    Compassionate attentive clean homey care

I've been very happy with this small, family-run place - the staff are compassionate, attentive and competent, communication is excellent, and they tailor care and home-cooked meals to each person. The facility is clean, homey and steadily improving with pleasant outdoor spaces; rooms are small and activities limited, but overall I highly recommend it for loving, reliable care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with multiple reviewers emphasizing compassionate, attentive, and competent care. The staff receive repeated praise for being welcoming, loving, cheerful, and patient; many reviews note stable, long-tenured employees and family-run leadership that contributes to a warm, personalized environment. Communication with families is highlighted as a strength — reviewers report good updates and a sense that residents’ needs are addressed promptly. Several reviewers explicitly state they highly recommend the community.

Care quality emerges as a major theme. Reviewers consistently describe immediate attention to residents' needs, compassionate emotional and physical care, and the ability to handle higher-needs residents effectively. The small size of the facility is cited positively in this context because it enables personalized, tailored care and greater staff familiarity with individual preferences. Multiple comments describe the staff as competent, loving, and terrific at caregiving and communication, which collectively signal solid day-to-day care practices and a stable workforce.

Dining is another repeatedly praised area. The reviews mention nutritious, home-cooked meals, holiday feasts, and the ability to accommodate special dietary requests and individual preferences. Fresh meals and a 'home-cooked' style are emphasized, and families appreciate that meals can be tailored to residents. Food quality and responsiveness to food needs are presented as consistent strengths.

Facility and grounds receive generally favorable notes. Reviewers report recent improvements and upgrades under new ownership, a clean facility with a homey smell, and accessible common areas. The outdoor spaces are frequently mentioned as pleasant and safe — specifically, a back patio with a shade structure and opportunities for walks and social outdoor activity. The neighborhood is described as nice, and some reviewers used positive metaphors (for example, “country club vibe”) to convey a comfortable environment.

However, there are some recurring limitations to be aware of. Several reviewers point out that organized activities are limited; one called the place more of a residential home with few activities. The small scale of the community is double-edged: while it enables personalized care, it also appears to limit amenities and space. Specific concerns include small resident rooms and at least one mention that some rooms have no private bath. A small number of comments describe a sad or non-cheerful atmosphere, which contrasts with other reviewers who describe cheerful staff; this suggests variability in residents’ subjective experience or differences in expectations.

Management and operations are generally seen in a positive light. Multiple reviewers noted improvement under new ownership, friendly and attentive management, and a well-run facility where guests feel valued. Family involvement is noted as a positive influence on care and culture. A few reviewers explicitly said no further improvements were needed and described a positive overall experience.

In summary, My New Home - Lodi Gardens is portrayed across reviews as a small, well-maintained facility with a home-like atmosphere, strong and stable caregiving staff, good communication with families, and high-quality, home-cooked meals that can be individualized. Recent upgrades and a pleasant outdoor area add to the appeal. Prospective families should weigh the benefits of personalized care and a close-knit setting against the limitations that come with a smaller residential home — notably fewer formal activities, smaller rooms, and the possibility of shared or no private bathrooms. Overall, the pattern of comments leans strongly positive and many reviewers highly recommend the community.

About My New Home - Lodi Gardens

My New Home - Lodi Gardens sits in San Diego, California, in a quiet Clairemont neighborhood and is a small and licensed board and care home serving only up to six residents, so you get a home-like feel with personalized care. This place offers long-term care and assisted living, and it's got memory care services for seniors, including those with dementia or Alzheimer's, providing a secure setting with tailored health programs, so families can worry a little less. The staff here includes licensed nurses, on call doctors, and other professionals who work round the clock to help with bathing, dressing, transfers, medications, and daily life, while fostering independence as much as possible, which is comforting for families who want their loved ones cared for but also respected.

Residents get nutritious home-cooked meals, even those who need special diets, and there's a dining room for shared meals, furnished rooms, and plenty of support for non-ambulatory and wheelchair users, and it's a fully wheelchair-accessible building, which is important for safety and ease. The inside and outside have been recently upgraded, making things more pleasant for seniors, and rooms and living spaces are made cozy and comfortable. My New Home - Lodi Gardens organizes fun and social activities for residents, like movie nights, educational programs, and gatherings. There are both indoor and outdoor common areas, beauty and barber services, and residents can even have pets. Housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning services are handled by the staff, and there are policies like no smoking indoors to help keep everyone healthy. Female-only options are available for those who want them.

Transportation services, including complimentary rides and parking for residents, are provided, and you'll find extra support like speech therapy, physical and occupational therapy, and a podiatrist who comes by. Hospice and respite care are available if needed, and there's a foster care program, too. There are emergency alert systems in place, and staff are available day and night, so in case of a fall or health problem, help is close by-though no day or night caregiving staff are currently reported. This facility isn't certified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, doesn't take Medicare payments, and isn't accredited with the BBB, so people usually pay by other means. Since My New Home - Lodi Gardens opened in July 2022 under license number 374604584, the focus has stayed on offering a balance of comfort, safety, and dignity, with meals, programs, and a caring team all working to make the later years a little bit easier and a little more enjoyable for its small group of seniors.
