    Friendly staff, nice apartments, caveats

I toured Brookhaven and I liked the friendly, professional, and informative staff and the nicely finished 2BR/2BA apartments with in-unit washer/dryer and garage parking. Common areas and the downstairs lobby are clean and nicely decorated, and activities (dances, bingo, meals, excursions, workout room) are good though sometimes limited or resident-organized. Staff are responsive and helpful and transport to the mall is offered; pricing is income-based. My concerns: cleaning isn't always comprehensive, some buildings feel motel-like, and there are younger families and noisy kids despite 55+ eligibility, so it's not ideal for very frail elders. Overall I liked it and would recommend with reservations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Brookhaven at County Line is broadly positive, with consistent praise for staff, apartment quality, and social programming, tempered by notable concerns about resident mix and some inconsistency in cleanliness and services. Many reviewers highlight the professionalism and friendliness of staff at all levels, including an informative and approachable director. Staff are described as responsive, patient, and caring; several comments single out helpfulness around move-ins, activities, and resident care. This strong staff reputation is one of the community's clearest strengths and frequently cited as a reason residents and visitors feel comfortable recommending the facility.

The physical environment and apartment features receive favorable remarks. Reviewers repeatedly mention well-sized apartment layouts, attractive finishes, in-unit washer and dryer units, and available garage parking. Common areas and the downstairs lobby are described as beautiful and nicely decorated, and there are spaces suitable for gatherings and resident-organized events. Amenities called out include a workout room, a pleasant dining area, coffee and breakfast offerings, and organized transportation such as rides to the mall. Multiple reviewers reported clean, well-maintained facilities and said that apartments are nicely finished, which supports an overall impression of a quality living environment.

Activities and social life are another frequently praised area: dances, bingo, meals, excursions, and other events were mentioned positively by several reviewers. The programming is seen as varied and well-run by many, and residents describe a lively social calendar. That said, a minority of reviews noted limited activities or that some programs felt resident-organized rather than staff-led; this points to variability in the depth and consistency of activities depending on timing and tenant participation.

Two related concerns stand out clearly in the reviews: the presence of younger residents and children, and variability in cleanliness. Several reviewers expressed surprise or frustration that children and families are present in hallways and elevators, and some said the community felt noisy or not appropriate for frailer elderly individuals. There is mention that age policy may have been misrepresented to some prospective residents, creating tension for those expecting a strictly 55+ environment. Cleanliness is generally described as very good in many areas, yet multiple comments indicate that cleaning can be uneven, with certain common areas or parts of the property less well-maintained. A few reviewers also described some parts of the property or units as having a motel-like feel, suggesting inconsistency in decor or finishes across buildings.

Other practical considerations include the campus layout and transportation. The community spans multiple buildings, which some find disjointed or potentially confusing, and while transportation is offered (for example rides to the mall), at least one reviewer noted transportation could be an issue for residents without cars. Income-based pricing was mentioned in passing by one reviewer and may be relevant to some prospects but was not a major theme.

In summary, Brookhaven at County Line appears to deliver strong staff support, attractive apartment features, and an active social environment for many residents. Prospects who value helpful staff, good on-site amenities, and an engaged social calendar are likely to find the community appealing. However, prospective residents who want a strictly 55+ or very quiet, low-traffic senior environment should investigate the current resident mix and clarify the age policy, and should tour multiple buildings to assess condition and cleanliness consistency. Ask specific questions about cleaning schedules, activity programming, and transportation options to ensure the community fits personal mobility and noise-sensitivity needs.

    About Brookhaven at County Line

Brookhaven at County Line sits in the Hill Valley neighborhood in Indianapolis and offers senior apartments for people aged 55 and up, and the building went up in 2009, so things inside still feel pretty new; you'll find spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments, usually between 720 and 1,085 square feet, with the nice touch of ceiling fans, carpeting, honey maple cabinets, kitchen pantries, washer and dryer hookups, breakfast bars, and either a patio or balcony for each unit where folks can sit outside or enjoy the view of the pond. The community has controlled building entry for safety and a manager on site, plus garages are available if someone drives, though the walk score sits around 31, so a car is helpful for errands but there's a community van for shopping and scheduled trips like to Brown County or the Indiana Grand Casino; the transit score says bus options are limited, but at least there's easy access to places like Community South Hospital, grocery stores, banking, and Greenwood Park Mall that's just under a mile away, which comes in handy quite a bit. Inside, some of the standout features include a hair and beauty salon, a theater room, a billiards room, a non-denominational chapel, a library with internet, as well as fitness and café areas, and all these amenities like mail and trash dumping are indoors, which is helpful in winter. Brookhaven's staff and managers, who work with Herman & Kittle Properties, tend to respond quickly and offer a clean, well-kept setting, and residents and their families mention the staff are caring and helpful, which counts for a lot when folks move.

The place puts a heavy emphasis on programs for seniors who need extra help, whether it's independent living, home care, assisted living, or a more specialized memory care unit, and there's a program for memory challenges that keeps people involved, which families seem to appreciate; health care services can be arranged inside the building if required. Activities are always planned in a way that encourages residents to spend time with each other and not sit alone-there's a full schedule that covers social, educational, and entertainment events, and you'll see a lot of laughter in the café and community rooms, on walks around the pond, or in group outings. The apartments allow pets and there's a clear pet policy, so people don't have to leave their dog or cat behind, and if you like to walk, there's a trail circling the pond, plus rooms and patios that overlook the water, which can be pretty peaceful in the evening. There's a focus on well-cooked, nutritious meals, and plenty of activities like card clubs, movie nights, and group trips; the community culture leans on kindness, commitment, and service, and there's both privacy and camaraderie, with diverse floor plans set up to support easy living for folks with different needs-schools nearby include Douglas Macarthur Elementary and Perry Meridian High School. Brookhaven takes appointments for tours during the week, and with all the features and care options, many find the place a steady, comfortable choice in Indianapolis for senior living.
