    Small house-like memory care, compassionate

I placed my mom here and I'm very pleased - it's a small, house-like memory care with clean, open single-floor spaces, caring professional staff who know residents by name, excellent meals (and cookies!), and lots of activities that keep people engaged. Staff communicate well about medical needs, nursing updates and COVID precautions, and placement was quick with a reasonable locked six-month rate. Be aware of occasional billing/EFT glitches, some staff turnover and reported contract/price pressure after ownership changes - ask direct questions on billing and management when you tour.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is largely positive about the hands-on, day-to-day care provided at Volante of Arlington Heights, with substantial and repeated praise directed at the direct care staff. Many reviewers describe staff as caring, kind, attentive and personable — noting that caregivers dote on residents, know them by name, and give individualized attention for dressing, bathing and toileting. Multiple comments highlight that residents look well cared for (well dressed, engaged, active) and that family members feel relieved and comfortable leaving loved ones there. The community’s small, family-like atmosphere and single-floor, house-like memory care layout are repeatedly cited as strengths that support resident comfort and social connection.

Facility upkeep and environment receive consistently positive remarks: reviewers describe the building as very clean, modern and decluttered, with an open floor plan that is easy to navigate. Housekeeping and presentation of common areas are noted positively, and several reviewers commented that the facility feels welcoming for residents and families. Activities programming is a clear strong point — reviewers cite a broad variety of daily options (exercise, movies, art projects, games, family nights) that keep residents engaged and socially active. Dining is frequently praised (some calling the food fabulous or outstanding), with a few mentions of picky eaters becoming more interested in meals; however a small number of reviews also criticized a perceived drop in food quality.

Clinical quality and resident safety were generally described favorably in the reviews: knowledgeable directors, proactive infection-control measures (COVID precautions), attentive nursing communication, and an available visiting physician were specifically mentioned. Many families described quick placements with no waiting list and appreciation for staff who kept them informed, used FaceTime, and handled care logistics. Several reviews highlight that the caregivers took charge of daily needs and alleviated family stress, allowing relatives to sleep better and feel confident in the level of care.

Despite these strengths, there is a notable and recurring cluster of concerns related to management, billing and corporate practices. Multiple reviewers reported management turnover and an apparent decline in the community after new ownership or leadership changes — characterizing newer managers as less caring or "clueless" compared with prior leadership. Billing glitches, difficulties establishing EFT payments, and disputes over contracts and pricing were raised repeatedly; some reviewers even used language such as "deceptive business practices," "pressure to sign a new contract," and reported substantial rent hikes or disputes over all-inclusive pricing. These administrative and financial issues have been significant enough in some cases to prompt families to move residents out.

Operational issues are otherwise mixed: while many reviews commend accessibility of directors and responsiveness, others say corporate leadership is disengaged or communication is lacking. Short-staffing was mentioned by a few reviewers, though usually accompanied by praise for staff effort and dedication despite workload challenges. A small number of administrative issues were also raised (medication refill errors, isolated safety concerns about valuables), and one reviewer noted that the community was not the right fit for their loved one.

In summary, the dominant themes are strong, compassionate front-line care, a clean and welcoming environment, active programming, and a small-community feel that families appreciate. The principal risks or caveats for prospective residents and families are administrative and management instability, occasional billing/contract disputes, and some reports of declining leadership or food quality after ownership changes. Prospective families should prioritize an in-person visit and ask specific questions about current management stability, billing policies and contract terms, staffing levels and recent leadership changes to confirm that the community’s strong hands-on care culture is being supported by stable administration and transparent business practices.
