    Excellent community but verify nursing

I live here/placed a loved one here and overall it's a clean, well-maintained, amenity-rich community - chapel, gardens, pool, gym, library, lots of activities, great food (holiday meals, nutritionist oversight), pet-friendly and a true continuum from independent to skilled care with strong rehab services. The day-to-day staff I know are loving, caring and family-like, with excellent infection protocols and many compassionate nurses and support people. My caveat: I've seen/experienced troubling lapses - unanswered switchboard/no returned calls, an understaffed nurse station at times, and slow management follow-up or occasional neglect - so verify nursing responsiveness before committing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with the most consistent praise directed at the staff, the facility’s infection-control practices, dining, and the breadth of amenities and activities. Many reviewers emphasize that staff are caring, dedicated, and personally invested in residents’ well-being — descriptions include frequent visits from staff, nurses who address concerns, and employees who go "above and beyond." The facility is repeatedly called clean, well-maintained, and updated, and reviewers note an organized leadership team and long-tenured personnel who know residents personally.

Infection prevention and pandemic response are highlighted repeatedly. Multiple reviews commend exemplary virus safety management, zero-COVID reports, and daily communication with families during outbreaks. This attention to safety is often paired with praise for strong family communications (newsletters, photos, Zoom updates) and responsiveness at times when in-person visits were restricted; outdoor and window visits were arranged and food service was adapted (meals delivered to rooms during the pandemic).

Dining and nutrition are frequent positives: reviewers point to excellent meals, a broad menu with salad bar options, holiday and special meals, and professional oversight by cooks and a nutritionist. Several comments note that food staff are professional and responsive to dietary needs (examples include diabetic dietary care). The facility’s amenities also receive consistent praise — indoor pool, state-of-the-art exercise room, community gardens, chapel, library, walking paths, group gathering spaces, and a comfortable dining room are all cited. Activity programming appears robust (exercise classes, entertainers, game days, chapel services), contributing to social engagement and reported resident happiness.

The facility’s model and continuum of care also draw positive attention: many reviewers appreciate that residents can move from independent living to assisted living or skilled nursing within the same campus, creating continuity for couples or family members. Rehab-focused care (PT/OT) and transition assistance are noted as effective, with several accounts of faster-than-expected recoveries and good clinical attention. The faith-based environment (Christian organization, on-site chaplain and pastor) and pet-friendly policy (residents keeping cats or other pets) are repeatedly mentioned as meaningful quality-of-life features.

Despite the predominantly positive picture, multiple reviews document important concerns and serious negative experiences that should not be overlooked. Several reviewers report clinical errors and lapses in care that led to ER visits or hospitalizations. There are isolated but grave allegations of neglect, disrespectful treatment, and lack of dignity (examples include residents left in hallways or dining areas, perceived neglect leading to deterioration or premature death, and a resident never moved to a permanent room). A few accounts describe unresponsiveness from management or the switchboard, nurse station understaffing, and no return calls — issues that affected family trust and caused emotional distress. Transportation reliability is flagged as inconsistent for some independent living residents, and some reviewers feel apartment/room sizes are small.

One review describes a traumatic surgical and anesthesia experience with lasting effects; while the context of that incident is not always clearly tied to on-site care at the senior facility, it is included among the submitted summaries and represents an intense negative outlier. Other critiques point to a learning curve associated with new upper-level administration and isolated perceptions of dishonesty or poor follow-through on problems. Taken together, these negative reports are less numerous than the positive comments but are more severe in consequence and therefore important for prospective residents and families to consider.

In conclusion, Good Samaritan Society - Fort Collins Village is characterized by many reviewers as a loving, well-run, and amenity-rich campus with exemplary infection-control practices, excellent food, a strong activity program, and deeply caring staff who provide continuity of care across levels of service. Those strengths create a high degree of family comfort and resident satisfaction in many accounts. However, reviewers should weigh those positives against documented, albeit less frequent, reports of serious care lapses, communication breakdowns, intermittent staffing concerns, and administrative transitions. Prospective residents and families would be well advised to ask specific questions about clinical safety protocols, staffing levels in nursing areas, transportation reliability, and how management addresses complaints and care transitions when evaluating this community.
