). Participation is described as flexible, and many residents appreciate the range of social and recreational options. The overall community atmosphere is often described as friendly and inclusive, contributing to residents’ happiness and social engagement.

Dining and food: Opinions on dining are mixed. Several reviewers say the food is good or excellent and appreciate that one meal is included in the rent, while others say food "could be better" or that additional meals are expensive. The in-room dining option and dining room are seen as positives, but cost transparency around extra meals (and limited meal inclusion) is a recurring concern.

Cost, management, and safety concerns: Cost is frequently mentioned as a downside—reviews call the community expensive or beyond some budgets. Most critically, there is at least one serious report of a safety and management issue: a patient safety incident involving a barricaded door, followed by a forced discharge after only five days that required family to provide round-the-clock care. That incident led reviewers to question management decisions and oversight. While many reviews praise management and staff, this specific negative event stands out as a significant concern and is likely to weigh heavily for prospective residents and families evaluating risk and administrative responsiveness.

Other practical concerns: Reviewers noted logistical issues such as distance for families, inconsistent or insufficient information about laundry services, and occasional nuisance issues like smoking on cottage balconies. There are also reports of some residents being rude, which can affect the living environment for others.

Summary assessment: The community appears to offer strong, compassionate day-to-day care, robust activities, attractive and well-maintained facilities, and useful on-site medical support—including memory care and rehab—making it a very good fit for many seeking an active and supported senior living environment. Prospective residents should weigh these strengths against recurrent concerns: high cost, mixed dining experiences and extra meal expenses, occasional staff communication problems, confusing facility layout for newcomers, and the notable isolated safety/management incident. Those considering Rolling Meadows will likely find much to admire about the physical campus and the majority of staff and programs, but should ask direct questions during a tour about incident handling, staffing consistency, meal costs and options, laundry and other service details, and specific policies around safety and resident placement to address the important concerns raised in the reviews.

    About Rolling Meadows

Rolling Meadows sits as a place where seniors can choose how they'd like to live and you see they've got independent living apartments and cottages that let people take care of themselves but in a safer space, so you'll find full kitchens, patios or balconies, and individual heating and air conditioning in each unit, which can make things comfortable, and for those who love pets, they've got pet-friendly policies with a special dog park too, and you see cats and dogs are welcome as long as they're under the weight limit, which means seniors can keep the pets that keep them company. Folks looking to stay active have the use of a fitness gym, and there's a chapel, media center, and many recreational areas for social and emotional well-being, and there always seems to be some guided events, newsletters, or wellness programs like the Thrive Guide and Falls Future 2.0 so residents get help if they're interested in staying in good health. When you move through the common areas you find indoor atriums, outdoor patios, a beauty salon, library, and bar or pub, and the dining rooms offer restaurant-style and guest meals, with a focus on healthy ingredients, and people can get home care and meal preparation if it's needed.

Rolling Meadows has around-the-clock security and 24-hour emergency call systems in each unit, so help is there when people need it, and families don't have to worry as much. You've also got transportation and parking, plus some free rides if people want to get out and about. Residents sometimes need a bit more help, and the assisted living and memory care, especially through The Pines at Rolling Meadow, means there's always someone around to support daily tasks like bathing or medication, and if someone has Alzheimer's or dementia, there are special programs to reduce confusion and keep people safe. There's also The Gables which handles nursing care if a higher level of medical help is needed. On top of that, there's a medical clinic and a full home care agency onsite, with trained aides and nurses, plus access to a physician.

The place has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, which might make people feel at ease, and they focus on Christian-based care if that's important to someone. You'll find lots to do here, with weekly events and social happenings, so folks can stay busy, and all of this is led by President/Director Mr. Gary Silverman and Executive Director Ms. Cindy Noe, who run Rolling Meadows and its smaller communities like The Greenleaf, The Oakbrook, The Meadow Glen, The Woodridge, The Briarwood, The Willowcrest, The Stoneleigh, and The Amberwood. The campus encourages staying active and independent, but if you start needing more care or medical help down the road, there's always someone close by. For businesses and community groups, Rolling Meadows supports small business services, economic initiatives, a jobs board, and engagement through its chamber membership, so folks who care about community can stay involved. Residents come from different backgrounds, seeking a safe and friendly place where daily life feels manageable and connected, so Rolling Meadows offers a setting where retirees can call it home, keep up with friends, maybe bring a pet, and get the care they need without a fuss.
