    Beautiful facility, but staffing concerns

I moved my mom here and I love the brand-new, hotel-like building - spotless rooms, mountain views, chef-prepared meals, daily housekeeping and a full activities calendar. The caregiving staff I met were warm, attentive and made her feel at home, and 24/7 support is available. I also experienced inconsistent staffing, communication/training gaps, and troubling safety/management issues others reported, so nurses can be hard to reach and memory-care transitions/fees felt unclear. It's expensive but can be worth it if you confirm staff stability, contract details, and safety practices before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Modena Cherry Creek is highly mixed, with a strong divide between reviewers who praise an upscale, well-appointed community and attentive, loving caregivers, and those who report serious operational, clinical, and management failures. Many reviewers highlight the facility’s aesthetics and amenities: it is repeatedly described as brand-new, modern, and hotel-like, with spacious studios and suites, attractive common areas, a theater, a wine/beer bar, an open kitchen (complete with visible chefs and a pizza oven), patio areas with a firepit, and salon services. Cleanliness and housekeeping receive frequent positive mentions, including daily trash removal and regular laundry service. Dining is one of the most consistent positives; multiple reviews praise chef-prepared, nutritionally balanced meals, special events like happy hour, and an overall high-quality culinary program.

Staffing and the interpersonal side of care are the second major theme and are the source of the largest polarity in reviews. Numerous accounts describe staff as warm, attentive, nurturing, and like family — caregivers who make residents feel at home, run a welcoming admissions experience, and provide compassionate support. Several families specifically call out consistent caregiving and low turnover in their experience. However, an equally large set of reviews report the opposite: staffing shortages, high turnover, unfriendly or hard-to-reach nurses, diminished activities when staff are thin, and inconsistent communication. These staffing problems are tied directly by reviewers to degraded day-to-day care, long wait times for assistance, and reduced activity engagement for residents.

Management, admissions, and business practices emerge as a third prominent theme with repeated concerns. Some reviewers felt the sales process was manipulative or misrepresentative, particularly around transitions to memory care and contract pricing. Multiple accounts mention unexpected cost increases after move-in, and at least one reviewer described an offered waiver that did not resolve the price issue. Other serious complaints include alleged refusal of admission for residents with higher care needs, staff or nursing refusal to assess or communicate with outside physicians, and executive-level unresponsiveness when family members raised urgent concerns. These reports raise red flags about transparency in contracts, clarity about who is eligible for care, and responsiveness to family concerns.

Safety and clinical care quality are another major area of divergence and concern. While some families reported smooth transitions to memory care and strong safety monitoring technology, other reviewers allege very troubling incidents: inattentive staff at critical moments, falls that were poorly handled, and even reports of a death attributed to negligent care. There are also allegations about improper wound care, medication handling problems, and oxygen-management issues. Given the gravity of those claims, they stand out in the reviews as critical items for prospective residents and families to investigate directly with the community and state regulatory bodies.

Activities, social life, and overall resident engagement are generally reported as strengths — with a broad calendar of events, outings, crafts, cooking, music, and holiday celebrations that many families describe as enriching and creating a “cruise-ship” or resort-like lifestyle. Yet several reviewers note a decline in activities and increased TV-watching tied to staffing shortages. Memory care-specific comments are mixed: some reviewers praise the program and smooth transitions, while others report wandering and exit-security concerns and question readiness for residents with higher acuity.

In sum, Modena Cherry Creek appears to offer an impressive physical environment, excellent dining, extensive amenities, and caregiving teams that in many cases deliver compassionate, family-like care. At the same time, a non-trivial subset of reviewers cite systemic concerns — staff shortages and turnover, inconsistent clinical competency, management and admissions problems, billing surprises, and very serious safety incidents. These polarized accounts suggest that experiences may vary significantly depending on timing, unit, and staff assignment.

If you are considering this community, the reviews suggest specific due diligence steps: verify current staffing ratios and turnover statistics, ask for written examples of how the community handles transfers to memory care and contract price-change policies, request documentation of incident/fall rates and state inspection records, observe mealtimes and activities in person, meet nurses on shift and ask about medication protocols, and get clear written agreements on admissions criteria and financial terms. Because the reviews contain both glowing endorsements and severe safety allegations, direct verification of clinical standards, complaint resolution processes, and contract terms will be essential to assess whether Modena Cherry Creek will reliably meet a particular resident’s needs.

    About Modena Cherry Creek

Modena Cherry Creek sits right on the Cherry Creek Trail, close to the Cherry Creek Country Club and the Denver Jewish Day School, and it's a licensed senior living community offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. The building has sunlit rooms with mountain views and lots of natural light, and residents can choose from roomy studios, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom floor plans, all with kitchenettes and kitchen appliances so folks can keep a sense of home. They keep a secured neighborhood environment for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's and have staff trained in memory care, so they know how to keep people safe if they tend to wander or get confused. Memory care includes all-inclusive rent, while assisted living charges rent plus care fees; everyone pays a $3,250 community fee.

Nurses are on site part time, and the staff includes caregivers, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Qualified Medication Administration Personnel, all supported 24/7 by licensed nursing staff. Staff speak English and are trained to help with different care needs like bathing, dressing, managing medicine, and daily living tasks, aiming to support independence when possible. There's help from transportation and shopping services, and they offer wellness programs with fitness and therapy, including yoga, tai chi, and classes in Studio 5280. Rehabilitation, occupational, and physical therapy are available for those who need extra care. The Creekside Club makes for a lively space to grab a drink and listen to the piano, and there's a beauty salon, front range spa services, and barber too-hair and nails or full spa packages if anyone wants a bit of pampering.

Dining happens restaurant-style in cheerful common spaces or the RM Signature Room, where the executive chef and team serve up homemade, local dishes, and guest meals are welcomed. Housekeeping and laundry happen on a schedule, and a concierge helps residents book services or appointments. Outdoor spaces include an elevation terrace with fire pit and Rocky Mountain views, gardens, and spots for morning coffee or evening chats, and indoor spaces support entertainment, wellness, and group activities for socializing or keeping sharp. Staff hosts special events and holiday celebrations, plus regular outings for shopping, crafts, cooking, dancing, and singing. There's daily trash collection, fully cleaned rooms, and regular notifications to families about supplies.

Memory care services are specialized, with high staff-to-resident ratios, structured routines, and programs that ease confusion and focus on safety and fulfillment, using life-enhancing technology and even a Virtual Reality Program that takes folks on dream vacations, home visits, or lets them cheer on favorite teams. Residents get access to a My Account Dashboard for managing day-to-day items and care details, and assistance devices are provided when needed. Modena Cherry Creek works with home health agencies, hospitals, and practitioner search services, and will help connect people to community and veteran resources or health care options like programs under the Affordable Care Act or HRSA-supported health centers. Pets are welcome, devotional services are held on and off site, and guests can visit any time day or night. The goal is always to help seniors live in comfort with support, friendship, and the right balance of care and independence.
