    Immaculate building, pricey, safety concerns

I liked the immaculate, new building, nicely landscaped grounds, well-equipped apartments (washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, refrigerator), and the many amenities and activities - staff and the manager were welcoming and helpful. The location is convenient and the building feels secure, but units are on the small side and parking/near-door access can be awkward. Costs are high with extra fees, and I noticed staff turnover, some mismanagement, accessibility and shower maintenance problems, and gaps in emergency/ADA planning. Overall very clean and friendly, but weigh the price against the safety/access concerns (meals not provided).

    Summary review

The reviews for Connect55+ Indianola present a mixed but clear picture: the physical plant and day-to-day resident experience are strongly praised, while management, safety, accessibility, and cost raise significant concerns. Many reviewers highlight the building as new, immaculate, and nicely landscaped. Apartments are described as well-equipped — several reviews specifically note in-unit appliances such as washer/dryer, dishwasher, stove, refrigerator and microwave — and there are multiple desirable common areas (weight room, parlor, game room, library, community room). Visitors and residents consistently report friendly, welcoming, and patient staff and a knowledgeable manager; several tour experiences were described as professional and helpful, reinforcing a positive impression of front-line personnel and customer service.

Activities and community life are another area of strength. Reviews mention a lively calendar with daily activities, monthly get-togethers, and organized outings (including dining and movie trips). The dining space is described as spacious and communal, and residents seem to find the social environment inviting, with welcoming fellow residents. The building is also cited as secure, conveniently located close to services, and offering near-door access for many units, which supports day-to-day convenience for older adults.

However, these positives are tempered by multiple, serious operational and safety-related concerns. Several reviewers point to staff turnover and perceptions of mismanagement at higher levels of administration. There are particularly troubling mentions of perceived indifference to abuse and explicit safety concerns, alongside reported shortcomings in emergency and fire planning. These comments suggest systemic issues that go beyond individual staff interactions and could affect resident well-being and trust in leadership. Related to operations, reviewers also reported maintenance problems such as recurring shower issues and other “glitches” that impact resident comfort.

Accessibility and accommodation issues are repeatedly called out. Multiple summaries note mobility and accessibility problems and limited availability of ADA-compliant rooms, which is a critical consideration for prospective residents who require accessible units or mobility aids. Parking and front-door access were also noted as problematic by some reviewers, undermining convenience for residents and visitors who rely on close access. Additionally, while many units are described as roomy, a number of reviews mention small room sizes for some floor plans — another important detail for those evaluating fit and comfort.

Cost and value are another consistent theme. Reviewers frequently cite higher-than-expected pricing and additional/extra fees. The cost/benefit calculus is complicated by the fact that meals are not clearly provided or are unknown in several summaries; prospective residents should verify whether meal services are included or require outside arrangements, as this materially affects monthly living costs and convenience.

In sum, Connect55+ Indianola appears to offer a high-quality physical environment, strong front-line staff interactions, comprehensive apartment amenities, and active programming that many residents appreciate. At the same time, potential residents and their families should weigh serious operational concerns — especially management practices, safety/emergency preparedness, accessibility limitations, and reported maintenance issues — alongside the relatively high cost and possible extra fees. Those considering the community would be well advised to: (1) ask detailed questions about emergency/fire procedures and recent incidents; (2) confirm ADA unit availability and specific accessibility features; (3) request a written list of fees and what is excluded (notably meals); (4) tour multiple floor plans to verify actual apartment sizes and maintenance status; and (5) speak with current residents about staff continuity and management responsiveness to safety or maintenance problems.

Overall sentiment from reviews is cautiously positive for the environment, amenities, and day-to-day staff interactions, but flagged by notable concerns about management, safety protocols, accessibility, and cost that could be decisive depending on an individual’s priorities and care needs.
