    Mostly excellent care, staffing concerns

I placed my mom here and overall I'm pleased: the facility is very clean, rooms and common areas (lovely fountain, sitting and dining areas) are nice, activities and music at supper create a home-like atmosphere, and most staff are caring, skilled and family-like. My concerns are that staff are often overworked-long call-light waits, occasional rushing, privacy lapses and a cleaning incident-and a few employees were rude or rough; the food and kitchen management need improvement. Despite that, I feel the care is generally excellent and would recommend with reservations.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews for Stella Manor are mixed but lean strongly positive on the core areas of personal care, compassion, and facility upkeep. Multiple reviewers repeatedly describe staff as friendly, attentive, and caring; several emphasize that staff treat residents like family or grandchildren. Many reviewers specifically call out professionalism, high skill levels, and compassionate long-term care. The facility itself is frequently described as very clean and well-maintained, with nice rooms and attractive communal areas such as a fountain and sitting area that contribute to a home-like, cheerful atmosphere.

Care quality and staff interactions: The dominant theme is that caregivers provide excellent hands-on care and form meaningful, familial relationships with residents. Several summaries highlight staff responsiveness to non-verbal needs and a generally pleasant caregiver experience. At the same time, a recurring concern is staffing strain: reviewers note that staff often appear overworked, which manifests as long wait times for call lights and occasional rushing to complete tasks. These reports suggest that while individual caregivers are compassionate and skilled, systemic workload issues can degrade timely responsiveness and resident privacy at times.

Facility, cleanliness, and environment: Stella Manor receives consistently positive comments on cleanliness and maintenance. Reviewers mention very clean facilities and well-kept rooms. Common areas—specifically a fountain area and dining/sitting spaces—are described as attractive and comfortable. Several comments point to an overall warm, home-like environment with smiling faces and a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and residents alike.

Dining and activities: Feedback on dining and activities is mixed. The dining area and cafeteria atmosphere get positive notes—music during supper and a pleasant dining space are appreciated. However, food quality draws criticism from multiple reviewers, from general statements that the food “could use improvement” to stronger phrases calling the kitchen “ridiculous.” Activities receive favorable mentions: creative and available programming is noted, which supports social engagement and contributes to the positive environment.

Behavioral and management concerns: While many reviews praise individual staff members, there are troubling reports of inconsistent behavior. Some reviewers report rude, unhelpful, or young/inexperienced staff. More serious are allegations of racist behavior by staff and comments perceiving staff as “not intelligent,” as well as at least one cited cleaning incident and instances of rough handling. Management is directly questioned in a few summaries—phrases like “mismanaged managers” indicate perceived leadership or administrative shortcomings. These concerns appear less frequent than the positive comments but are serious in nature and would warrant attention from facility leadership.

Patterns and recommendations: The most frequent and strongest themes are caring, professional staff and a clean, home-like facility with engaging activities. Counterbalancing these positives are recurring operational issues: staffing shortages/overload leading to delayed responses, inconsistent staff behavior (including incidents of rudeness or worse), and dissatisfaction with food service. In sum, Stella Manor appears to deliver high-quality, compassionate daily care and a pleasant environment for many residents, but there are notable and recurring operational and behavioral problems that could materially affect resident experience. Prospective families should weigh the strong positives around caregiving and facility condition against reports of staff overwork, dining concerns, and the more serious allegations about staff conduct. For current management, priorities would include addressing staffing levels and workload, improving dining services, reinforcing staff training on respectful handling and privacy, and investigating any claims of discriminatory behavior to ensure consistent standards across the facility.
