    Beautiful campus but inconsistent staff

I'm conflicted. The campus is beautiful - light, bright rooms, incredible grounds, pleasant walks, good food, lots of activities, on-site salon and strong rehab/therapy with continuity of care - but my mother's stay was marred by inconsistent staff: some CNAs and nurses were compassionate and helped a miraculous recovery, while others were unfriendly, inattentive to meds and concerns, and made family visits and sleeping arrangements uncomfortable. Because of that inconsistency I would hesitate to recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive, with a clear pattern of strong clinical and rehabilitative services and a campus design that supports continuity of care. Multiple reviewers praise Someren Glen for its rehabilitation programs (physical and occupational therapy) and for achieving notable, even dramatic, recovery outcomes. Several accounts highlight compassionate CNAs and nurses and a responsive administrative team, and describe the staff as outstanding and caring. The campus model — offering Day Care, Rehab, Assisted Living, and a nursing home — is repeatedly noted as a major plus because it allows residents to stay on the same campus even as their level of care changes.

Care quality and clinical services are among the most frequently praised aspects. Reviewers frequently mention regular medical check-ups and effective therapy leading to successful recoveries. Where care is described positively, families cite compassionate bedside care and supportive staff who facilitate rehabilitative progress. Conversely, a small but serious subset of reviews report poor care experiences, including inattentiveness to medications and staff ignoring concerns. These negative reports are significant because they relate to safety and clinical reliability; they suggest variability in care quality that prospective residents and families should probe further.

Staffing and responsiveness present a split picture. Many reviewers describe staff as kind, helpful, and caring, and specifically call out CNAs, nurses, therapists, and administration for their positive roles. However, other reviews describe unwelcoming or unfriendly staff, lack of responsiveness to family questions, and occasions when concerns were ignored. This inconsistency points to possible differences across shifts, units, or individual staff members rather than a uniformly poor or excellent staffing culture.

Facilities and campus environment are generally well-regarded with repeated mentions of light, bright spaces, incredible grounds, and pleasant indoor/outdoor walking opportunities. These physical attributes, paired with the continuity-of-care model, are strong selling points. That said, at least one review describes the environment as dark and unwelcoming, indicating that some areas or units may feel less inviting or that perceptions vary by location or personal preference.

Dining, activities, and resident life receive largely favorable comments. Reviewers note a nice menu with a good variety and many activities and enrichment programs that contribute to engagement and quality of life. The availability of convenient services such as on-site salon and drug-store item delivery to rooms (for a reasonable fee) is also appreciated and underscores an emphasis on resident convenience.

Management and operational notes are similarly mixed. Supportive administration and good communication are cited in positive reviews, and the campus’s practical services and value are praised. Negative operational concerns include medication management and family accommodations — for example, uncomfortable sleeping arrangements for visitors were mentioned — and at least one reviewer explicitly stated they would not refer others based on their experience.

Patterns and recommendations: the most consistent strengths are rehabilitation outcomes, the continuity-of-care campus model, amenity offerings (salon, delivery), dining variety, and many enrichment opportunities. The most significant concerns are variability in staff responsiveness and specific reports about medication oversight and ignored family concerns. For prospective residents and families, it would be prudent to tour the community at different times of day, ask about medication management protocols, inquire about staffing ratios and turnover, request references from current families in the specific unit of interest, and confirm visitor/family accommodations. Overall, Someren Glen appears to offer strong clinical rehab services and an appealing campus for many residents, but the mixed reviews indicate that individual experiences can vary and merit careful, targeted due diligence before making placement decisions.
