    Beautiful facility, understaffed, safety concerns

I placed my grandmother here for a long stay - the location and beautiful, very clean facility, good food, activities (bingo, dancing, TV room, rides) and many caring staff (Valerie the CNA was an absolute gem) were real strengths. However, I experienced chronic understaffing, poor family communication and dismissive management; there were safety concerns around lack of portable oxygen/tanks and low O2 incidents, and I learned of severe neglect cases (dehydration/UTI → hospitalization and death). Great people and environment, but proceed with caution - confirm staffing, oxygen availability and communication practices before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly mixed, with a clear split between positive experiences praising the day-to-day caregiving and cleanliness, and negative reports describing understaffing, serious safety and medical-care shortcomings, and poor management communication. Many reviewers emphasize compassionate individual caregivers and a clean, pleasant environment; others report neglect, dangerous medical situations, and distrust of management. The volume and severity of the negative reports — including dehydration, ambulance transfers, and a reported UTI-related death — are notable and create a substantial caveat to the generally positive descriptions of the physical facility and activities.

Staff and care quality: Numerous reviews highlight caring, attentive nurses and CNAs, with at least one caregiver (Valerie) singled out as exemplary. Several families and residents described staff as sweet, genuine, passionate, and respectful, and nurses as knowledgeable. However, these positive accounts coexist with repeated complaints about understaffing and inconsistent attention. Understaffing is described as causing sub-par care, missed promises, and situations where urgent needs were not met. This leads to a bifurcated picture: when staff are available and engaged, residents receive dignified, respectful care; when staffing levels drop or procedures fail, families report neglectful outcomes.

Facilities, activities, and dining: The physical facility receives consistent praise — reviewers call it beautiful, clean, quiet, and secure. Rooms are described as clean and sometimes flexible in layout, and common areas like a TV room are mentioned. Activity programming is a positive theme: bingo (twice weekly), dancing, outings and rides, and other social offerings are noted and appreciated. Dining receives favorable comments as well, with reviewers saying the food is very good and menus vary daily. Overall, the environment is described as inviting for rehabilitation and pleasant for many residents.

Safety, medical equipment, and serious incident reports: Several reviews raise significant safety and medical-care concerns. Reported issues include a shortage of portable oxygen tanks, low oxygen saturation measurements cited by reviewers (one example: 83%), and poor availability of oxygen equipment at critical times. There are also reports of dehydration, ambulance transfers to hospital, and at least one family attributing a resident's death to a UTI. These are serious allegations and appear alongside statements that the facility “watches Alzheimer's patients closely,” suggesting variability in supervision and medical responsiveness. The recurrence and gravity of these medical-safety complaints indicate systemic vulnerabilities, particularly for residents with higher medical needs or respiratory requirements.

Management and communication: Several reviewers describe management as dismissive or unresponsive, including a specific allegation that management refused to accept a care label. Families report poor communication about resident status and care plans, and some mention documented issues that went unresolved. This weakens trust and exacerbates frustration when medical or safety problems arise. Additionally, practical concerns such as incompatibility with Kaiser insurance and unclear admissions availability were raised, which could complicate placement and continuity of care for prospective residents.

Patterns and overall assessment: The reviews present a polarized pattern. On one end are multiple testimonials praising individual caregivers, cleanliness, activities, food, and a generally pleasant environment — experiences that lead some families to recommend the facility. On the other end are strong, specific complaints about understaffing, management dismissiveness, safety lapses, and serious adverse events. The net impression is that Arbor View Skilled Nursing Division can deliver high-quality, compassionate care in many cases, particularly for residents with primarily social, rehabilitative, or lower-intensity needs. However, there is a nontrivial and recurring set of reports indicating inconsistent staffing, breakdowns in communication, shortages of critical equipment (oxygen tanks), and serious medical incidents that raise concerns for residents with significant medical or respiratory support requirements.

For readers evaluating these reviews: weigh the positive comments about staff compassion, facility cleanliness, and activities against the reported systemic issues around staffing, equipment availability, and management responsiveness. Prospective residents and families should ask direct, specific questions about staffing ratios, oxygen equipment protocols, emergency procedures, recent incident history, and insurance compatibility (e.g., Kaiser) before making placement decisions. The facility may be a good fit for some residents, but the documented variability in care and serious safety-related complaints warrant careful inquiry for anyone with higher medical needs.

About Arbor View Skilled Nursing Division

Arbor View Skilled Nursing Division sits on a 13-acre campus with mountain views and tries to care for the whole person-body, mind, and spirit-through many levels of care, so folks who move in can stay as their care needs grow or shift, which is something a lot of families find helpful. This community offers independent living, assisted living, rehabilitation, and long-term skilled nursing, so folks can adjust as they need, plus short-term stays for rehabilitation, respite care, hospice, and comfort care that focuses on both symptoms and honoring end-of-life wishes. The community is set up for memory care, with a secure dementia neighborhood and staff using programs like the Virtual Dementia Tour® to train caregivers and offer individualized help for residents with Alzheimer's or dementia. There are on-site therapists and a clinical team helping with wound care, diabetes management, tracheostomy care, IV therapies, pain management, chronic diseases, cardiac and orthopedic rehabilitation, and post-hospital recovery for things like strokes, fractures, or joint replacements, and the health care center handles both short recoveries and longer-term care.

Rooms tend to be fully furnished, with housekeeping, linen service, private bathrooms, air conditioning, and even kitchenettes, which some folks might like for making simple meals or snacks, and for assisted living, there are private apartments with walk-out patios. Residents can use cable TV, a telephone, and Wi-Fi in their rooms, and community spaces include a dining room, gaming room, computer center, small library, and a beauty salon, plus fitness programs in a fitness room, and safe outdoor areas-including gardens and a secured courtyard-for relaxing or walking. The meal service prepares dishes for different needs, including special diets for diabetes, and aims to provide restaurant-style dining, sometimes even with nice views of the foothills. Residents can join in daily planned events, day trips, resident-run groups, and community-sponsored activities which help keep people engaged and social, and there's support for hobbies, exercising, creative activities, and life skills work, especially for those in memory care, where programming encourages activity and connection based on each person's history.

Staff can help with daily needs like bathing, dressing, transferring, and managing medications. There's a 24-hour call system, supervision, and regular nursing coverage throughout the day, with the clinical team providing wound care, rehabilitation, and therapies such as physical, speech, language, occupational, and respiratory. Transport is arranged for both medical and non-medical reasons, and there's a community-operated service as well. Arbor View puts a focus on life enrichment, wellness, and honoring independence as much as it can in a safe and engaging setting, but families should know the center currently has a 2.6 rating from 5 reviews, which is something to keep in mind when deciding if it might be the right choice. The campus as a whole aims to provide a comfortable place where people can grow older with the right amount of support, and it's open 24 hours if help is needed at any time.
