I've lived here almost five years and it has been life-changing. The building is clean and home-like, and the nurses, CNAs, and staff are exceptional-compassionate, knowledgeable, responsive, and treat us like family. Medication management, therapy, great food, and a high staff-to-resident ratio mean attentive, proactive care and real peace of mind. I highly recommend this place - 5 stars.

Care quality and clinical services: Reviewers consistently praise the nursing department and clinical care. Specific strengths mentioned include excellent medication management, proactive monitoring of residents’ conditions, effective therapy that builds strength, and attentive responses to complex needs (one reviewer notes care for a resident paralyzed from the waist down). Several reviewers describe clinically meaningful improvements in residents’ health and wellbeing after transfer to Hickory Creek, and the facility’s surveys and inspection results are described as among the best in the area.

Staff, culture, and relationships: The most prominent theme is the staff culture. Reviewers describe staff as caring, compassionate, responsive, diligent, and friendly. CNAs and nurses are repeatedly called “top-notch,” and multiple summaries note staff treat residents and families “like family.” Long staff tenure and descriptions of coworkers feeling like family reinforce a warm, relational culture. Several reviewers said staff went above and beyond, personally investing in residents’ wellbeing and communicating proactively with families, which provided reassurance and reduced family anxiety.

Facility, environment, and amenities: The facility itself is portrayed as clean, well-run, and pleasantly landscaped. Its small size and “cute” or home-like building design are described as contributing directly to better, more personalized care. The location next to a city park and a peaceful environment are highlighted as positive factors. Dining receives positive mentions — reviewers describe good food and enjoyable dining atmosphere. Volunteer opportunities and a community feel are also noted, supporting social engagement for long-term residents.

Management and organizational strengths: Multiple reviewers call out strong, approachable management and administration. Comments describe management as pleasant to work with and effective, and reviewers attribute the facility’s operational quality and staff morale in part to its leadership. The facility’s ability to support financial transitions (affordability for private pay and assistance with Medicaid transition) is also mentioned as a practical advantage for families.

Patterns of satisfaction and outcomes: There is a clear pattern of long-term residents and families expressing sustained satisfaction — mentions of nearly five years of residency, ongoing volunteering, and deep emotional gratitude indicate that Hickory Creek fosters loyalty. Many reviewers explicitly state that they would highly recommend the facility and credit it with providing peace of mind and life-changing experiences for residents and families.

Notable gaps or concerns: The reviews provided contain virtually no recurring negative feedback about Hickory Creek itself. The only negative condition referenced relates to a prior facility (residents arriving with untreated sores or poor care), which is presented in contrast to the improved quality experienced at Hickory Creek. Based solely on the supplied summaries, there are no significant or repeated complaints about staffing, care, cleanliness, food, or management at Hickory Creek.

Conclusion: In sum, the review summaries paint Hickory Creek at Madison as a small, well-run facility with outstanding clinical care and a compassionate, family-oriented staff. About Hickory Creek at Madison

Hickory Creek at Madison sits at 1945 Cragmont Street in Madison, Indiana, and first opened its doors to the community back in 1975, and since then, residents and families have relied on its nursing home and senior care services, whether it's for short-term rehabilitation after a hospital stay or for longer-term nursing, skilled care, or even hospice support, all provided by a team that brings together physicians, nurses, CNAs, social workers, clergy, volunteers, and therapists who aim for both expert care and a sense of family. The building itself holds 36 certified beds, licensed for both skilled and intermediate care, and gives people options for home-like studio rooms in a space known for being cheerful, secure, and clean, where the staff keeps the atmosphere welcoming so when visitors stop in, they often say they feel at home. While Hickory Creek stays focused on comfort and quality of life, its staffing level stands at about 2.95 nurse hours per resident each day, which is lower than the Indiana state average of 3.7, but the nurse turnover rate of 42.3% comes in below the state average of 48.5%. Management now falls under American Senior Communities LLC, and Hickory Creek at Madison operates as a for-profit corporation with ties to the Hickory Creek Healthcare Foundation.

The care team treats residents as individuals, forming personal connections, listening to preferences, and aiming to meet goals as much as possible, whether someone needs respiratory support, therapy following a stroke, wound or fall prevention, or help managing medical orders. Many families describe the nursing staff, including aides and CNAs, as going above and beyond, looking after residents as they would their own family, and even though there have been four noted deficiencies-two linked to respiratory care and treatment tailored to resident needs-the team works at solving problems and finding peace of mind for residents and families. Residents have access to physical, occupational, and speech therapies, along with programs for aerobic conditioning, movement, and wheelchair use, plus wound and contracture management. The "Road to Recovery" program brings staff and families together for meetings within 72 hours of admission to plan the best approach for rehabilitation or short stays.

Hickory Creek at Madison runs day and night, always open for care, so those needing extended respite stays or senior respite care to give regular caregivers a break, recover, or travel can rely on the team here. Care covers a wide range of needs, from assisted living and skilled nursing up to hospice, and the center keeps experts around for long-term, post-acute, and memory care, building a community where residents are known, valued, and sometimes cared for across several years. Meals in the dining area get good feedback, and the commitment to keeping the place well-maintained shows up daily. With a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and a 9.8 out of 10 average from local reviews-currently the highest in the area-many families and residents find peace of mind, knowing Hickory Creek can offer solutions, skilled care, and emotional support when they need it. Payment includes Medicaid, with specialists available to help navigate options and paperwork.

The facility's focus stays on doing the basics right-compassion, care, and comfort-helping people from different backgrounds, ages, and health levels, no matter if they're there for a short rehab stay, for hospice care, for a longer stretch, or because home isn't safe anymore and they want to feel as much at home and supported as possible during the time they have here.
