    Clean facility, denied family access

My experience at Peoria Vista Care was mixed. The facility was clean, homelike, and some staff were loving and attentive-helping my dad feel comfortable and even improve mobility. But I was repeatedly denied family access, caretakers were rude and yelled at residents, water was withheld several times, our POA wasn't informed, cameras were reportedly down, and care seemed to be given up on my dad; his death felt suspicious to me. I appreciate the kind employees, but I recommend caution.

    Summary review

The reviews for Peoria Vista Care LLC present a strongly mixed and polarized picture. A significant portion of reviewers praise the facility for providing warm, attentive, and compassionate care. Positive comments repeatedly highlight staff who are kind, loving, and go above and beyond to make residents comfortable. Multiple family members describe the environment as homelike and family-like, noting cleanliness, pleasant smells, and visible safety measures such as fire suppression equipment. Several reviewers explicitly recommend the facility and cite observable improvements in resident mobility and strength, suggesting that rehabilitative attention and day-to-day assistance can be effective for some residents.

Praise centers mainly on the frontline staff and everyday care: reviewers report that caregivers made loved ones feel comfortable, provided extra care, and were flexible with visitation. Families who had positive experiences describe staff as having the resident's best interest at heart and note uninterrupted visiting when permitted. The combination of cleanliness, a reassuring atmosphere, and visible safety infrastructure contributes to a sense of security for many families.

However, the positive feedback is counterbalanced by serious, specific negative allegations from other reviewers. These complaints include denied access to family members, poor communication with the power of attorney, and reports of rude or unprofessional caretaker behavior. More alarming are the allegations of neglect—claims that a resident was not being fed properly, that water was withheld on multiple occasions, and that staff yelled at a patient and a roommate. One reviewer described a resident's death as suspicious, and there are reports that cameras were not working and that basic supplies such as hand sanitizer were not available. These accusations point to potential lapses in both daily care practices and critical incident handling.

The reviews suggest inconsistency in the quality of care and management practices. While some families experienced a supportive, responsive team and saw measurable improvements in their loved ones' condition, others encountered communication failures and behaviors that could be considered neglectful or abusive. There are also concerns about boundary and privacy controls, exemplified by claims that owners' children walked in on residents. COVID-19 visitation restrictions are mentioned as a reason for limited access in some cases, which may explain at least some visitation complaints, but several reviews describe outright denied access or lack of timely notification to family decision-makers, indicating possible management or policy enforcement issues beyond pandemic constraints.

Given these mixed signals, the pattern that emerges is one of generally strong positive caregiving and environment for many residents combined with a handful of serious, specific negative incidents reported by other families. The severity of the negative claims (withholding water, not informing POA, reports of suspicious death) warrants careful attention. Families considering Peoria Vista Care should weigh the favorable reports of cleanliness, kindness, and rehabilitation outcomes against the reported lapses in communication, potential neglect, and management shortcomings.

Practical next steps for prospective families are to verify licensure and inspection records, request references from current families, ask about incident reporting and camera monitoring policies, and directly inquire how the facility ensures consistent staff training, resident hydration/nutrition protocols, and communication with POAs. Additionally, ask how visitation is handled post-COVID restrictions, what safeguards exist to prevent unauthorized room entry, and how management investigates and reports serious incidents. The reviews indicate that many residents do well there under caring staff, but the serious allegations make it important to perform due diligence and ask targeted questions before placement.
