    Small tranquil home caring staff

I'm very pleased with this small, beautiful, tranquil home - clean, welcoming, and conveniently close to downtown Phoenix. The staff are genuinely caring, professional, and family-like; meds, vitals and coordination are reliable and the owner is responsive. Meals and snacks are good, but watch texture for swallowing; there were occasional lapses (eye-drop help, an unauthorized haircut, some language barriers and limited activities) that improved after owner involvement. I feel safe and comfortable here and would highly recommend, though I'd like more social/therapy options as I await rehab to regain leg strength.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews present a predominantly positive view of Heaven Can Wait as a small, home-like senior living community with strong strengths in cleanliness, hospitality, safety, and individualized attention. Multiple reviewers highlight the facility’s welcoming atmosphere, tranquil rural setting with attractive ambiance, and proximity to downtown Phoenix as distinct positives. The environment is repeatedly described as clean, pleasant-smelling, and beautiful, creating a calm and comfortable setting for residents.

Care quality and clinical oversight: Clinical care elements receive consistent praise. Families report medications are given on time, vitals are checked regularly, and there is effective coordination with emergency/ICU services when required. The presence and contribution of the VA care team to hygiene and intake monitoring is noted as a helpful addition for certain residents. These factors combine to create a perception of reliability in medical and safety-related aspects of care. At the same time, reviews point to specific gaps in hands-on personal care — for example, lack of assistance with eye drops and reports of residents remaining in bed — which suggests variability in the breadth of daily living assistance provided.

Staff and management: Staff are described repeatedly as caring, respectful, patient, and family-like. Several reviewers strongly recommend the staff and praise their professionalism and genuine concern for residents. There is mention of long-tenured staff and residents, which implies stability and continuity of care. Owner and management receive positive mentions for being helpful, flexible, and responsive; one review notes that staff performance improved after owner involvement, indicating active management oversight. However, there are also comments about staff being particular or rigid in how they provide care and about language barriers that can complicate communication with some residents and families.

Dining and nutrition: Food quality is generally seen as a strength — reviewers mention good meals and available snacks. However, a notable concern is that meals are not always prepared to meet specific texture needs (pureed or chopped) for residents with swallowing difficulties. This is an important clinical and safety-related detail that suggests the kitchen may need to be more consistent in accommodating therapeutic diets or special feeding requirements.

Activities, social life, and resident mix: Multiple reviews indicate that the community is smaller and quieter, with long-tenured residents and many who are not fully functioning. While some residents are described as sociable and the setting as resident-friendly, several reviewers identify a lack of stimulation and limited activities. The community’s quieter nature and higher-acuity resident population appear to reduce opportunities for robust social programming; reviewers explicitly request more activities to increase engagement and mobility.

Mobility and rehabilitation: There are specific mentions of residents awaiting therapy to improve leg strength and wanting to walk or shower independently. Combined with comments about residents staying in bed, these points suggest rehabilitation services or mobilization programs may be insufficiently proactive or timely for some residents. Ensuring access to consistent therapy and activity programs would address a frequently cited gap.

Communication and safety incidents: Most feedback about safety is positive, emphasizing a secure environment and rapid emergency care when needed. Nevertheless, isolated incidents — such as an unauthorized haircut — and language barriers reveal areas where communication, consent, and staff training/oversight could be tightened. The fact that staff performance is described as having improved after owner intervention implies management responsiveness but also indicates prior lapses that concerned families.

Overall balance and recommendations implied by reviews: Heaven Can Wait appears to offer a warm, clean, and clinically reliable environment with caring staff and attentive management, especially valued for medication management, vitals monitoring, and emergency responsiveness. Its small, home-like setting and scenic location are strong selling points. The main areas needing attention are specialized personal care tasks (eye-drop assistance, feeding for swallowing issues), proactive rehabilitation/mobility programs, more stimulating activities and social programming, and clearer communication to overcome language barriers and prevent isolated care coordination errors. Addressing those specific issues would align the community’s strong interpersonal care and pleasant environment with a more comprehensive, consistently applied spectrum of resident services.

    About Heaven Can Wait

Heaven Can Wait sits quietly at the base of South Mountain, surrounded by 1.7 acres of desert landscape with a western sort of peacefulness. The home has space for up to 10 residents, with 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms spread across a single-story, 3,500 square foot layout, designed so wheelchairs can move about easily-there aren't any steps to worry about. Each private room comes furnished, with its own flat-screen TV, cable, Wi-Fi, and great views, along with large windows for watching wildlife or the mountain and wireless nurse call systems if anyone needs help. The living room has big picture windows looking toward South Mountain, a good spot for relaxing or visiting with others. There's a wrap-around patio with a calming water feature and a stream, plus a garden where residents can try some light gardening or just look out for birds and other creatures in the sun.

Compassionate State Certified Caregivers work around the clock, and there's an on-site licensed nurse, immediate help for things like bathing, dressing, and moving, and state-supervised care focused on daily living needs. The home's licensed for up to 10 residents and its license is active through April 2025 (License Number AL9371H), with regular state inspections and oversight. There are both assisted living and Board and Care Home options, and staff can coordinate with outside health care providers if needed. There's an in-house doctor, nurse, and pharmacy, plus medication management and administration always available. The place allows non-ambulatory care, so those who use wheelchairs or need more help can get it.

Here, residents share home-cooked meals in a group dining area three times a day, and snacks are always available too. Special meal considerations are made for allergies or diabetes. There's daily housekeeping, fresh linen and in-home laundry service, and even dry cleaning pick-up, so people don't have to fuss with chores. Community amenities like a hair stylist, manicurist, and movie nights give things a homelike touch, and there's always a full calendar of exercise, crafts, gardening, and social activities if residents want to join in. Residents can enjoy telephone service in their rooms and access to community walking paths. Smoking is allowed, but only in designated areas outside.

The home has 24-hour security, grounds surveillance, and an emergency alert system, so people stay safe day and night. The environment is kept clean, and pets are welcome. The atmosphere is quiet, family-style, with a high staff-to-resident ratio, giving everyone lots of attention and a feeling of safety. Heaven Can Wait doesn't accept Medicare as payment and isn't certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, but it is a licensed Assisted Living Home-Directed Care facility and is normally supervised by state agencies. Residents settle in here surrounded by care, nature, and the quiet beauty of the mountain, making it a calm, simple place for seniors needing long-term help in a small group setting.
