West End Place

West End Place, also called Independence Center West End Place, sits at 4245 Forest Park Ave in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis and you'll find it's an old brick single-family home that was built in 1902 and updated in 1912, and it's got two stories, an attic, and one bathroom, plus there's granite countertops, a modern kitchen, hardwood floors, storage lockers, and gated off-street parking, and you can bring one cat as a pet. The booking system lets you choose how many people per room, from one up to eight adults and kids, and you can say how old children are when you book, or keep the dates flexible if you need, and every guest gets their own apartment with privacy, and you can have up to three rooms per person but never more than eight people in a room. The place focuses on hospitality and lodging, but it's also known for many community and mental health programs, helping people with chronic mental illness, and it's owned by Independence Care Center, which supports people with things like psychiatric help, crisis intervention, job finding help, adoption support, and has programs in mental wellness and early childhood education, including Emerson Academy for kids and community work for teenagers and families. If you need help, there are apartments like the Laclede & Sarah Apartments and Lohmeyer Apartments, both with about twenty units and different levels of staff support, plus Jane Howell Stupp Apartments and Newstead Place, which offer 24-hour staff, meals, help with medication, and care for folks coming out of psychiatric settings. The community treats each resident with dignity and respect, lets everyone decorate their space, and promotes independent living, plus they're friendly to the LGBTQ+ community and offer legal protection based on gender identity and orientation. The center always has a 100% occupancy rate in its housing programs, does routine equipment inspections by staff like Mitchell McNeely and others, and has inspections every year. There are programs like the Wellness Program, Community Support, Healthcare Home service, and the Clubhouse Model, which helps people build self-esteem and find real jobs, and the Clubhouse Shop supports the community by selling gently used furniture, clothing, and more. Everything's set up to support independent skills, mental health, and community living, and there are even plans for a bigger senior living complex in the future.
