    Caring staff and clean facility

I placed my mom here and couldn't be happier - the staff are caring, attentive and professional (April Chavez and Jesus Compusano stood out), and they treat residents like family in a warm, home-like environment. The facility is clean and renovated with beautiful, well-kept grounds, a spacious courtyard and excellent dining, though some rooms/bathrooms are small and the location is on a noisy street with a few accessibility quirks. Medical support is solid (regular nurse hours, hospice/doctor available), activities are plentiful (COVID sometimes limits them), it's gated and reasonably priced - I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is strongly positive, with the most consistent praise directed at the staff and quality of care. Multiple reviewers describe the staff as caring, compassionate, patient and genuinely invested in residents' well-being. Nursing coverage and clinical oversight are repeatedly noted as strengths: frequent health checks, an on-site nurse for approximately eight hours a day, availability of hospice services, an on-site doctor in some cases, and a social worker who assists with resident needs. Families repeatedly emphasize that staff made transitions easier, were responsive to questions and insurance issues, and provided calming, supportive care during stressful situations.

The facility itself is described as new, renovated and well maintained. Reviewers frequently call out recent upgrades — converted hotel rooms into one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartments, fresh finishes, and a hotel-style, tidy aesthetic. Outdoor spaces are a standout feature: gated grounds, secure access, well-kept plants, gazebos with misters, wheelchair-accessible garden paths, fountains and a small body of water create a pleasant, park-like atmosphere that residents and visitors appreciate. Security (locked/gated community), easy parking for move-ins, and on-site conveniences add to the appeal noted by many families.

Dining and daily life receive high marks. The food is repeatedly described as very good, with a clean and pleasant dining room and snacks available throughout the day. Reviewers report varied menus, helpful dining staff and meals that residents enjoy. Housekeeping and laundry services are provided weekly, and many reviews note that residents are well-fed and comfortable. Families also highlight that residents report improved health and mobility after moving in, which reviewers attribute to the consistent care and active staff involvement.

Activity programming is present and appreciated: bingo nearly every day, special events (parades, Superbowl celebrations), frequent social opportunities and a recreation room. Some reviewers highlight especially impressive events and the social nature of the community. That said, activity offerings were limited for some time due to COVID restrictions, and a few reviewers noted repetition in activities or a desire for broader programming as pandemic constraints ease.

Affordability and administrative support are additional recurring positives. Multiple reviewers describe River’s Edge as reasonably priced or a good value compared with other options in the area. Admissions staff and office personnel are praised for making enrollment easy, handling insurance questions effectively, and arranging smooth transitions. There are also concrete examples of responsive administration, such as pro-rated refunds after a resident’s passing, which families appreciated.

Notable concerns are consistent enough to warrant consideration during a visit. Many units and bathrooms are described as small, and several reviews specifically point out bathrooms with bathtubs that have a step rather than walk-in showers — a potential accessibility issue for residents with mobility needs. While some apartments (notably certain two-bedroom units) are roomy, the hotel-style layout and compact private rooms are not ideal for everyone and feel motel-like to a few reviewers. The facility’s proximity to a busy street results in traffic noise for some rooms. There are also mentions of ongoing renovations that can be temporarily disruptive, and a small number of reviewers felt certain staff interactions were hurried or lacked detailed explanations.

In summary, River’s Edge receives strong endorsements for its compassionate and capable staff, clean renovated facilities, secure and attractive grounds, very good dining, clinical supports (nurse coverage, hospice and medical access), and overall value. The major trade-offs to weigh are room and bathroom size, specific accessibility of individual units (step tubs vs walk-in showers), noise from a nearby busy street, and occasional disruption from renovations. Prospective residents and families should prioritize an in-person visit to inspect specific apartment layouts, bathroom accessibility, noise levels at the exact unit, and the current activity schedule and renovation status. For families seeking warm, attentive care in a clean, affordable, and secure community, River’s Edge is frequently recommended; those needing fully accessible bathrooms or larger private suites should confirm unit specifications before committing.

    About River’s Edge

River's Edge was an assisted living community located about 2.4 miles outside Yuma, Arizona, at 2050 South 4th Avenue, and the place had 67 beds and was part of the Northstar Senior Living group, offering a wide mix of services for older adults like assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home care, and adult day services, and even though the rooms were small, many found them cozy and set up for residents to add their own furniture, with spaces that could be private or shared, and each one had satellite TV, climate control, and emergency services, with utilities included. The facility ran a dining program with home-cooked meals three times a day plus snacks, all tailored for dietary needs, and meals were eaten in the shared dining room alongside neighbors, who could bring pets if they wanted. The staff was always around, 24 hours a day, to help with things like medication, basic first aid, laundry, and housekeeping, and everyone could use the outdoor and indoor common areas, or join activities and wellness programs designed to keep people involved and active. Nobody missed out on routines, since there was a steady calendar of events, from social gatherings to educational and entertainment hours, plus some spiritual services offsite, which meant folks who wanted such support had nearby options. The community prided itself on helping residents keep their sense of independence for as long as possible, letting people do what they could for themselves, but staff stepped in when more help was needed, whether that was for Alzheimer's care, hospice care, respite care, or just daily support. People seemed to feel the warm, friendly environment, saying the place valued each person's contributions, with a high family review score around 9.5 out of 10, making it the highest rated in Yuma out of the 18 senior living communities in the area, and the community had policies so some pets were allowed, rooms stayed safe, and there was a one-time $1500 fee to move in. The facility had studio layouts, semi-private apartments, and joint or private rooms that were cleaned and kept up by the staff while providing ongoing support as needed. Activities and a caring attitude were a steady presence, and the community worked towards keeping its people connected and comfortable, always aiming to meet needs whether big or small. At this time, River's Edge is not open or accepting new residents, and it doesn't offer any services or amenities, with the community now closed.
