    Exceptional care, clean facility, homey

I'm very pleased with the care here - staff are friendly, emergency response is reliable, and the facility is always spotless. Leadership and the owner are exceptional; Sandy has been wonderful. My private downstairs room with a bath is a great fit, and the 16:3 caregiver ratio gives me confidence. Casual dining with multiple small tables and an open family room with a view make it feel like home.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The facility presents a combination of notable operational strengths and relationship-management concerns. Physically and clinically, the environment is described as clean, well-maintained, and arranged to support a small-household style of living: private rooms with baths, casual dining at multiple small tables, and an open family room with a view. Staffing levels are characterized as favorable, and emergency-care responsiveness is noted as a positive attribute.

Care quality: Clinical care and routine assistance are portrayed positively. The facility’s staffing ratio and attentive staff behavior support timely care needs, and some reviewers described the placement as a good fit for residents who require personalized attention. Emergency response capability is seen as a strength, suggesting functional protocols for acute events.

Staff and interpersonal dynamics: While individual staff members have been singled out for praise, the commentary also raises concerns about staff conduct and the tone of communication with families. There are indications that dispute resolution can escalate quickly and that staff–family interactions may sometimes involve confrontational or coercive approaches. These suggest a need to confirm the facility’s conflict-deescalation training, protocols for handling complaints, and formal pathways for family communication.

Financial and safety processes: Review content points to weaknesses in financial-safeguarding and billing-dispute handling, as well as some perceived inconsistencies in safety and security practices. These are operational traits rather than single incidents; prospective residents and families should seek clear documentation on billing transparency, safeguards for resident funds, and the facility’s policies for investigating and resolving financial concerns.

Facilities, dining, and activities: The physical amenities and dining format are consistently described in favorable terms: casual, small-table dining and communal spaces that encourage interaction. There is, however, limited detail about formal activity programming; families should inquire about the regularity and variety of activities if that is a priority.

Management and recommendations: Leadership and owner engagement are cited as strengths, which may support quality improvement if concerns are raised. At the same time, the pattern of communication and dispute-handling issues suggests gaps in staff training, grievance procedures, and financial controls. Prospective residents should arrange an in-person visit, meet the leadership and primary care staff, review contract and billing policies, ask for examples of conflict-resolution protocols, and request references from current families to assess whether the facility’s operational practices match their expectations.

    About Secure Seniors

Secure Seniors sits over in Escondido, California, tucked away in a quiet part of town where folks can live with a bit of peace and have their needs taken care of in a small, close-knit setting that only has room for up to 16 residents, which means people get noticed here and aren't just another face in the crowd. This place is licensed as a Residential Care Home for the Elderly with a focus on all kinds of care-assisted living, board and care home, and memory care-where the staff does a whole lot from helping with bathing and dressing, coordinating with doctors, giving medications, and even working with residents who need assistance with transfers or are non-ambulatory and can't get around on their own. They do have specialized memory care and dementia programs, a secure part of the building for those who wander, and safety bracelets that ring alarms if someone tries to leave when they shouldn't, so families know that their loved ones are watched over with a bit of extra care, especially if Alzheimer's or other memory problems run in the picture. Each room comes fully furnished for comfort, and every resident gets housecleaning, laundry, help with meals (including special diets for allergies and diabetes), and medical appointments and transportation arranged as needed, plus, there's scheduled activities, walking paths, and a garden so there are little things to do every day if you want to join in or just sit outside and take in the breeze. Live-in staff and round-the-clock supervision mean someone's always there at night and during the day, and licensed nurses handle care from simple reminders for grooming and toileting to heavier tasks like managing medications, glucose checks, insulin injections, and even handling behavioral issues or incontinence without making a fuss. Folks who speak English will do fine here, and the community supports people getting SSI and works with the San Diego Regional Center, so people with all sorts of backgrounds can find a home. Features like Wi-Fi, cable TV, a dining room, parking, and emergency alert systems come standard, while pets are welcome too, which makes it feel less like a facility and more like a home where a person can keep some of their familiar routines. Secure Seniors has been licensed since 2004, scored 6.8 out of 10 on Seniorly's rating system, and gets its information and inspections through California's Community Care Licensing Division. The memory care area is in its own building, built especially for dementia and Alzheimer's residents, with technology to keep everyone safe even if someone acts out or tries to leave. The place handles everything from independent living to heavier medical needs, whether you're managing your diabetes by yourself or need hands-on help every day, so as care needs change, the staff can step up without having to move someone out. Pets, outdoor areas, scheduled transport, and a general warm feeling of safety and being looked after make Secure Seniors a choice for people who want something smaller and more personal, not a huge complex with too many people, and the place has some gentle activities, basic amenities, and a staff that knows the difference between looking after folks and smothering them.
