    Clean, convenient apartments with caveats

I toured the beautiful, clean apartments across from the Wauwatosa police station and I'm planning to reserve one. The units are fresh with good-sized rooms and a large closet (no linen closet by the bathroom); some have in-unit washer/dryers and there's an on-site laundry ($1.50). Heat and electric are included, the parking garage is nice, and it's convenient to Mayfair Mall, banks and restaurants - though there's a lot of construction nearby and shopping access felt mixed. Fitness-room availability was unclear.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the review summaries for Cedar Glen is positive, with multiple mentions that the apartments are clean, fresh and visually appealing. Several reviewers highlight that units are "beautiful" and "look really good," and at least one person indicated an intention to reserve, signaling real interest from prospects. The core strengths cited are apartment condition, closet/storage size, utilities included in rent, and the availability of on-site laundry and a nice parking garage.

Apartment features and in-home amenities are a prominent theme. Reviews consistently note good-sized rooms and large closets, which are practical benefits for residents. However, a specific drawback mentioned is the lack of a linen closet near the bathroom in some units, which could affect storage convenience. There is also variation across units: some apartments come with an in-unit washer and dryer while others do not. On-site laundry is available and inexpensive at $1.50 per load, and utilities (heat and electric) are included, reducing monthly variable expenses for residents.

Location and external environment show both strengths and weaknesses. Several summaries emphasize a convenient location near Mayfair Mall, banks, restaurants and other businesses, and point out that the property is across from the Wauwatosa police station. These are practical conveniences that support day-to-day living and safety perceptions. Contradictorily, one summary said the property was "not close to shopping," so there is inconsistent perception among reviewers about how walkable or close shopping truly is — this could reflect differing expectations or compare different entrances/sidewalk routes. Another consistent external concern is that there is "lots of construction nearby," which may affect noise, access, and short-term quality of life for new residents.

Common-area amenities and management details are not fully clear from the summaries. The parking garage was described positively, but reviewers were uncertain about a fitness room — some summaries note the "fitness room existence unclear," so it's not confirmed whether a gym is present or available to residents. There is also a mention of "apartment placement," which suggests some uncertainty about how units are assigned or where prospective residents will be placed; details about leasing, move-in scheduling, or placement policies were not provided in the summaries. Staff, care quality, dining, activities, and property management performance are not discussed in the provided reviews, so no conclusions can be drawn about those aspects based on the available information.

Patterns and recommendations based on these summaries: Cedar Glen appears to offer attractive, clean apartments with included heat and electric, affordable laundry, and useful parking — features that make it appealing to prospects. However, there are notable information gaps and a few practical drawbacks that prospective residents should verify before committing: confirm whether the specific unit under consideration has an in-unit washer/dryer, whether a linen closet is included or where bathroom storage is located, whether a fitness room exists and is accessible, and ask about current construction timeline and expected impact. Because reviewers gave mixed impressions about proximity to shopping, visit the neighborhood in person or ask management for details about nearby retail and pedestrian access. Finally, since there is little or no information in these summaries about staff, activities, dining, or management responsiveness, ask the leasing office or current residents about living experience, community programming, and property management practices to get a more complete picture.

    About Cedar Glen

Cedar Glen Senior Apartments sits at 1661 River's Bend Lane in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee, and offers 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments for people 55 and older who are looking for affordable, age-restricted housing; the building, made with wood framing above an underground parking garage, opened in 2012 and covers about 71,500 square feet, and while it's a newer place with clean halls and big closets, the property used to be a gravel quarry and a spot for construction rubble back in the 1950s, so that's an interesting bit of history there. Residents at Cedar Glen have a few choices depending on their needs-some live independently while others might use assisted living, skilled nursing, or memory care, especially if they're living with conditions like Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, and the staff gets specially trained for those challenges. The apartments come with their own appliances, controlled heat and air conditioning, decent-sized walk-in closets in some units, washers and dryers available either in the unit or on-site for $1.50 per load, and each place has either a patio or balcony for some fresh air, plus there's free Wi-Fi, all smoke-free building and grounds, and the rent covers heat, water, and local municipal services. People who live here get access to outdoor gardens, walking paths, and plenty of spots to sit, and indoors there are several community spaces like a club room, a kitchen, a library, a business center, and an activity room, so there's always somewhere to go for coffee chats, game nights, catered dinners, or just reading a book in a quiet place. Cedar Glen is pet-friendly and allows both cats and dogs, so folks who want to bring a furry friend have that option, and for people who drive, there's underground parking and a well-kept parking garage, but public transit is also nearby for those who'd rather not get behind the wheel. The place tries to give residents both comfort and security, with features like controlled entry, responsive 24-hour emergency maintenance, and extra storage if you need it; the management and on-site team keep things running, and there's a beautician who visits for those wanting some grooming or personal care. Friends and family can join residents in the dining area at mealtimes, and a schedule of social, educational, and recreational activities is posted regularly to help keep everyone interested and engaged, though no place gets everything right for every person. Cedar Glen offers services like home care and companionship for those who need a little help in their daily lives, plus assisted services for bathing, dressing, and medication, along with specialized memory care for those with dementia, all in a setting that tries to balance dignity, independence, and peace of mind. The property's history of leasing up quickly and its mix of funding sources like Section 42 tax credits and county and federal money show it was planned as an affordable place for seniors, and with a rating of 3.0 from four reviews, it seems people have mixed feelings, but for someone looking for active, pet-friendly, and maintenance-free senior living with options for care as you need them, it offers a range of possibilities and amenities to fit different lifestyles.
