    Excellent, caring staff and amenities

I moved my mom into a brand-new 2-bedroom at Novel Place and I'm thrilled. The staff are warm, responsive and truly caring - the team is the community's #1 asset and the chef-prepared meals are a close #2. The building is spotless and modern (full kitchen, washer/dryer, fenced patio, courtyard views), with on-site medical services, strong security and excellent leadership. The social calendar is busy - exercise, games, concerts and outings - and residents quickly become family; I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive: Novel Place Overland Park is repeatedly described as a standout, modern, and welcoming senior living community. Reviewers consistently praise the facility's attractive new construction, elegant interior architecture, and thoughtfully decorated common areas (including a cozy library, TV room with a large screen, and pleasant reading/conversation spaces). Cleanliness and upkeep are recurring positives: housekeeping, maintenance, and general organization are highlighted as reliable and effective. The neighborhood location is praised as convenient and walkable to nearby restaurants and shops—specific mentions include Chick-fil-A, Whataburger, Andy's ice cream, Texas Roadhouse and Lowe's—adding to the community's appeal for everyday outings and errands.

Staff quality and management receive the strongest and most frequent commendations. Many reviews call the team the community's #1 asset: management, marketing, dining staff, activities director, caregiving staff and maintenance are described as friendly, caring, responsive and professional. Residents and family members report personalized attention (staff know residents’ names), quick responses to requests, and a supportive culture that fosters independence while offering help when needed. The marketing and administrative teams are noted for smooth tours and move-ins; the activities director is repeatedly singled out as "incredible" and crucial to the community’s social life. Several reviews also note on-site healthcare presence (Interim Health Care), and staff who help residents navigate choices and transitions.

Apartment features and amenities are emphasized throughout reviews. Units are described as well-sized with multiple floor plan options (including 1- and 2-bedroom units and dens), full kitchens, in-unit washers/dryers, walk-in showers in bathrooms, patios/courtyards and secure interior entrances. These apartment features support an independent lifestyle and are repeatedly called a major benefit. Common amenities extend to outdoor raised gardens, fenced patios, a welcoming dining room, and multiple social spaces that encourage residents to gather and form friendships.

Dining and food services elicit mixed but mostly positive feedback. Many reviewers praise chef-prepared meals, attractive presentation, and a pleasant dining atmosphere; staff are credited with accommodating allergies and making an effort with menus. Several families and residents recount festive dining events, well-planned holiday celebrations and themed parties that reinforce community bonds. However, there are recurring concerns about food consistency: a number of reviews mention bland food or dissatisfaction with specific meals. One reviewer described a Thanksgiving meal delivery mishap with leftovers. A scheduling note appears repeatedly: many reviews describe a pattern of two main meals offered daily (for example, breakfast and dinner Mon–Fri, with lunch/brunch service on some weekend days) rather than three full meals every day—prospective residents should confirm the current meal schedule during a tour.

Activities, social life and transportation are clear strengths. The community hosts a busy calendar that includes exercise classes, arts & crafts, card games, book clubs, movie nights, happy hour, live entertainment (e.g., Oktoberfest), and trips to local restaurants and museums. Residents frequently describe making friends quickly and forming a family-like atmosphere. Transportation services and scheduled outings are highlighted as important facilitators for social engagement and appointments.

Operational considerations and concerns are present but limited. Several reviewers mention staffing shortages at times, and one comment notes absence of a generator during power outages—an operational detail that prospective residents and families should verify. Price increases and long-term cost concerns are also noted by a few reviewers; others praised promotional rates and month-to-month flexibility. Emotional and practical aspects of transitioning to senior living appear in multiple reviews: residents and families note the challenge of downsizing and selling a home and emphasize the importance of staff support during that transition.

In summary, Novel Place Overland Park scores highly for location, modern facilities, cleanliness, strong management, and an active, caring staff that fosters a tight-knit resident community. The dining program and social calendar are central to life at Novel Place, driven by a highly regarded activities director and culinary team, though food preferences and meal scheduling may vary by resident and deserve clarification on a tour. Operational items to investigate before moving in include meal frequency, emergency power backup, staffing levels, and long-term pricing expectations. For many reviewers the combination of staff quality, apartment amenities (full kitchens and in-unit laundry), and abundant social opportunities make Novel Place a highly recommended and value-driven option in its market.

    About Novel Place Overland Park

Novel Place Overland Park is a newer senior living community for adults aged 55 and up, and it really shows with how the staff focus on being open and friendly and making sure everyone feels welcome and heard, and you can see that in the way the staff go through reference checks, driving record checks, and special ethics training so the people there know they're in good hands. The building itself has 134 homes, and you can pick from different floor plans like the Newport, Hampton, Clearwater, and Brighton, with layouts that include studios, one-bedroom homes with or without a den, and larger two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes, all with nice finishes, kitchen appliances, cable or satellite TV, computer rooms, and Wi-Fi, which makes the homes comfortable and helps keep residents connected. Community amenities offer a lot, with a fitness center, screened-in porch for quiet times, a bar and lounge for more social gatherings, outdoor living spaces, a garden, and plenty of room for group activities, and for those who drive or have guests visiting, there's parking, guest parking, and covered parking, plus the property is wheelchair accessible and you'll find controlled access for safety.

Meal times use the Blue Heron Dining service, with options for communal dining, room service, and guest meals, and the kitchen pays attention to nutrition with things like low salt diet choices. Residents can bring pets if they meet certain rules, and visiting pets are welcome too, which for a lot of people makes the place feel a bit more like home. The staff handle housekeeping, laundry, linen, and maintenance, and there's scheduled transportation for shopping or appointments so people who want to get out and about can do so easily. Activities range from arts and crafts, music and literary programs, to tabletop games, field trips, yoga, and even horticulture, with gathering spaces that make it easy to meet friends and join in, and there's always something going on to help stay active, social, or just have a nice chat.

Residents have choices for independent living, assisted living, memory care, continuing care, respite care, and home care, with skilled aides able to help out with basic needs like daily care and medication reminders-helpful for people as their needs change over time-and there's in-home healthcare if needed. The monthly rent covers things like meals, light housekeeping, rides, activities, and concierge services, which tends to make daily life a bit more relaxed and less stressful, and credit card payment works for those who want that. Security and comfort matter, so besides the safety checks on staff, the property holds itself to compliance standards and has recognitions such as Best of Senior Living and Best of Senior Living All Star for care and service.

Novel Place Overland Park puts a lot of focus on making life easier for people who want to stay active and independent but also need a few extra things taken care of, from cooking to laundry to fitness and social events, and there's tours for people who want to come by and see what daily life looks like, including a FAQ section and a staff with people like the executive director Shelly DeWoskin and marketing director Deborah Coda ready to answer questions. The community doesn't require people to give up all their savings to move in, and it does work to balance comfort, quality, and a social way of living for seniors who care about those things.
