    Beautiful community with excellent amenities

I toured the community and am moving in soon. The grounds and common areas are beautiful and well-kept, with great amenities - pools, a well-equipped exercise room (yoga/aerobics), performing-arts space and three restaurant-style dining options with talented chefs. Private rooms are bright, nicely decorated and airy with adequate storage, though apartments are on the small side and pricing is premium. Staff were kind, efficient and communicative (exceptional tour guide Paul); memory care is integrated and highly recommended. Lots of activities, outings and social opportunities, daily updates from staff, and very high occupancy with only a few rooms left. Note: COVID restrictions limited indoor visits during my tour, and a few people reported occasional short-staffing and that the facility isn't the newest.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Evergreen Retirement Community is predominantly positive, with frequent praise directed at the staff, dining, cleanliness, and social programming. Many reviewers highlighted an excellent first impression driven by a bright, thoughtfully laid-out campus with attractive views and well-maintained grounds. Admissions experiences receive strong marks: tours are described as exceptional (Paul singled out by name), follow-up is timely, and move-in documentation and brochures are well organized and pre-emptive of typical questions. The community is noted for having a welcoming atmosphere, an obvious effort to present residents’ rooms and common areas attractively, and attention to detail such as photos in memory-care rooms and adequate in-room storage.

Care quality and staff performance are recurring strengths. Numerous reviewers call staff professional, caring, personable, and knowledgeable; long-tenured staff are visible and celebrated. Families reported clear communication, including daily updates in some cases, and competent clinical staff in both assisted living and memory care. Positive care outcomes were specifically mentioned (for example, a resident who gained weight after admission), and memory care was praised for not needlessly isolating residents while still providing privacy and individualized rooms. That said, there is some variability in experiences: while many describe attentive caregiving, a minority of reviews note instances of perceived subpar care or short-staffing, suggesting that staffing levels and care consistency may fluctuate.

Facilities and amenities earn repeated commendation. Reviewers list multiple dining venues (three restaurants), high-quality and varied food prepared by chefs, well-maintained common areas, a performing-arts area, well-equipped fitness spaces (yoga and aerobics), and organized outings to galleries and local restaurants. Several reviewers described comfortable communal spaces and an active social calendar (happy hours, bingo, trips). There are also mentions of state-of-the-art amenities such as pools and condo options; however, this point is somewhat inconsistent across reviews—some visitors call parts of the community modern and resort-like, while others say certain areas are not the most up-to-date. Apartment size is another recurring theme: some praise condos and small apartments for being efficient, while multiple reviewers comment that rooms can be small, which factors into perceived value.

Dining and social programming are particular highlights. The food receives frequent positive comments for variety and quality, and the presence of multiple dining venues and healthy snack options is repeatedly appreciated. Activities range from on-site classes and entertainment to off-site cultural outings; however, engagement levels among residents vary—some reviewers observed many active, engaged residents, while others noted that some residents remain less active or use wheelchairs and do not participate. Memory care integration is generally seen as respectful and inclusive, though visitation restrictions during COVID isolation periods were reported as limiting family contact (e.g., window-only visits), which affected some family experiences.

Cost and value are a key concern for a subset of reviewers. Several describe the community as premium-priced or expensive, with a few feeling the pricing outstrips the value offered—comments include ‘‘over budget,’’ ‘‘expensive pricing,’’ and ‘‘not excellent for what they offer.’’ Occupancy levels are high (many report very full occupancy with only a few rooms left), which both signals demand and can be a practical constraint for prospective residents seeking immediate placement.

In sum, Evergreen Retirement Community is frequently characterized as a welcoming, well-run community with strong dining, engaging programming, attractive public spaces, and a caring staff. Most reviewers are satisfied and would recommend the community, particularly praising admissions, ongoing communication, and the quality of food and activities. Areas for prospective residents to investigate further include apartment size and layout (some are small), the community’s current staffing levels and consistency of clinical care, and the cost/value equation for specific unit types. Families for whom modern, larger unit footprints at a lower price are critical may want to compare floor plans and pricing closely, while those prioritizing food quality, active programming, and empathetic staff are likely to find Evergreen a strong match.

    About Evergreen Retirement Community

Evergreen Retirement Community sits on N Westfield St in Oshkosh and covers over 35 acres surrounded by Oak Savanna woodlands and natural walking trails, so folks living there can watch the seasons change and enjoy the quiet of the outdoors, with nearby gardens, waterfalls, and green pocket neighborhoods where homes gather around shared spaces, and there's always something blooming or leaves to watch blow around. This is a non-profit, Christian-based community that focuses on people having choices, freedom, and safety, and staff work every day to make sure residents feel valued, whether residents live independently or need some help with daily things. There are about 250 people living here on campus, and everyone from grandchildren to volunteers to local groups shows up for annual events like Oshkosh Celebration of Lights and Nutcracker in the Castle, which makes it feel like home and brings in new faces all the time.

This campus offers three types of independent living-Courtyard Residence Apartments, Manor Apartments, Evergreen Village, and houses called Evergreen Homes-for folks who want to downsize but aren't ready to give up their own kitchens or living rooms, plus two levels of assisted living and memory care for people who need some or a lot of help, and a skilled nursing facility with long-term care, short-term rehab, and post-surgical support, so people don't have to worry about moving to another place as needs change, because it's a Continuing Care Retirement Community. Evergreen At Home provides personal care and homemaker services for those preferring to stay where they are, and for anyone recovering from surgery or illness there are inpatient rehabilitation and therapy services.

Staff at Evergreen offer help with moving around, daily care, and provide a 24-hour call system for safety, and there are services for bathing, dressing, and medication management, including care for people who aren't able to walk or who have memory loss. There's plenty to choose from for meals-cafeteria, group dining rooms, and three dining spots-with menu choices for people with allergies or diabetes, and they handle laundry, dry cleaning, and housekeeping for folks who don't want to keep up with chores anymore. People can catch the bus or use parking lots if they drive, and the place sits close to I-41 for families visiting from all over.

There's a library, gift shop, salon and barber, fitness rooms, arts room, chapel, and healthcare services, and the staff puts together all sorts of recreational and social programs, from bingo and grand evenings to music events, trips, computer classes, laughter clubs, and card games, plus group meals like men's breakfast and women's lunch. You'll find local art, coloring pages, the Oshkosh Scavenger Hunt, a Mini Mural Project, and a focus on arts and culture with museums, galleries, theater, and even annual happenings like the EAA AirVenture. Outdoors there's fishing, kayaking, walking, and parks like Menominee Park and Lake Winnebago nearby, along with boutiques, farmers markets, and places for camping, hotels, or RV stays if people visit.

If someone wants to hold a meeting, a family event, or even a wedding, the community hosts gatherings and special occasions, and Evergreen Foundation supports ongoing activities and community service projects. It's easy for residents to feel connected, with social clubs, speaker series, and opportunities for volunteering, and those who need therapy or nursing care get help right in the same place. The campus blends the feeling of a small town with wide open natural space and specialized care, so folks can stay as active and engaged as they want, with options that fit nearly any need as time goes by.
