    Caring small home, excellent care

I highly recommend this small (10-resident), family-like home - the caring, knowledgeable staff (RN on-site) provided personalized, dignified care and supported our loved one through end-of-life. It's clean, warm, activity-filled with good food and excellent communication, though it is higher than average in cost.

    About Jewel Lake Assisted Living

Jewel Lake Assisted Living sits out along the tranquil shores of Jewel Lake, about 5.7 miles outside Anchorage, Alaska, and the setting is nice and peaceful with room for just 10 residents so everyone gets more attention and the staff know what's happening with who, so there's a warm, homey atmosphere inside the single-story building and out in the gardens. This small community covers both assisted living and memory care, so seniors who still like their independence but need help with things like medication, getting dressed, or moving around, can get what they need, and those with memory problems like Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia have their own area with safeties in place like alarm bracelets and staff awake at all hours. The facility's got wheelchair access everywhere, has a sectioned swimming area for folks who want to swim, an outdoor courtyard, and indoor spaces for activities and just talking, plus residents can have their pets with them.

Jewel Lake Assisted Living has studio and one-bedroom rooms, so whether a person wants more privacy or just a little space, there's a choice, and rooms might have their own kitchenettes. They handle all sorts of personal care help, from reminders for bathing and eating to help with transfers, handling insulin, and dealing with incontinence. Nurses and caregivers-including CNAs with CPR and background clearances-are on staff and can do high-acuity and medical needs, working alongside doctors and therapists if needed. There's always someone awake to help during the night. For folks who need it, the facility can provide hospice care, respite care for families needing a short-term break, diabetes support, help with behavioral challenges, and care for those prone to wandering or with elopement risk. Memory care is in its own building, with extra security and programming to keep residents safe and comfortable.

The daily life at Jewel Lake includes fresh meals with choices for different preferences and needs, like kosher and vegetarian food. Regular activities range from stretching classes, karaoke, and cooking classes, to outings, trivia games, movies, spiritual gatherings, and trips to parks or out in the Anchorage area. They set up transportation for appointments, visits, or group events, and residents usually enjoy the walking paths by the lake and garden. The place encourages everyone to spend time outside if they want. There are some reliable nearby services too, with churches, eateries, pharmacies, and health providers like the Fresenius Kidney Care center and St. Elias Specialty Hospital close at hand.

Jewel Lake Assisted Living is monitored by state authorities, has a history of compliance, and offers a range of amenities expected for a senior care home, plus a few extras for those who want to keep active and social while receiving care that adapts if their needs change. The verified reviews on SeniorAdvisor.com show a 4.5-star experience, though resident scores can vary. The goal here is to give both care and peace of mind, and it comes through with small size and close connections, providing people a comfortable, supportive place to live as they age.
