    Caring staff but poor facility

I've had a mixed experience. Many caregivers were attentive, loving, and helped my family member make clear rehab progress with prompt updates and good communication (including virtual visits). But the building is unevenly maintained - old in places and sometimes filthy (urine-soaked room, dirty bathroom), with stolen clothes, medication/timing delays, bedpan waits, inconsistent staffing, and at least one fall with questionable explanations. Overall I'm grateful for excellent care from many staff but wary because of serious lapses in cleanliness, coordination, and reliability.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment from these review summaries is strongly mixed, with a substantial portion of reviewers offering high praise for staff and the living environment, while a significant minority report serious incidents of neglect, poor hygiene, and unprofessional behavior. Many reviewers emphasize responsive, friendly and professional caregivers who provide attentive assistance with activities of daily living, timely medical updates, good communication in some cases, and a home-like atmosphere. Those reviewers often note well-kept grounds, seasonal decorations, comfortable residents who enjoy the facility, effective rehab progress for certain patients, and a welcoming environment that makes family members feel confident. Several specific positives recur: staff that are accommodating of visits (plexiglass and virtual options), prompt responses to needs such as showering and dressing, and regular activities that engage residents.

Counterbalancing those positives are multiple serious concerns raised by other reviewers. There are repeated, specific allegations of neglect — urine-soaked rooms, dirty bathrooms, delays in responding to toileting needs, and improper laundry handling including reports of stolen clothing. Medical care inconsistencies are a notable theme: medication timing issues, mishandled foot infections, improper catheter care and subsequent urinary tract infection risk, and at least one reported fall with concerns about staff honesty in reporting the event. Several reviews describe rude or unprofessional staff behavior, including problematic night aide conduct and 'creepy' actions, and observers mention staff socializing in work areas rather than attending to residents. These issues point to potential staffing and supervision problems, including short-staffing and poor staff accountability.

Facilities and amenities receive mixed descriptions. Multiple reviewers praise the facility exterior and grounds, describing them as inviting and well-kept, with pleasant seasonal decorations. Some reviewers report spotless interiors and an inviting atmosphere. However, other accounts label the building old or run-down, report wrong or inadequate mattresses, and describe a depressing environment with visible maintenance or cleanliness issues. Dining experiences are likewise inconsistent: some residents 'like the food' and others state the food is 'horrible.' Rehab services are praised by some for measurable progress and attentive therapy, while others call the rehab 'horrible' and ineffective. These contradictions suggest variability in resident experiences that could be due to unit-level differences, time-based staffing changes, or inconsistent management practices.

Communication and management appear to be strengths for some families and weaknesses for others. Several reviews note clear communication with medical/legal contacts, timely updates about doctor visits and falls, and easy access to information. Conversely, other reviews highlight poor care coordination, lack of communication, and families being discouraged from visiting. This divergence suggests that while systems for communication may exist, their consistent application is uneven. The coexistence of highly positive 'five-star' experiences and severe negative incidents (neglect, hygiene failures, stolen items, medication and infection-control problems) indicates a lack of uniform quality control and supervision.

In summary, Sun Prairie Senior Living elicits polarized feedback. Many reviewers are very satisfied, praising caring, professional staff, an engaging environment, good rehab outcomes in some cases, and pleasant grounds. At the same time, a concerning minority report serious care and safety failures, hygiene and infection-control lapses, rude or inattentive staff, and inconsistent management. Prospective residents and families should weigh both sets of experiences: the facility has clear strengths but also documented risks. When considering Sun Prairie, it would be prudent to tour the specific unit, ask directly about staffing ratios and supervision (especially night shift), inquire about infection control and laundry procedures, request recent inspection reports and incident logs, and speak with current families on the same unit to gauge consistency of care and whether the positive experiences are typical for the neighborhood of the facility where their loved one would live.
