    Spacious clean cottages; excellent staff

I toured this nearly-new community and moved my mother in - she loves it. The cottages/apartments are well-designed, very clean and spacious (~1,000 sq ft) with full kitchens, covered porches and attached garages. Staff are amazing and responsive, utilities and cable are included, and maintenance handles minor issues quickly. There's no on-site dining or assisted living (only occasional catered luncheons and pay-your-own outings); the clubhouse is still finishing so activities are just ramping up but a monthly schedule exists. Great value and very walkable to stores and medical services.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is strongly positive. Reviewers consistently highlight that Emerald Cottages of New Braunfels is a recently built, well-planned independent living community with attractive, spacious cottages and thoughtful design features. Units are described as large (around 1,000 sq ft), clean, comfortable, and well-designed with full kitchens in every unit, one-level living, covered porches, and attached garages. The community’s new construction and pleasant surroundings are repeatedly noted, and several reviewers called it affordable and good value for the monthly rate.

Staff and service quality receive frequent praise. Multiple reviewers used terms like "awesome," "amazing," and "helpful" to describe the staff, emphasizing that touring experiences were excellent and that staff members took time to answer questions and assist prospective residents and families. Maintenance is available and responsive according to reviews, although a few minor issues (smoke alarms and a water dispenser) were mentioned. Utilities and cable being included was noted by some as a desirable value factor.

Dining and meals are a clear and consistent theme: this is an independent-living community without an on-site cafeteria or regular in-house dining service. Instead, the community provides a monthly catered meal and occasional luncheons or potlucks. There are weekly pay-your-own meals (and an option to purchase lunch at the clubhouse weekly) and monthly restaurant outings. Reviewers appreciated the occasional shared meals and social dining opportunities, but the absence of a full dining program or prepared daily meals is a limitation for those who want dining included.

Activities and community life are highlighted as active and varied. Reviewers mention many activities, a monthly activity schedule, and an active clubhouse. However, a recurring caveat is that the clubhouse/community center was under construction at the time of several reviews, which delayed or limited activities for some residents; a few reviewers noted that family members (e.g., parents) were not yet participating in activities. Once the community center is complete, the expectation from reviewers is that activities will be robust and more fully realized.

Location and convenience are strong positives: the cottages are within walking distance of stores and services, close to grocery stores and medical offices, and generally situated for convenience. The combination of independent living with nearby amenities was viewed favorably by families and prospective residents.

The main limitations that emerge across reviews are factual and practical rather than service-quality complaints. The community is independent living only, so there is no assisted living or transition option onsite — an important consideration for people who may need higher levels of care in the future. The lack of an on-site dining program and the pay-your-own weekly meals were noted as downsides for some. Additionally, as the community was still finishing its clubhouse in several reports, some activity programming and social opportunities were not yet fully available at the time of those reviews.

In summary, Emerald Cottages of New Braunfels is portrayed as a new, well-designed, and affordable independent-living community with spacious cottages, full kitchens, and a friendly, responsive staff. It scores highly for location, cleanliness, and value. Prospective residents should be aware that dining is limited to occasional catered meals and pay-your-own options, there is no assisted living transition onsite, and some amenities/activities may be temporarily constrained while the clubhouse/community center construction is completed. For independent seniors who prioritize space, autonomy, and a supportive staff in a walkable location, the reviews portray Emerald Cottages as a very attractive option.

About Emerald Cottages of New Braunfels

Emerald Cottages of New Braunfels is a senior living community at 3025 Oak Run Parkway, right in New Braunfels, Texas, and it has 72 private cottage homes designed for independent seniors who want a little more space without having to worry about home maintenance, and it's part of a group of care providers in the area, sitting close to places like Brookdale New Braunfels and Mercy House New Braunfels, so families have options when comparing care. These cottage homes are less than three years old, with one and two-bedroom layouts, each with oversized-attached garages, full kitchens with tile backsplashes and stainless-steel appliances, granite countertops, washers and dryers, and big walk-in closets, and homes feature zero-threshold walk-in showers for easy access, dual vanities, and some have raised ceilings and garden tubs, plus there are 36-inch doors and other safety features to help with disabilities or mobility issues, including sprinkler systems. Residents get to enjoy a maintenance-free lifestyle, with pet-friendly policies in many cottages, and they use their own kitchens, though there's at least one meal a week organized for the community that folks pay for on their own, and sometimes there are catered events.

There's a clubhouse at the center of things, meant for daily activities except on weekends, and an activity director oversees offerings like social gatherings, arts and crafts, education classes, and wellness programs, and monthly events let seniors meet and get to know their neighbors, so folks have a chance to stay active and connected. Amenities also include a fitness center, games room, salon, guest parking, internet, and spaces meant for both relaxing and socializing, and there are handicap-accessible bathrooms, wood and ceramic tile flooring, and faux wood blinds on the windows. Staff provide support like walking or wheelchair assistance and help with daily routines if needed, but the main style here is independent living, aiming to keep seniors as self-reliant as possible, though there are also options for assisted living, memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, respite care, continuing care, and even care homes or home care with companions for those who want or need more support.

Prospective residents and their families can set up tours to see cottages firsthand, meet staff, check out the clubhouse, and get straight information about availability and pricing, plus there's an online system with a map and forms to help people get the details they need. While the cottages themselves don't have every type of medical service onsite, the community points people to disability support, help with navigating benefits, educational and job services, and counseling, and they're part of a larger network in New Braunfels, which shares resources aimed at making life easier for seniors and their caregivers. There's no flashy atmosphere or high-pressure pitch here, just comfortable, thoughtfully designed homes and a steady calendar of events so residents can live at their own pace, enjoy their hobbies, and count on a little help when life gets difficult.
