    Spacious modern apartments with amenities

I'm very happy living here - spacious, modern apartments with in-unit laundry, lots of amenities (gym, library, activities) and friendly, social residents. The leasing team and staff were helpful, move-in was quick, and maintenance is usually responsive. It's great value for true independent living, though there's no on-site care or regular meals and I've seen occasional management/maintenance turnover and rare cleanliness/pest issues. Overall I love it and would recommend it for active, independent seniors.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews of Connect55 Plus Independence leans positive: many reviewers highlight clean, spacious apartments with modern kitchens, in-unit laundry, balconies, and an active, friendly community. Multiple residents specifically praise leasing and management staff members (several by name), describing them as knowledgeable, caring, and helpful during move-in and daily life. Amenities like a gym, library, billiard/activities room, and a large community room support a robust social environment for many residents. The community’s location near shopping and freeway access, safe and well-lit parking, pet-friendly policy, and perceived affordability are additional strengths noted repeatedly.

Staff and management are a central and recurring theme. Numerous reviews describe staff as personable, responsive and willing to help, with positive examples of prompt maintenance and warm introductions to other residents. Specific staff members receive strong praise, indicating that individual employees can significantly shape resident experience. However, an important counterpoint is frequent mention of management turnover and staffing changes; some reviewers report difficulty contacting management, occasional rude or ineffective on-site managers, and inconsistent leadership. This variability leads to markedly different experiences among residents — some feel very well supported, while others experience lapses in communication or service.

Facilities and apartments receive largely favorable comments. Many units are noted as bright, open, and comfortable with modern touches (dishwasher, refrigerator, washer/dryer). Balconies are valued by many residents and found across unit types, and some units are described as having generous layouts. At the same time, reviewers raise specific unit-level concerns: carpeting is common but many would prefer wood or vinyl flooring, and some carpet stains or hall carpet issues have been reported. Practical omissions such as no garbage disposal and no ice maker are mentioned. Accessibility is a mixed picture — while the complex is described as safe and accessible in parts, there are explicit reports that a power chair cannot access certain balconies and residents requested ramps.

Activities and social life are strengths for many residents: group exercises, bingo, Wii bowling, movies, puzzles, walks, and frequent daily events are cited as creating a lively social calendar. Several reviews emphasize friendly residents and a strong sense of community, with managers who know residents by name fostering connection. Conversely, some reviewers report reduced activities (particularly during the pandemic), fewer organized social opportunities, and an absence of a dedicated activity director in certain periods. This inconsistency contributes to differing impressions of community engagement depending on timing and leadership.

Dining and services: a recurring and clear limitation is the lack of regular on-site meal service. While a dining area exists and occasional meals are offered by some reports, the community fundamentally operates as independent living without daily dining programs or care services. Residents must cook or order in, and there is no assisted-care provision — an important factor for prospective residents who need higher-level support. Additionally, transportation services to stores are generally not provided, which can be inconvenient for those who do not drive.

Maintenance, building condition, and costs show mixed feedback. Many reviewers praise cleanliness and timely maintenance responses; multiple accounts describe immediate service and staff who resolve issues quickly. Other reviews, however, report maintenance delays, pest problems (roaches), property wear (potholes, some areas described as in decay), and empty apartments. Financial considerations are also mixed: many cite good value and affordable pricing, but others note rent increases, separate billing for utilities (water, internet, cable, trash, electricity) which add to monthly costs, and additional fees for garage parking. Some unit modifications (like removing carpet) may fall to residents’ expense.

In summary, Connect55 Plus Independence is often recommended by residents who appreciate the spacious, well-equipped apartments, friendly staff, active amenities, and community atmosphere. The property seems well suited to independent seniors seeking an affordable, social, and low-maintenance living situation. Prospective residents should weigh the lack of on-site dining and care services, possible accessibility limitations (particularly for mobility devices), occasional issues with management turnover or maintenance consistency, and potential extra costs for utilities and parking. The variability in experience — driven largely by staffing stability and building condition of particular units or buildings — suggests visiting in person, meeting current staff, and asking specific questions about accessibility, pest control, utility billing, and emergency plans before deciding.
