    Beautiful facility but unsafe leadership

I was initially impressed - beautiful, sunny mountain facility, spotless rooms with private baths, warm hospitality (Kathy/Cathy), kind nurses and engaging activities that made residents and families feel at home. Over time management failures (dismissive/condescending administration), severe understaffing and poor memory-care oversight caused care lapses, weight loss, infections and terrible communication; CNAs were overworked and many quit. The frontline staff tried hard and were wonderful, but because of safety and leadership concerns I urgently moved my mom and cannot recommend this facility for a loved one.

    Summary review

The review set for Forest Ridge Senior Living is highly polarized: many reviewers describe the facility as beautiful, clean, and welcoming with private rooms and a home-like, mountain setting, while others report serious and ongoing care and management problems. Positive reviews emphasize hospitality, specific staff members by name, and successful care experiences such as effective short-term rehab and perceptible improvement in a memory-care resident. Negative reviews describe operational breakdowns — particularly around administration, staffing, and clinical safety — that have led some families to urgently seek moves for loved ones.

Facilities, setting, and amenities are consistently praised. Multiple commenters highlight private rooms with private bathrooms, bright and sunny spaces, impeccable cleanliness, and an inviting dining/activity area. The campus and mountain location are called beautiful and home-like; the property is repeatedly described as welcoming for family visits and events (birthdays, refreshments like lemonade and warm cookies). Activities and evening events are noted as varied and engaging for residents.

Staffing and direct care comments are mixed but center on two themes: when experienced caregivers are present, care is compassionate and competent; when staffing is thin or recently changed, care suffers. Many reviews single out nurses, CNAs, and caring staff who go above and beyond and create a family-like atmosphere. Several long-tenured employees are mentioned positively, and multiple reviewers named front-desk/hospitality staff (Kathy, Cathy) for exceptional warmth. Conversely, multiple reports allege severe understaffing, high CNA turnover, and CNAs being underpaid and overworked. These workforce problems are linked in the reviews to missed care, rushed shifts, and morale issues.

Clinical safety and management are the most serious concerns raised. Several reviewers allege systemic failures after a change in administration, claiming that quality assurance declined and leadership (including the Director of Nursing) behaved in a condescending or punitive manner. Specific and alarming incidents are reported: residents developing pneumonia, RSV, influenza, or sepsis; significant, unexplained weight loss; residents left unattended without needed oxygen; and delayed or inappropriate treatment for health problems. One review directly states an alleged violation of state law and asserts zero quality assurance by the head nurse. These reports are serious and describe outcomes with clear clinical consequences, not just dissatisfaction.

Communication and value concerns appear repeatedly. Multiple families complained about a lack of timely, clear communication about health declines and clinical issues. Some reviewers explicitly call the pricing overpriced relative to the quality delivered and question the facility’s overall value. Food quality is mentioned negatively in some reviews, though others praise hospitality and nutritious dining events. Memory care receives mixed notes: a few families report dignity and improvement for memory-care residents, while others specifically cite poor memory-care staffing and safety issues.

A notable pattern in the reviews is variability over time and between units or staff cohorts. Several accounts describe an initially excellent experience that deteriorated after a new administrator arrived; others say improvements occurred after early challenges. This inconsistency suggests that resident experience may depend heavily on current leadership, staffing levels, and which specific caregivers are on duty. Consequently, some families strongly recommend against the facility based on severe negative outcomes, while others give top marks and would recommend Forest Ridge.

In summary, Forest Ridge Senior Living shows strong positives in facility quality, cleanliness, hospitality, and the presence of dedicated caregivers who can and do provide excellent, compassionate care. However, there are multiple, serious negative reports focused on administration, chronic understaffing, staff turnover, alleged regulatory and quality-assurance failures, communication breakdowns, and concrete clinical harms experienced by some residents. These mixed reports point to significant variability in resident outcomes. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s appealing physical environment and the presence of praised staff against documented concerns about leadership stability, staffing consistency, clinical safety, and cost. If considering Forest Ridge, ask direct questions about current staffing levels and turnover, recent regulatory inspections or complaints, quality‑assurance processes, how the facility handles clinical declines, and speak with current families and on-site care staff during multiple visits (including evenings and weekends) to gauge consistency.
