    Caring staff but safety concerns

I have mixed feelings: many staff - CNAs, nurses, the director of nursing and admin - are warm, hands-on, and attentive; the facility is clean, remodeled (excellent pulmonary unit and rehab), and the food is great, and my aunt has thrived. However, I've also seen dangerous lapses - inaccessible call buttons, meals/water out of reach, unresponsive front desk, falls and dehydration risk, and unprofessional behavior - so I'd only recommend it if those safety and communication issues are addressed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Forest Street Compassionate Care Center is mixed but leans positive with several notable and recurring concerns. Multiple reviewers praise recent facility upgrades — specifically a new, remodeled pulmonary unit — and highlight specialized clinical resources such as licensed, specialty-trained nurses, an experienced pulmonologist, and a coordinated respiratory team. The presence of a pulmonary rehabilitation and strengthening program, together with described COVID-19 response efforts, indicates organizational focus on respiratory care and infection control for residents with higher clinical needs.

Staffing and leadership receive frequent positive mentions alongside some strong negative reports. Numerous reviews describe attentive, compassionate staff and hands-on leadership: the Director of Nursing and the administrator are repeatedly noted for proactive, personalized management and for creating a family-like atmosphere. CNAs named Jess and Albert are singled out for compassion, and many reviewers say staff go out of their way to care for residents. Conversely, there are several serious complaints about poor staff behavior and communication — including reports of disrespectful and unprofessional interactions (one complaint specifically names an employee, Krystal), rushed phone interactions, and reviewers advising against placing loved ones at the facility. These polarized accounts suggest variable staff performance across shifts or individual employees.

Safety and basic care concerns are the most significant negative themes and appear in multiple reviews. Reported problems include falls, alleged neglect around fall prevention, inaccessible or nonfunctional call buttons, dehydration risk with food and water reported out of residents' reach, soiled patients, and overall poor communication about incidents. Some reviewers go so far as to call the care negligent and recommend closure of the facility. These are serious issues that contrast sharply with other reviews that describe proactive nursing leadership and attentive care, indicating inconsistent implementation of safety protocols or uneven staffing/oversight.

Facility condition, dining, activities, and resident life are largely reported positively by many families. Several reviews say the building is clean and welcoming, remark on pleasant common areas and facility upgrades, and highlight strong dining services — multiple reviewers praise the food and the dietary director for ensuring residents are well fed. Personal services such as hair and nails, small-group activities, and adaptations for social distancing (masks, handwashing, visitation alternatives) are noted as contributing to positive resident morale.

In summary, reviewers convey a mix of strong positives and serious negatives. Strengths include the specialized pulmonary unit and programs, many caring and proactive staff members, visible leadership engagement, good dining, and a generally welcoming environment. However, there are recurring and severe concerns about safety, basic care (falls, hydration, call systems), isolated incidents of unprofessional behavior, and inconsistent responsiveness from staff or front-desk/administration. The pattern suggests that while the facility has substantive clinical resources and many dedicated employees, there are gaps in consistent care delivery and safety oversight that should be addressed. Families considering this facility will see many endorsements but should also weigh the reported safety and communication risks and ask targeted questions about incident reporting, staffing consistency, call-button reliability, and fall-prevention protocols before placement.
