    Compassionate staff but inconsistent care

I had mixed experiences. CNA Jessica Riley and rehab staff Theresa and Kate were exceptional - compassionate, helpful, and the in-house dialysis/hospital connection is a real plus; administration did respond when I raised concerns. However I also saw unresponsive, understaffed shifts, long call times, medication errors, ignored dietary needs, dirty rooms, bad smells and general poor maintenance that didn't match the photos. Caring people, but inconsistent and sometimes unacceptable overall care - consider cautiously.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is sharply mixed, with a clear pattern of strong praise for individual caregivers and certain services contrasted with repeated, serious operational and care concerns. Multiple reviewers singled out specific employees (for example, CNA Jessica Riley and rehabilitation staff Theresa and Kate) and described staff as compassionate, dedicated, friendly, and helpful. The facility's rehabilitation services and connection to a hospital and dialysis services were repeatedly mentioned as major positives, providing convenience and continuity of care for residents who need those services. Some reviewers also described portions of the building as remodeled, attractive, and clean, and noted effective leadership and willingness of staff to answer questions and assist families.

At the same time, numerous reviews report troubling systemic issues. Understaffing and high staff turnover are recurring themes, with many accounts of long waits for help, unresponsive staff, and inconsistent care depending on the shift or individual caregiver. Several reviewers described neglectful behaviors, including residents not being fed, signs of dehydration, and a lack of water pitchers at bedside. There are also serious medication concerns: reviewers reported medication errors, missing medications, and at least one allegation that a nurse lied about administering seizure medication. These concerns indicate potential problems with medication management, communication, and oversight.

Facility maintenance and cleanliness drew polarized feedback. While some described remodeled or beautiful areas, others reported below-standard cleanliness, horrible smells, sewer flies, stained washcloths, scuffed walls, and common areas that are not well kept. Specific maintenance hazards were cited, such as a radiator cover falling off and rooms lacking basic items. Multiple reviewers felt the facility did not match its website images, suggesting a discrepancy between marketing and on-the-ground conditions. Dining and dietary safety are other significant concerns: reports of cross-contaminated meals and staff ignoring dietary restrictions or food allergies present real risk for vulnerable residents.

Interpersonal treatment and professionalism also show a split. Many reviews praise caring nurses and dedicated aides, and some families reported positive experiences with staff responsiveness and leadership. Conversely, there are reports of disrespectful treatment—staff addressing residents improperly (e.g., speaking to a family member about a resident rather than to the resident by name) and at least one incident where an aide allegedly grabbed and hurt a resident. These conflicting accounts suggest variability in staff training, culture, or supervision across different times or teams.

Management responses appear mixed: a few reviews note that administration has addressed problems when raised, while others describe poor follow-through, long response times to calls, and ongoing dissatisfaction. The overall pattern is one of inconsistency—clear strengths concentrated in certain employees, rehab services, and hospital/dialysis affiliation, paired with repeated operational failures in staffing, medication management, infection control/cleanliness, dietary adherence, and maintenance.

In summary, the reviews indicate that Fairfield Senior Living & Rehabilitation can deliver excellent interpersonal care and strong rehabilitation services under specific staff members and circumstances, but the facility also exhibits systemic issues that have led to serious family concerns. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility's rehabilitation and hospital/dialysis connections and the presence of highly praised staff against documented risks including understaffing, medication errors, dietary lapses, cleanliness and maintenance problems, and inconsistent management responsiveness. These patterns suggest the facility may perform well when the praised personnel and services are available, but there is a nontrivial risk of lapses in basic care and safety that merit careful inquiry and ongoing monitoring by families and referring clinicians.
