    About Joliet Terrace

Joliet Terrace is a specialized care facility designed to support adults who are managing chronic physical or mental illness, with particular expertise in serving individuals who have complex, dual diagnoses. The center focuses on providing comprehensive, highly individualized custodial care to residents who are unable to care for themselves, primarily due to mental health concerns. Recognizing that these challenges can often be compounded by circumstances such as substance abuse or other additional diagnoses, the care model at Joliet Terrace is tailored to respond to the unique needs of every resident.

Residents of Joliet Terrace are accommodated in a spacious, ranch-style center that fosters a homelike environment. The facility features semi-private rooms and tastefully appointed accommodations to promote comfort and dignity. In addition to essential services such as meals, laundry, and housekeeping, Joliet Terrace provides a range of amenities including beauty and barber services, on-site religious programs, and community engagement opportunities. The presence of a transportation van makes it possible for residents to participate in a variety of community outings, supporting both social interaction and the maintenance of connections beyond the facility.

A key component of the wellness approach at Joliet Terrace is its award-winning Life Skills Program, which is designed to foster independence and prepare residents for discharge when possible. Developed by a dedicated leadership team, the program initially featured modules on seven key competencies necessary for more autonomous living. This robust educational series has since been expanded to include six additional modules, offering residents enhanced opportunities in areas such as G.E.D. preparation and health literacy. The Life Skills Program reflects Joliet Terrace’s commitment to continuously evolving its programming to meet residents’ mental health and practical preparation needs.

Joliet Terrace also supports the continued professional development of its staff and associated professionals through a series of online continuing education programs. These programs provide credits for social workers, nurses, nurse case managers, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. For example, their two-part webinar series has addressed timely topics such as compassion, fatigue, and self-care during challenging periods like the pandemic, ensuring staff are well-equipped to address both the physical and emotional needs of residents.

With daily monitoring and a collaborative workplace culture, Joliet Terrace has achieved recognition as a Great Place to Work for 2024-2025. The interdisciplinary team at the facility is committed to delivering effective, empathetic, and innovative care in a welcoming setting, empowering residents with hope, strength, growth, and freedom as they navigate their individual paths to wellness.
