    Pleasant facility, later care concerns

I was grateful at first - clean, hacienda-style facility with private rooms, lovely courtyard and home-cooked meals, 24-hour attentive staff (Oscar stood out), on-site medical services and regular photo updates. Staff felt caring, professional and family-like, and residents seemed comfortable and well cared for. Over time food quality declined, COVID stress and staffing-ratio issues emerged, and I found unexplained bruises that weren't documented; my unsatisfactory talk with the owner led me to move my mom out. Overall: great people and setting, but be cautious and watch closely.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is predominantly positive: most families praise Aslan Assisted Living for its homelike, hacienda-style setting, private rooms, and high standards of cleanliness and furnishing. Multiple reviewers highlight the facility’s small size as a clear advantage, enabling personalized and attentive care, frequent photo updates to families, and a family-like atmosphere. The environment is described as safe, comfortable, and emotionally supportive — residents are often reported to look healthier and happier after moving in.

Care quality and staffing receive generally strong marks. Many reviewers name certified caregivers, a nurse-owner providing clinical oversight, and motivated staff who go "above and beyond." Staff professionalism, responsiveness (including a named staff member, Oscar, in one review), up-to-date CPR/First Aid training, and detail-oriented supervision are repeatedly mentioned. Families commonly express gratitude for attentive leadership and describe staff as caring, friendly, and helpful. The facility also offers 24-hour assistance, which contributes to families’ sense of security.

Facilities and amenities are frequently cited as strengths. Reviewers mention attractive outdoor spaces—courtyard, gardens, and walking paths—plus on-site conveniences such as laundry, housekeeping, transport services, and even a hair salon (photo referenced on the website). The presence of on-site medical support (doctor) and access to labs, pharmacy, and X-rays is a notable advantage for residents with ongoing medical needs.

Dining is a mixed but generally positive theme. A dedicated cook and home-cooked meals are emphasized by many reviewers, who describe the food as fresh, delicious, and healthy. Several families appreciate meal alternatives and regard dining as a value-added part of the experience. However, there are a few reviews that report a decline in food quality, indicating inconsistency in this area over time or across different experiences.

Activities and engagement are also highlighted: reviewers note regular activities, outings, and an overall effort to keep residents engaged physically and socially. The small size of the facility is again framed as beneficial, permitting staff to provide personalized activities and one-on-one attention.

Notable concerns and patterns: while the majority of feedback is positive, a minority of reviews raise significant issues that prospective families should consider. Some reviewers describe COVID-related stress impacting operations; others raise concerns about staffing ratios, suggesting periods of understaffing or strain. There are at least a couple of serious allegations—reports of bruises with insufficient or missing documentation and at least one family describing an unsatisfactory conversation with the owner that led them to move their relative out. One review mentions ongoing billing or cost concerns when leaving ("same cost per month"), indicating possible disputes about charges. The small number of very negative reviews (e.g., "beware of this place") contrasts sharply with the many positive accounts, creating a mixed but mostly favorable overall picture.

Management and communication trends show both strengths and weaknesses. On the positive side, several families commend the owner for exceptional communication and deep investment in residents’ wellbeing. On the other hand, at least one family reported poor communication and an unsatisfactory resolution to their concerns. This split suggests variability in how issues are handled and underscores the importance of directly confirming current management practices, incident reporting protocols, and family communication processes.

In summary, Aslan Assisted Living appears to be a well-regarded, small private facility with strong positives: attentive, caring staff; a clean, homelike environment; private rooms; on-site medical access; and robust amenities such as home-cooked meals, gardens, and transportation. The majority of reviews highlight value, personalized care, and strong staff engagement. However, prospective residents and families should investigate a few recurring concerns before deciding: ask for current staffing ratios and shift coverage, inquire about incident documentation and escalation procedures, request recent menus and food-satisfaction feedback, and clarify billing/termination policies. Doing so will help ensure the facility’s strengths align with the specific needs and expectations of the resident.

    About Aslan Assisted Living

Aslan Adult Care Home in Tucson, AZ, has been around since 1990 and is a smaller, home-like assisted living facility with only seven licensed beds, so residents get more personal attention, and sometimes that's what makes all the difference for folks who want support but don't want to feel lost in a crowd. The staff provides 24-hour skilled nursing care and certified supervision, which means there's always someone there for daily needs like bathing, dressing, medication monitoring, and help with getting around, and they pay close attention to what the doctors say, which brings families some peace of mind. Residents get support with their meals, and meals are cooked in-house to handle special diets like allergies or diabetes, so everyone can stay as healthy as possible, and the dining room is open for both scheduled and all-day dining, just in case someone wants to eat outside of regular hours. The facility offers memory care programs for those with memory-related conditions, and also has physical therapy and rehab programs, so people with different needs get support right in the same place. Getting out to appointments or on group outings isn't a problem, since transportation services are part of what's available, and they help each resident with move-in coordination to make the transition smooth.

The rooms-whether studio, single, or two-bedroom options-have their own kitchens or kitchenettes, washers and dryers, and come with housekeeping services and cable TV, and some folks appreciate that the living spaces are furnished, so there's one less thing to worry about during a move. There's a dining room, fitness center, WiFi, salon/barbershop, and a game or activities room, plus communal walking paths and a garden, making it easier for people to spend time outside or gather indoors with others. Safety gets a lot of focus here too, from handicap features in the bathrooms to a sprinkler system and emergency alert system, covering various possible needs as people age.

Social and recreational activities are planned daily, including movie nights, arts and crafts, education and wellness programs, and other events that help residents stay active and feel part of a caring community. Services like in-house beauty treatments, private phone lines, and guest parking make day-to-day living a bit more comfortable, while board and care services in a residential neighborhood mean it's quieter than a big institution. Staff members aim for warm, high-quality, and compassionate care, adjusting for each person's preferences and health situations, and there's always attention to both safety and comfort. The facility doesn't take Medicare unless it has specific certification, and it falls under state and local oversight, with regular surveys and checks. Families choosing Aslan often do so because long-term care here is usually more affordable than a full nursing home, and the focus stays on supporting seniors in a friendly, active setting, helping them live out their days with as much comfort and dignity as possible.
