    Highly recommended community dining caveat

I live here and feel blessed - I've made many friends, the staff are friendly, helpful and attentive, and the community is clean, home-like and safe. There are plenty of activities and great on-site amenities (salon, gym, walking paths, pool tables, etc.), and move-in and maintenance support has been responsive. Meals are generally good but can be inconsistent and I'd like more menu variety. Overall I highly recommend this place with the caveat to ask about dining options and any recent service issues.

    Summary review

Overall impression Mountain View Independent Living receives predominantly positive feedback, with a strong emphasis on the quality of staff, the social environment, and the breadth of amenities. The majority of reviewers praise the staff as friendly, caring, and highly responsive — from executive leadership and community relations to front-line caregivers and maintenance personnel. Many reviewers explicitly state they would recommend the community, cite quick problem resolution, and describe the move-in and tour processes as welcoming and informative. The property is repeatedly described as very clean and well maintained, with attractive grounds and convenient on-site services that contribute to a comfortable, home-like atmosphere.

Staff and care quality Staff performance is the most consistent positive theme. Reviewers highlight compassionate, helpful, and attentive employees, naming the executive director, community relations director, and HR positively in several comments. Move-in support, personalized attention during tours, and staff willingness to assist with day-to-day questions are commonly noted. Care quality is described as high for many residents, with some family members reporting that their loved ones are very happy and well cared for. However, there are starkly contrasting accounts: one serious safety complaint describes a resident being left on the floor for nine hours with subsequent blame-shifting and policy noncompliance, culminating in rehab — a rare but very serious concern that should be investigated and monitored by prospective residents and families.

Dining Dining reviews are mixed but generally positive. Numerous reviewers praise the meals as nutritious, delicious, and varied, with multiple chefs and a restaurant-like dining experience cited. Several reviews explicitly state that residents "love the food" and that meal services are a highlight. At the same time, a minority of reviewers report that the food did not meet expectations, described meals as the "worst," or requested more nutritional expertise and menu variety. A recurring specific request is for more alternative daily menu options and greater attention to residents who are not big eaters. These divergent views suggest overall strong food services with occasional inconsistency or variability in specific meals or dietary responsiveness.

Facilities, amenities, and maintenance The facility’s physical environment receives frequent praise: clean buildings, well-maintained grounds, pleasant views, and numerous on-site amenities (bank, beauty/barber shop, convenience store, exercise rooms, pool tables, big-screen TVs, library, TV room, hair salon). Townhouse-style cottages and walking paths are highlighted as contributing to a homelike feel. Maintenance is generally described as prompt and effective (fridge replacements and timely repairs are mentioned), although a few reviewers reported slower maintenance responses. Renovations are underway according to some comments, and a few reviewers felt parts of the facility were outdated. A specific, repeated desire is for in-unit washer/dryer in cottages; currently there is at least an adequate shared laundry facility and weekly cleaning support, but in-unit laundry would be an improvement to many.

Activities and social life Social engagement and activities are strong points. Many reviewers mention a full activity calendar, regular events, games, and daily interactions that foster friendships and community involvement. Positive peer interactions, neighbor games, and even lighthearted notes about wildlife and squirrel feeding indicate an active, social community. A few residents desired more or different activities, suggesting that while offerings are plentiful, there is opportunity to expand variety to suit a broader range of interests.

Management, operations, and safety concerns Management and leadership are generally praised for being responsive and resident-centered, with some staff singled out for going "above and beyond." Transportation services for appointments and errands are offered and appreciated, though at least one reviewer reported a canceled transport. Security and safety are mostly viewed positively (some reviewers explicitly called the community safe), but there are troubling exceptions: reports include an unstaffed front desk, a claim that the building was not secure, and pest problems in at least one apartment. The most severe operational concern is the single but serious report of neglect and failure to follow policy when a resident lay unattended for an extended period. These incidents are outliers in the dataset but are significant and should be considered carefully by prospective residents and families when evaluating risk and oversight.

Value, location, and final impressions Many reviewers say the community offers good value and meets cost needs; location is described as convenient by multiple people and the community accepts Medicaid according to at least one review. The overall sentiment leans strongly positive, driven by consistent praise for staff, cleanliness, and social life. However, there is variation in experiences — from glowing endorsements to serious complaints — so prospective residents should conduct thorough tours, ask about recent safety incidents and pest control measures, verify staffing patterns (including front desk coverage), inquire about in-cottage laundry options, and sample meals before committing. In short: Mountain View Independent Living is widely regarded as a friendly, activity-rich, and well-staffed community with many amenities and good value for many residents, but there are isolated but serious operational and quality issues that warrant direct questions and verification during the decision-making process.

    About Mountain View Independent Living

Mountain View Independent Living sits in the Cheyenne Mountain Ranch area of Colorado Springs and offers independent living for seniors who value their freedom and want less work around the house. The building has a single-story, open floor plan, which makes moving around safer and easier for everyone, especially with secure doors and a monitored fire system running all the time. Residents live in roomy studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom private apartments, each with their own private bathroom, full kitchen or kitchenette, and options for a porch, balcony, or sitting area. The apartments come maintenance-free-no yard work or repairs-and have extra nice touches like air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and the chance to bring in personal furniture or pets. Mountain View Independent Living has both cottages and villas, furnished or unfurnished, with storage and closet space, plus private mailboxes and a reliable refrigerator in every home, so residents can stay comfortable on their own terms.

The community gives a lot of choices for activities, which range from walking on garden paths and attending movie nights to group exercise like dance fitness, Tai Chi, and chair exercises. Residents get involved in trivia games, musical events, gardening, spiritual gatherings-including church and Catholic services-and a lot of intergenerational and creative programs like arts and crafts, sports, and lawn games. Inside, there's a library, activity room, game room, arts room, movie theater, wellness spa, and laundry room. Outside, there's a private courtyard, walking paths, and plenty of secure common space for reading, relaxing, or meeting up with others. There are planned outings, field trips, and transportation for errands, events, or medical appointments, plus parking spots for residents, guests, and visiting family members. Residents can have family or friends stay overnight and sometimes attend events together.

Meal times give everyone options, as the community serves family-style breakfast and lunch with a professional chef preparing dishes from Mondays through Fridays, and the kitchen is open for use if a resident wants to do their own cooking, especially if they have special diets to follow. Meal delivery is available for residents who prefer to dine in their apartments, and there are planned shopping trips for additional groceries. Staff members offer light housekeeping, laundry, cleaning support, groundskeeping, and maintenance, plus help with medication, physical therapy, and other health-related services if residents need it. There's a hair salon and barbershop on-site, a mobile library service, and easy access to mail delivery.

Safety and wellness are big priorities, with a gated and secure entrance, emergency preparedness plans, controlled building access, and a caring staff trained in ethics, resident rights, and monitoring for abuse or neglect. Same-day assessments help new residents settle in, and the staff can help with the move-in process and answer questions. The team is always nearby in case anyone needs something, but otherwise, residents live at their own pace, choosing what to join based on personal interests.

Mountain View Independent Living accepts private pay, checks, credit cards, and VA benefits for all-inclusive rent, but does not take Medicaid. The location is within minutes of hospitals, doctors, parks, dining, and shops. The community accepts visiting pets and lets residents care for their own pets, as long as they're able to handle that responsibility. There are no meals included; instead, there are many ways for residents to cook or heat up food in their own kitchens, and staff provide support if anyone needs it. Tours are available for people wanting to meet residents and see what daily life is like. There's always someone on hand to explain how things work, from the Meta and Facebook groups for events, to the way the community organizes activities and outings, and to make sure everyone gets the chance to connect and stay active if they want to.
