    Adorable affordable unit; inconsistent service

I had a generally wonderful experience - adorable, affordable one-bedroom (~500 sq ft) that met our financial needs and felt like the right size. The staff were friendly and showed me around; my loved one is very happy and there are lots of amenities and activities (store, beauty shop, laundry, trips, big lawn). Downsides: no dining service, AC is poorly located (not in the bedroom), transportation is hard to access, and staff quality/assistance (toileting) plus entrance cleanliness and slow water-cleanup were inconsistent. Overall great value for the price.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews of City View in the Square Co-Op Apartments present a generally favorable picture for seniors seeking affordable, independent living with community amenities and a friendly resident culture. Multiple reviewers highlight the complex as a good value — low rent, apartments that met financial needs, and units described as adorable and the right size. The overall sentiment is that this is a viable option for cost-conscious seniors who want basic services, social opportunities, and convenient on-site amenities.

Facilities and apartments: The property offers a range of helpful on-site amenities that reviewers repeatedly mention as strengths: an on-site store, a beauty shop, laundry facilities, and a sizable grassy outdoor area. Units are typically one-bedroom layouts of roughly 500 square feet; many reviewers found these apartments comfortable for their needs. Notable physical drawbacks mentioned repeatedly are the absence of balconies, the placement of air conditioning units away from bedrooms (some residents would prefer AC in the bedroom), and an entrance area that some reviewers wish were cleaner. There are also adverse reports of water intrusion in at least one incident, and cleanup/repair was described as slow by those affected.

Staff, care quality, and management: Reviews about staff and management are mixed. Several comments praise staff who provided personalized tours, were knowledgeable, efficient, and helpful in placing residents. Many reviewers emphasize a welcoming atmosphere created by friendly residents and staff early on. However, a recurring theme is inconsistency: some reviewers say staff quality declined over time. The most serious care-related concern raised is about assistance with toileting — specifically discomfort with how personal hygiene is handled after bowel movements. This is an important red flag for anyone who anticipates needing intimate personal-care assistance; reviewers expressed discomfort and uncertainty about how consistently respectful or hygienic that care would be.

Activities, dining, and transportation: Social programming and activities are a clear positive for many residents: board games, outings, and a generally active senior community are frequently praised. That said, activity quality is described as variable — "hit and miss" — so prospective residents should not assume a uniformly robust calendar. Transportation and trips are offered, and some appreciate these services, but several reviews indicate that the rides can be difficult to access in practice (scheduling or availability issues). Dining services are inconsistent in the reviews: one reviewer explicitly said "dining not available," while another commented "food is alright," suggesting that meal services may be limited, optional, irregular, or available only in certain circumstances. Prospective residents should confirm the current dining arrangements and how meals are provided, if needed.

Maintenance and responsiveness: Maintenance and cleanliness are another mixed area. Positive notes about efficient staff exist, but specific issues were raised: entrance cleanliness problems and at least one incident of water intrusion with a slow cleanup response. These comments suggest variability in maintenance responsiveness; routine repairs and emergency response times may depend on staff availability or management priorities.

Value and best-fit residents: The consistent theme across reviews is that City View in the Square is an affordable, community-oriented option that meets the needs of seniors who want independent living with social opportunities and basic on-site conveniences. It appears to be especially well suited for financially constrained seniors who value community and location over luxury amenities. However, it may be less appropriate for individuals who require regular, intimate personal-care assistance (given the toileting assistance concerns), those who need guaranteed dining services, or those who want larger/luxury units, private outdoor space (balcony), and immediate maintenance response.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: Visit in person and ask to see the specific unit type you would occupy; confirm AC configuration and closet/room layouts. Ask management about current dining options, how transportation is scheduled and prioritized, and typical wait times for maintenance or water-damage remediation. If personal-care help is likely to be needed, discuss in detail how toileting and hygiene assistance are provided, who performs those tasks, and what training and privacy safeguards are in place. Finally, confirm which utilities residents are responsible for (reviews note utilities are excluded except phone, internet, and cable) so there are no surprises in monthly costs.
