    Spacious friendly independent living pricey

I loved Redbud Commons. My spacious, well-lit apartment with a kitchen, gardening spots and walking trails - plus weight room, pool and tennis courts - made independent living feel safe, comfortable and family-like. The events calendar (ice cream socials, meet-and-greets, supper club, chair volleyball) and friendly neighbors improved my mood and health; the place is immaculate and well kept and the director and staff are wonderful. Be aware it's pricey, there are only two on-site staff and no nurses/aides or medical staff, and management is changing; I'd recommend it if you can afford independent living.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews of Redbud Commons is strongly positive. Residents and reviewers consistently highlight the community’s cleanliness, immaculate landscaping, and well-kept grounds. Apartments are described as spacious and well-lit with desirable layouts and kitchens, and many residents appreciate the size of units. The physical environment, including both indoor and outdoor amenities, receives frequent praise: a weight room and pool, tennis courts, walking trails, and gardening spots are all cited as valuable features that contribute to quality of life. The campus is non-smoking and described as safe, which reinforces the appeal for independent-living residents.

Community life and activities are another major strength emphasized in the reviews. Redbud Commons appears to offer a lively events calendar and numerous social opportunities — supper club, chair volleyball, ice cream socials, meet-and-greets, and similar events are specifically mentioned. These activities, along with friendly neighbors and a supportive, family-like atmosphere, are linked by reviewers to improved health and better mental well-being among residents. Multiple accounts indicate that the social programming and neighborly interactions are central to the positive resident experience and that people would recommend the community to others.

Staffing and management present a mixed picture. Reviewers praise the staff overall and specifically note a wonderful director who is well regarded by residents. At the same time, there are consistent concerns about limited staffing levels: one summary explicitly mentions only two staff members and multiple summaries note there are no nurses or aides on site. This aligns with the community’s independent-living focus — there is no on-site medical staff — which is acceptable and even desirable for many independent residents but is an important limitation for those who require assisted living or nursing care. An upcoming change in management is also mentioned, which introduces some uncertainty; while the current director receives good feedback, the impending management transition has the potential to affect operations or resident experience going forward.

Cost is a clear area of concern for some reviewers. Several summaries describe Redbud Commons as expensive or unaffordable, indicating that while the facilities and community are attractive, the price point may put it out of reach for certain prospective residents. Combined with limited medical staffing, the cost factor makes it important for prospective residents to carefully match their care needs and budget to what Redbud Commons is designed to provide.

In summary, the reviews portray Redbud Commons as a well-maintained, amenity-rich independent living community with a strong sense of camaraderie and active programming that supports resident well-being. The staff and director are viewed positively, and the campus features — spacious apartments, landscaping, and multiple recreational options — are consistently praised. The chief caveats are affordability, minimal on-site medical care, and reports of very limited staffing levels, plus an upcoming management change that should be monitored. For seniors seeking an independent, socially active, and well-cared-for living environment, Redbud Commons appears to be highly recommended; for those who need daily medical support or a lower-cost option, it may not be the right fit.

    About Redbud Commons

Redbud Commons sits near the intersection of Diley Road and State Route 256 and has 95 single-story luxury apartments for people 55 and older, so folks won't have to worry about stairs, and every apartment has its own attached garage and private walk-up entrance, which makes coming and going easy, and the homes include one or two bedrooms with open floor plans, no steps, wide doorways, walk-in showers with grab bars, and other Universal Design features that help with accessibility, while high ceilings, big windows, and modern finishes like granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and hardwood floors make things bright and comfortable. The apartments come with patios or balconies, washer/dryer hook-ups, individual climate control, air conditioning, generous storage including big pantries, and are pet-friendly for up to two dogs and two cats. There's a focus on community without being pushy, so people can join residents' clubs, hobby groups, game nights, fitness classes, dinners, and events, or just enjoy quiet time in shared spaces like the club room, billiards and bourbon lounge, co-working and business center, WiFi Cafe, community kitchen, or out on the patio with a barbecue grill and fire pit, and there are community gardens and a dog park outside too, while the clubhouse also has a fitness center with both cardio and strength equipment. Redbud Commons is set on a large 26-acre lot with plenty of green space and direct access to walking trails that connect right out to nearby parks like Pickerington Ponds Metro Park, Georges Creek, or Olde Pickerington Village for those who want nature or a short trip to shops and restaurants, and the energy-efficient design means folks don't waste a lot on bills either. You won't find meals or healthcare services provided, so people pay for housing and utilities only, with maintenance and 24/7 concierge always available if ever needed, and a community director and on-site management take care of daily needs or events. The place has won awards, including the 2020 Best of 55+ Housing Awards Gold Award for the Best Market-Rate Rental Community, and it shares a design approach similar to Hawthorne Commons but with a few touches specific to Pickerington, making it a good option for folks wanting to downsize but keep a bit of independence in a place built for comfort and ease.
