    Generally good rehab with caveats

I had an overall positive rehab stay - therapists, physicians and many nurses were excellent, rooms and grounds were beautiful, and housekeeping and most support staff were attentive. Dining was often very good (chef and variety praised), though meals and preferences were inconsistently handled. My concerns: administrative staff felt money-focused, there were early medication errors, weekend staffing shortages, occasional unhelpful or rushed aides, and a few safety/cleanliness lapses. I'd recommend it for rehab and attentive care, but advise close oversight and caution because experiences here vary widely.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across these review summaries is mixed but leans positive in the areas of rehabilitation, many frontline staff members, facility amenities, and the physical environment. The most consistent strength is the clinical rehabilitation program: physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy are repeatedly praised for knowledge, effectiveness, goal-setting, and helping residents regain strength and return home. Multiple reviewers credited therapy staff with measurable recovery, increased mobility, and improved confidence to go back home. Several therapists and therapy teams were singled out by name and described as friendly, effective, and supportive.

Nursing and caregiving receive varied reports. A substantial number of reviewers describe nursing and aide staff as attentive, caring, professional, and willing to go above and beyond — in some accounts staff procured special equipment, stayed beyond shifts, or provided extra personal attention. Names like Amal, Jeff, Q, Nick, Amy, Vickie, and others were specifically praised. These reviewers often note clean, comfortable rooms, daily housekeeping, and responsive management when issues are raised. Many families report reduced worry thanks to the care their loved ones receive and would recommend the facility for sub-acute rehab and short-term stays.

However, there are important and recurring concerns around inconsistency. Multiple reviewers report variable nursing and aide quality across shifts, with some days or shifts staffed by excellent caregivers and others where staff are perceived as rushed, annoyed, or unhelpful. Medication management problems were reported, including early medication errors and inconsistent schedules. Several reviewers noted frequent staff turnover or seeing new nurses every shift, and weekend staffing shortages that can affect care continuity. A few reviewers explicitly said the administration felt money-focused or lacked compassion, and some families felt pushed to discharge against their wishes.

Dining and housekeeping impressions are mixed. Many reviewers praise the food — citing good-tasting meals, plenty of portions, and accommodating kitchen staff — and call out specific food service employees for exceptional service. Conversely, other reviewers describe poor meals, ignored food preferences, insubstantial dinner items, and unhappiness with the cuisine. Cleanliness is likewise mostly praised, with daily housekeeping and clean rooms noted, but there are isolated but serious reports of lapses (dried food or vomit observed). These mixed reports suggest variability by unit, shift, or time period rather than facility-wide uniformity.

Facility, amenities, and environment are generally strong points. Numerous reviewers mention beautiful, landscaped grounds, an upgraded or elegant facility design, and a range of amenities including a rehab workout room, beauty salon, gift shop, ice cream socials, exercise room, movie theater, and bus outings. Transport coordination for appointments is noted positively. Some reviewers report updated rooms with flat-screen TVs and refrigerators, courtyard views, and comfortable accommodations. That said, a few reviewers described dated rooms or inconsistencies between rooms.

There are also notable operational and safety concerns that cannot be overlooked. Several reviews describe HVAC issues (broken air conditioning, air problems affecting breathing, and long waits for portable fans), unheated winter bus transport, and slow responses to call buttons in some cases. Most critically, a small number of reviews report severe incidents: patients left unattended during bleeding, alleged abandonment by nurses, involuntary discharges followed by patient death, and other events suggesting lapses in safety or oversight. These reports are relatively rare in quantity compared with the many positive accounts, but they are serious in nature and indicate potential risk areas that should be investigated and addressed by leadership.

In summary, Pomeroy Living Rochester Skilled Rehabilitation receives strong, repeated praise for rehabilitation services, many compassionate caregivers, attractive grounds, and solid amenities. Many families report excellent outcomes, responsive admissions and housekeeping, and staff who go beyond expectations. At the same time, there is a consistent theme of unevenness in care quality — especially across nursing shifts and weekends — along with isolated but serious safety concerns, occasional medication and cleanliness issues, problems with HVAC/transport, and perceptions of administrative emphasis on finances. Prospective residents and families should weigh the clearly strong rehabilitation and amenity offerings against the reported variability in nursing continuity and the rare but significant safety-related complaints. If considering this facility, ask specific questions about nursing continuity, weekend staffing, medication management protocols, incident reporting, HVAC maintenance, and how the facility addresses and learns from adverse events.

About Pomeroy Living Rochester Skilled Rehabilitation

Pomeroy Living Rochester Skilled Rehabilitation offers skilled nursing and intermediate care for people who depend on nursing staff for their day-to-day needs, and the place is really meant for both short-term stays when someone needs help between the hospital and home, and for those who need longer stays due to serious health problems or being very frail, and it's got a team on-site 24 hours a day who handle rehabilitation and ongoing nursing care. The facility provides care after things like surgery, bad illness, or events like strokes, and you'll find physical, occupational, and speech therapy available, plus respiratory therapy and help for orthopedic needs. Pomeroy Living Rochester Skilled Rehabilitation has its own medical facilities right there so people don't have to leave the building for many common needs, which can be a relief for those who aren't able to move easily, and it also offers outpatient rehabilitation with some restrictions for those who come from the community. The therapists here come up with a care plan for each person based on what they need, and staff can help with daily chores and also more complicated care if people need it, so everyone gets some help staying as independent as they can. They offer shared and private apartments, and some apartments are described as high-end for those who want a little more comfort, and the cooking staff works out menus for each resident depending on their health and dietary needs which is good when someone needs a special diet to stay well. People living here can take part in daily activities and events, which helps keep things lively and gives everyone a chance to connect, and there's a real focus on making it feel cozy and welcoming. The memory care community inside the building is run by staff who know how to help people with memory problems, and the whole place is part of the larger Pomeroy Living's group of senior care services. The goal is for everyone to get the right mix of rehab and help with living, so no one's left out whether they're coming in for a short time to recover or staying on for the long haul.
