    Good care, community; needs updates

I moved my sister here and I'm happy with the choice - caring, accommodating staff who explain things well, a nice community, and convenient activities across the street. The tour guide was knowledgeable and the home meets legal care requirements, so I would recommend it for many families. It isn't the right level of care for my mom, and I wished it were cleaner and updated in places. Overall a good boarding option if those issues aren't dealbreakers.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviewers express a generally positive view of Ageway Boarding Care #2, with repeated praise for the people who run and staff the home and multiple family members saying they are happy with their placement and would recommend the facility. The dominant theme is that this is a caring, community-oriented boarding care home with staff who are informative, accommodating, and good at explaining and addressing questions and concerns. Several reviewers specifically noted that relatives (for example, a sister) loves the place and that the owners are understanding, which gives a sense of personalized attention and family-style management.

Staff and management: Staff and leadership receive the strongest positive comments. Reviewers describe the owners as understanding and the staff as great, caring, and accommodating to resident needs. The tour experience is singled out as positive — the guide was described as nice and knowledgeable — and the staff are reported to be responsive when families raise questions or concerns. This pattern suggests that communication and interpersonal care are strengths of the facility and that management places value on working with families.

Care quality and suitability: While many reviewers are satisfied, an important limitation emerges around the level of care provided. One reviewer explicitly said the facility was "not the right level of care for my mom," and other comments imply that the home provides a standard boarding-care level that meets legal requirements but may not be adequate for residents who need more intensive assistance or specialized medical supervision. In short, the facility appears well-suited to residents who require basic boarding care and supportive staff, but families with higher medical or behavioral care needs should verify whether the home can meet those needs.

Facilities, cleanliness, and maintenance: Several reviewers noted concerns about cleanliness and the physical condition of the home. Comments such as "not as clean as I would like" and "updates needed around the home" indicate that while operationally compliant, the facility may show signs of wear or deferred maintenance in places. These observations do not appear to be universal, but they are recurring enough to be a point families should consider when touring the facility.

Activities and community: The location and activity access are perceived positively. Reviewers mention convenient activities across the street from a senior center and describe the community as nice. This suggests residents have opportunities for engagement outside the home and that the facility benefits from proximity to neighborhood resources, which is a plus for socialization and programming.

Recommendations and best-fit profile: Taken together, the reviews portray Ageway Boarding Care #2 as a caring, family-oriented boarding care home with strong staff communication and a generally satisfied set of residents and families. It is likely a good fit for seniors who need daily help within the scope of boarding care, value personal attention from staff and owners, and appreciate access to nearby activities. It may be less appropriate for people who require higher levels of medical or specialized care, or for families for whom immaculate facility condition is a top priority.

Actionable considerations for prospective families: Because reviews consistently praise staff and recommend the facility but also raise concerns about cleanliness, needed updates, and limited care intensity, prospective families should plan an in-person visit focused on: observing staff-resident interactions, asking specifically about the care services and staff-to-resident ratios for higher care needs, inspecting cleanliness and recent maintenance/upgrade work, and confirming licensing/compliance details. Also confirm activity schedules and how the facility coordinates use of nearby senior-center resources so you can gauge day-to-day life for your loved one.

Missing or limited information: Reviewers did not provide detailed comments about dining, medical care specifics, medication management, or staffing levels by shift. Those are important areas to clarify during a tour or conversation with management to determine fit for an individual resident’s needs.

    About Ageway Boarding Care #2

Ageway Boarding Care #2 sits in San Mateo, California, right on Royal Avenue across from local community spots and close to the senior center which makes it easy for residents to join in social and recreational activities if they want, and you'll find six beds here in a comfortable home that feels more like family than an institution, and the atmosphere is close and peaceful with kind, attentive staff who help with daily living like dressing, bathing, or getting to meals, and residents can pick a private or semi-private room with posted prices so it's clear what's available and what it costs, and while the home welcomes both men and women, there are also spaces for female-only residents if someone prefers that, and they do allow small pets so residents don't have to leave behind a companion.

This is a licensed Residential Care Elderly home that's earned a strong 4.5-star rating, with a visiting nurse who checks up on folks now and then to help with wellness, and if someone needs help moving around, there's a Hoyer Lift for transfers to make sure it's safe and easy. The caregivers know how to support residents living with memory conditions like Alzheimer's or dementia, and they can provide reminders for medication and assist with personal care. People who stay here get all meals prepared for them with good ingredients, and there's housekeeping and laundry taken care of as well, so residents don't need to worry about chores. There's a full schedule of daily activities, like bingo or card games, and they encourage everyone to join in to build friendships and stay active.

Ageway Boarding Care #2 has options for independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing care, hospice, adult day services, and both home health and non-medical home care, which covers a wide range of care needs so someone can stay even if their health changes over time, and each person gets their care tailored to them based on what they need. Safety features are in place throughout the home, and the staff keeps an eye on everyone for wellness and safety. Residents and families say the owners are understanding, and staff is compassionate and friendly which goes a long way, and moving in is a little easier since they help with relocation too. The rooms-whether single or shared-are set up so each person can bring pieces from home and get comfortable, and the whole place has a warm, homey feel that helps residents relax and connect with others their age.
