    Mother enjoys active friendly community

I'm very pleased - my mother enjoys life there, has made friends, and stays busy with cards, bingo, arts, exercise classes and frequent outings (shuttle to Walmart/pharmacy included). Staff and leadership are attentive, friendly and responsive; rooms are large, clean, accessible and the grounds are beautiful, secure and well maintained. Dining is mostly good - hot, fresh and supervised by a dietician - but vegetables and some meals can be greasy, overly salty/fatty with too much red meat. Overall it's a lovely, well-run place I'd recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive. Multiple reviewers emphasize that St. Bernards Village is a beautiful, well-managed community with excellent grounds and attractive common areas. The property repeatedly receives praise for its exterior, central garden and landscaping (bird baths, flowers, walking paths), and reviewers consistently note that rooms and common areas are clean, well-kept and often spacious. The facility offers a range of housing options — from single and double apartments to two-bedroom units, suites, cottages for purchase, and a guest house — and accessibility features and bathrooms suitable for residents with disabilities are highlighted in several accounts.

Staffing, care, and leadership emerge as one of the facility's strongest assets. Reviewers repeatedly describe staff as friendly, helpful, attentive and resident-focused. Maintenance and administration are noted as responsive and proactive in addressing resident needs, and multiple comments call out excellent leadership and a safe, secure environment (including a secure front gate and safe rooms). Several reviews describe personal experiences in which family members feel their loved ones are well cared for, make friends through activities, and enjoy daily life — language suggesting a homely atmosphere and happy residents.

Social life and programming are a major positive theme. The community offers a wide and varied range of activities: bingo, painting, arts and crafts, piano, movie nights, exercise classes, puzzle rooms, libraries, monthly birthday parties, holiday celebrations, regular outings to restaurants and shopping, and church services. Free shuttle service for errands (pharmacy, Walmart) and scheduled outings are frequently cited and appreciated. On-site amenities such as a beauty shop and small store, plus guest accommodations for visitors, further support an active, socially engaged lifestyle. Multiple reviewers note that residents seemed pleased during tours and that the facility fosters socialization and engagement.

Dining receives mixed but important attention. Several reviewers praise the food and even identify a top-notch dietician and fresh hot meals; others describe specific problems: greasy frozen or canned vegetables, a tendency toward high salt/fat/sugar content, an overreliance on red meat, and meals that are not always tailored to the nutritional needs of older adults. A few reviews say meals are great or that breakfast is delivered to rooms, while others call food “tolerable” or point out inconsistency. This split suggests that dining experiences may vary by meal, menu cycle, or reviewer expectations; the presence of a dietician indicates attention to nutrition, but there is room for improvement in consistency and tailoring for elders.

Management, logistics, and practical considerations are generally favorable. Reviewers mention excellent tours, helpful administration, and convenient proximity to shopping and services. Maintenance is described as great and prompt. The facility also supports continuity of care with options to move from assisted living to skilled care if needed. The main practical concern that recurs is cost: some reviewers inquire about pricing or note that another facility offers a better price point, indicating that prospective residents should seek clear cost and contract information and compare value relative to other options.

In summary, St. Bernards Village consistently receives high marks for its grounds, cleanliness, friendly and responsive staff, safety, variety of housing options, robust activity programming, and useful amenities like shuttle service and a beauty shop. The primary area noted for improvement is dining: several reviewers report inconsistent food quality and nutritional concerns, although others praise the meals and dietician. Cost transparency and comparison shopping are also advisable for prospective residents. Overall, the dominant pattern is of a caring, active, attractive community where many residents thrive socially and receive attentive support, with dining and pricing as the main items to verify during a visit.

    About St. Bernards Village

St. Bernards Village has a variety of care options for seniors, including assisted living, independent living, memory care, and respite care, all under the same roof, which means if someone needs more support later, they don't have to leave their community. Staff are available around the clock, ready to help with emergencies, moving from beds to wheelchairs, medication reminders, or just answering the call system in each room, which gives peace of mind to both residents and their families, and a nurse is on staff part-time to help with more advanced care like wound care, finger sticks, and insulin monitoring for diabetes. There are 65 licensed beds, with 58 for residents, and apartments come in studio, two-bedroom, and even three-bedroom options, plus some cottage-style condos for independent folks age 55 and over, and most rooms have things like full kitchens or kitchenettes, cable or satellite TV, and emergency call systems to make day-to-day life more comfortable.

The community provides daily meals and takes care of housekeeping, laundry, and linen services, which takes a load off those who find chores a little harder these days, and there's even in-house dry cleaning if needed, plus apartment maintenance is included, so things are fixed when troubles pop up. There are plenty of things to do, with activities like bingo, card games, exercise classes, and movie nights, and the library, coffee shop, chapel, ice cream parlor, and country store make sure folks have places to gather or just enjoy quiet time alone. The outside space is welcoming too, with gardens and outdoor patios that give residents and their guests room to sit and enjoy fresh air, and the grounds are kept up nicely with security guards watching the front gate and the facility itself has gated entry as well as a storm-rated safe room for protection. Safety is a big part of the environment here, with emergency call systems in every unit and staff trained for emergencies at any time, day or night.

For health and personal care, St. Bernards Village provides help with bathing, dressing, mobility, and more, and there's medication administration, wound care, hospice care, supportive and palliative care, and even skilled nursing available on-site, so people don't have to go far for the care they need. They also offer transportation for things like shopping, appointments, and going out in the community, plus there's parking for both guests and residents. The facility is pet-friendly with some restrictions, so seniors can still keep a companion animal if they want. Wellness gets a lot of attention too, with fitness programs, salon and barber services, and social and spiritual support through activities and religious services. Family communication is part of the support, making sure loved ones stay in the loop.

Altogether, life at St. Bernards Village is set up to handle advanced needs with Level 2 Assisted Living licensing, but it's also designed to keep things as independent, supportive, and comfortable as possible for each person, with care plans made for individual needs and a calm environment where folks can enjoy steady routines, time with others, and their own private space.
