Grace Living Center - Norman sits in a spot designed to help older adults live as well as possible, and you'll find services for short-term stays after things like surgeries and for long-term care when folks need help every day, and there's licensed nursing staff on hand, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, looking after health needs around the clock. The building has 136 certified beds and about 114 residents, and you'll see it covers all the basics, like a full sprinkler system for safety, daily laundry and housekeeping, and transportation for doctor's visits when needed, and although there's some confusion about certain details, it's not a special focus facility or a continuing care retirement community, but operates as a for-profit place that takes both Medicare and Medicaid.
Residents have choices between private and semi-private rooms, many with private bathrooms, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and small kitchenettes, plus there's common rooms and outdoor walking paths for fresh air, and a garden space where folks relax or visit, and several indoor areas like an arts room, game room, library, and fitness room for different hobbies and movement if someone feels like joining in. Housekeeping and laundry happen daily, and there are active resident and family councils, so families and residents can talk about concerns and activities together, and there is a medical director overseeing care along with certified physical, occupational, and speech therapists for those needing rehab or extra support after illness or injury.
The dining situation tries to meet special dietary needs too, with allergy-sensitive choices, diabetic meal options, and even a special rotation and grill menu, all under the watch of registered dietitians, so folks can eat either in the dining room or have meals in their rooms if they prefer privacy, and there's always church services and clergy visits if anyone wants to talk or pray. The activities program stays busy with everything from STEM projects, arts and crafts, and group puzzles, to music, games, "wake and shake" morning exercise, movie nights, ice cream socials, and even playground parties and adventures with "grand friends," often thanks to a unique partnership with Norman Public Schools, where kids and residents meet up daily for book buddies and story writing, which really gets everyone sharing and smiling together.
Medical support goes pretty far here-there's wound care, IV therapy, respiratory care, help for diabetes, heart conditions, and catheter or colostomy needs, plus support for anyone who can't walk without help, with medication management and supervision for bathing, dressing, and moving around. The place keeps a 24-hour call system in place, and nursing care is available 12-16 hours a day for problems that might come up, and there's supervision for every step, whether someone needs help transferring in and out of bed, or just a watchful eye on health changes. Grace Living Center does stick to making things as supportive as possible, and while a server problem means some information isn't available, the staff works to keep things comfortable and safe, and the occupancy rate usually hovers around 84%, so it's not usually crowded and there's a little room if someone new wants to join.
